Wow its been a long time since I heard that company mentioned! lol, I broke mine back in the late 80's and the hobby shop wouldn't order me one because it was 200.00 back then. he said to just buy a new kit, I eventually bought steel pinions and made the gears I needed.

hello my scottish brother! I'm scottish also! sorry for the delay in answering please forgive me, I did a slipper clutch video in my older vids as far as the latest transmission shifting problem im still working on that, I only have older transmissions that were hard to shift but this latest non 3rd gear engagement is puzzling me, I will have to buy a current kit to see what's going on in the shifting department.

Dennis hope your doing fine. On the HG P407 what size motor and how many turns on motor does the factorymotor come with. I was thinking of swapping in a 540 45T brushed motor. Opinion. Thanks.
the 407 has a 540 27 turn motor, I have used higher turn motors for more low end power on mine you sacrifice higher top end speeds but your not overheating the stock motor any longer.
@@dennisdempseyradiooutofcontrol I have previously stripped it down and greased it, the selector sticks at time's. So I think I will strip it down again and use a fine file on the selectors.
My issue is no thirds gear. 3rd is the lever all the way in. Just the action of the motor moving gears forces the gear out and no forward ,The lenght of the strokw for 3rd gear is less than 4 mm. just move the lever 3mm and the gear is lost. If you press the gear shifter in and hold it there. (like maybe servo no saver!) you get 3rd gear but must hold it 3rd gear can't be this thin?
the stock servo savers are really loose I would check the slop to see if its not extending into 3rd gear, I installed a aluminum servo arm on mine, also you can remove the front transmission housing and check if the front plastic gear is wore down, they make a steel version now.
@@dennisdempseyradiooutofcontrol Complete tear down and rebuild. pack with lube and now I have absolutely no 3rd high gear. Before when I would at least force the shifter into high 3rd holding it all the way. I am buying another gear box tomorrow and keeping this one for a spare parts. I don't get why I have no 3rd. I
I would replace those parts than doing that as if it wears out bad and I won't use it again and it will get worst later also the coupling wire was wrapped around front the electric motor so that won't help much at all just leave it plain wire alone and nothing in there at all so all electric motors don't have those wires like that at all
Hello, so I bought an RTR version, out of the box. It had numerous problems such as defective electronics, which I upgraded immediately. One problem I have not solved yet is what should be 2 Wheel Dr. low is neutral, complete free spin. I have even moved the shift linkage slowly by hand in and out it cannot catch a gear. So before I tear down the transmission, does anybody have a suggestion for what I am looking for? Thank you.
Hi I have had many messages on this problem and have been trying to find a solution but I dont have a defective transmission to tear down to see what is defective, on the shifting shaft there are 2 tiny balls that lock the shifting forks to it, I wonder if they are missing?
Thank you DD, so I tore the whole tranny down checked everything over with the instruction, manual and your resources, found nothing wrong. Nothing was missing nothing was damaged. Greased it up real well still no resolve. So I decided to do your full-time four-wheel-drive mod which it worked, but I still have neutral in the center position. I’m giving up on this transmission for now, my local HobbyTown has a kit for sale and I’m going to buy it and use it as basically a parts kit and see if I have any luck with the transmission out of that one this way, I have a full set of parts, including a brand new body if I ever need it. Thank you for your instruction.
@@KuhlsResearch quality control on these is pretty poor. Mine is no longer stock. I’ve got all high and electronics and took out the three speed transmission and custom fitted the tranny from an element enduro. It may not only be one speed, but it runs great.
Awesome tutorial! I do have a question. It’s not related to the tranny of the HG. I was unscrewing the screws on the wheel and for so reason 1 out of the 3 hex screws has stripped and I can’t get the last hex screw out. So how do I unscrew a very small hex screw when the hex head is kinda rounded and now I can’t loosen the screw? Thanks in advance.
I have had this happen many times lately, try to file the end of the wrench to a flat bottom and angle the wrench into the screw push down hard and twist it loose, If that doesn't work try a standard size allen wrench to see if it fits tighter. the last resort is to drill it out.
I know this has nothing to do with this video and I would ask johhnyq90 too but I didn’t know he didn’t speak English. Anyways have you or anyone you know in the rc community ever thought about making planetary hubs to reduce stress on these engines to increase power?
Thank you ! Did this to smooth the edges and it works like a charm! 👍👍
this is definitely a masters class on the P407 tranny. Amazing..................
Thanks Jim! this video was long overdue lol!
35years ago I sent my original Bruiser tranny back to Model Rectifier Corp in NJ to be rebuilt. Thanks Dx2!
