@Charlee19 Correct. Although, only in the case that the person FULLY believes a false statement without any doubts. A false statement is only a lie when the intent is to deceive, meaning the liar fully knows their statements are false. -- Ignorance and denial is a bit of a gray area, where the person has been made aware of the truth (evidence-based indisputable facts), but are unable or unwilling to accept it. Whether it goes against what they have been indoctrinated to believe (religious, political) or it goes against what their feelings prefer to believe. Believing in a lie might bring one feelings of joy, hope and comfort...whereas considering the hard overwhelming truth could destabilize someone to the point of permanent disability.
Sorry for the TL;DR, lol. Originally I was going to keep this with the first two sentences. It got me thinking for 2-3 hours about how deep the rabbit hole goes.

The question the Judge asked was the most important going forward for this young man..."why did you lie"
I believe his motivation was fear of the consequences of telling the truth, the shame of having been a liar and having to admit it around people that aren't in his circle but mostly because he's been taught that it is his right to manipulate the truth in order to get the result that best suits him.
Society needs to put more emphasis on disecting the cause of the bad behavior and educating as to why that behavior leads to bad things.
Self righteous individuals do damage with thier actions and most often fail to even pause long enough to recognize the damage they've done because, most often they are surrounded by individuals that do the very same, day in and day out.
I was neglected for the first ten years of my life only to end up in a bodycast for injuries I sustained within that first ten years...no accountability, no questions, ...and the convenient lives of others continued...and my life was destroyed.
These kinds of people are rarely held accountable

Here we go again. I have watched this video, finding how deceptive this convict lies when faced with questions about the name he used, when he was stopped by a law enforcement official. It really amazes me how he couldn't answer the question that the prosecuting attorney asked him the name he used when confronted in court, but he sure attempts to answer back at Judge Stevens Jr., when he is speaking. I hope he really brings down the big hammer on this individual.

So, he was walking out to get the mail & got shot, but instead of going back into his grandma's house (which I swear he first said was his mom's house), he went to a neighbor's house?? When questioned about it, he can't remember the street name & says he doesn't live there?? WTAF, dude? He's lucky the judge didn't put him in jail full-time.

The DA does not want the state to have to pay this kids medical bills. That is the only reason he is asking for no jail time. If this kid had no medical issues, the DA would definitely be asking for jail time.

My father taught me very quickly the truth works best.
An attorney friend expanded on it.
His advice, never, ever, lie to your attorney.
If your attorney is embarrased by bring caught in a lie you tell him, he/she is done.
Not to mention any other attorney in the area.
I tried to relay this to my children, only one, my natural son, accepted all his bad choices by telling the truth.

The sad reality is that many people (especially young black men in America) listen to the judge's strong, stern words and come to the conclusion that the sentence being handed down is just as harsh as the judge's tone.
I do hope that this defendant realizes the gift that he was given. Yes, it is bad to spend time in jail. You are being allowed to serve it on weekends. And it's for 30 total days, instead of the 10 years of prison time that could've been ordered.
Looking at these considerations, "the system" really IS looking out for you, even if it doesn't feel like it at the time. We should offer the same consideration in return.

One great thing among many great things about Judge Stevens is - NO, absolutely 0 nonsense will be tolerated. One thing Judge Stevens does that is admirable he will ask the short simple questions that expose fibs, questions one cannot answer with anything but the truth - that is skill and shows that Judge Stevens is indeed involved with the people and cases in front of him which speaks volumes to his devotion, commitment, and the toll this would have to have on his personal life as well.

It's kind of annoying that the judge lectures him, "how can the court monitor you if we don't know where you are?" When he literally has a gps device attached to his body. When the lawyer points that out the judge says, "we can't be tracking him with gps!"
Umm yes you can. That's the freakin point. 🤣
