There are at least two strangler figs native to Australia, and more in other places. Ficus destruens did not come up in my Google search result for my search of strangler fig. The Wikipedia article for Ficus destruens needs more information.
There are many here in Australia. Here In the illawarra area we get Ficus rubiginosa, Ficus macrophylla, Ficus henneana and Ficus obliqua. We are just out of the southern range of Ficus watkinsiana occurring up around newcastle area. Happy fig hunting my friend! My hometown has hundreds of them! So I am used to it; In fact it's how my hometown got its name. Vadodara, India.
Check out the famous Curtain fig, Ficus virens of Queensland.
