    The Clock Man is my favorite character. He offers his services for free after he dies. He didn't have to do that. Nice guy.

    I was surprised steve wasn’t really involved in the show as a kid . He was the biggest threat to the house and he was in the most danger . The house had to throw the biggest baddies at him because he couldn’t be manipulated and was in disbelief most of the time

    Haunting is my current hyperfixation and as someone with childhood trauma I really resonated with him although I disliked that he was the protagonist. This analysis was really interesting and I loved the discussion of him as a child and how it influenced him

      Thank you for watching! I know, Steve is very stubborn and sometimes that makes him really hard to like. But I think being the oldest, he then saw things very differently from his younger siblings making him more jaded. Especially the incident with Olivia smashing the vanity really made it seem like she was completely insane.

      @@hauntedhues oh absolutely, I actually also have mentally ill parents and I reacted essentially the exact same way, by rationalizing everything and promising never go have kids. I dont dislike him as a character I just didnt like that the show book ended with him rather than all the main characters

    • @hauntedhues
      @hauntedhues  3 года назад +12

      @@emcrandal9208 prephaps they ended it with him as symmetry, the first episode opens with Steve’s narration so it also ends with Steve’s closing of the story. Also he is the skeptic who had his eyes open, so he goes on this adventure similar to the audience. He also now has to take his dad's place as the house’s caretaker and a better brother to his siblings. I also love that by the end the family is shown with 7 again with the addition of Kevin, Trish and Leigh. So it kinda ends again with a full family.

    Great video as always!! I also think it’s worthy to note that like his father Steve is the only Crain without any supernatural connection. Even Luke has some link to the supernatural from his “unique shared empathy” with Nell

      It is so sad that Steve always looked up to his dad but grew to hate him. Only at the end did they finally reconcile but there was so much lost time together.
      They are so alike, both men had a period of separation from their spouse only to reconcile and both end up having to become a guardian to Hill House.

      A fan on Reddit pointed out something that could be seen as a supernatural ability Steve possesses: When Olivia was trapped in her visions and her dreams, no one was able to wake her from them until she came out herself. No one, that is, except for Steve. There was a very deliberate scene where Olivia was trapped deep in a reverie, but Steve was able to yank her right out of it almost effortlessly.

    Talking about the glasses, it's interesting that the only people to wear glasses are Steven and Baby Luke, the 2 Crain boys. In the show's context, glasses symbolize clarity and knowledge of the supernatural. Baby Luke with his glasses had a clarity that traumatized him and made him look for ways to destroy it behind the fog of drugs, which is why adult Luke doesn't have glasses. Baby Steven, meanwhile, is ignorant to the paranormal happenings in the house, therefore no glasses. As an adult, he has the means to gain that clarity, but is wilfully ignorant of it, which is why he rarely puts on the glasses. It's like he inherited that clarity from Luke, but neither of them want it so both avoid it in their own way.

      That is a great observation and find! I love how the show ends with Luke celebrating his sobriety almost like a kid celebrating their birthday. Almost like he got to be a kid again surrounded by his family. Steve finally got to be just like him dad and is tasked with looking after Hill House and the remaining Crains.

    Why can Steven go into both the tree house and game room? I don’t think any other sibling does this

    • @hauntedhues
      @hauntedhues  3 месяца назад +1

      @@jasminedragon7360 that's a good point, I am not sure. My guess is that there might not be a "no more than one person" rule for the Red Room. I think the Red Room turns into whatever room a person might want. A personal getaway to lure people into a false sense of calm and serenity. Basically a trap for people the house wants to trap. So it is able to bend reality or people's perception. People never seem to realize they are in the room. So it seems there are ways to enter the room from other places of the house. Maybe Steve just enters the room at the right moment when it allows people in and out. Shirley tries to get in but can't get it open...but later she ends up in the room looking at her albums while not realizing that she was in the room, so maybe it just depends on the house itself. Just my wild guess.

    I wanted to watch the rest of your videos but I am so mad that no one calls what Steven did rape. He raped his wife for years. Having sex under false pretenses is rape. He is not held to account for his behavior. He gets his happy ending and that just ruined the whole story for me. I am ok with bad guys getting a happy ending as long as the media acknowledges they are the bad guy. That is not done here. Steven is allowed to fix it and never really say what he did. His wife for years thought she was a failure that she was broken. You do not get to a fertility doctor without first years of hating yourself as a failure especially the woman. Years of rape and years of hating herself and he cries and she forgives?!?!? Just hated his ending. She was the prize for the "nice" guy to win at the end without the narrative ever truly examining her pain or story. I wish you the best on future videos.

    • @hauntedhues

      At the end? I think once they reconcile, Steve reversed his vasectomy and they finally were able to conceive. There was never an issue with Leigh not being able to get pregnant, the issue was Steve was lying about his vecemtomy the whole time.
