Feeler gauges are another option. For $10 you can get ones that "fan out", and naturally stack. The thicker in the set can double as "twist level" too.

I tried leveling a scope this way on a Warne Skeleton mount once, only to find out that the top surface of the Warne wasn't even close to level.

I’ve heard about that before. When I leveled mine I leveled the action then used a plum bob to level the reticle. That seems like the best way to ensure the reticle is perfect in relation to the action.
By the way, I love your content.

Nnooo!!! I just ordered two warne mounts. Badger, geissele are out of stock everywhere. Got tired of waiting and went with the warne’s. Sounds like I screwed up.

Squaring the scope body or the turrets alone to the rifle does not ensure that the reticle is aligned with the rifle. I have sent two of my scopes back for canted reticles over the years and one of them was a high end Leupold. In both cases the scopes were replaced. I will usually use a similar method to yours initially if the scope design allows it and then use a plumb bob or bright light through the objective to see where the reticle is in relation to the scope mounting. How much a canted reticle effects elevation, windage and tracking and my acceptance level usually depends on how much I paid for the optic. Very few manufactures get the reticles perfectly aligned in all cases with the scope body or turrets.

Automotive feeler gauge bro👌. $5 at harbor freight (assuming your reticle is assembled correctly perpendicular within the optic and rail is machined correct)
    Love the vids!!

I’ve been using the Arisaka Defense leveler for a couple years. Works great as long as the rifle has a pic rail or one piece mount. I wish there was something similar for bolt guns using 2 rings.

Machinist "adjustable parallel" is probably also an option and likely less fiddly than the leveling kit.

I've been using one of these since last year. It's worked exactly as advertised. Very simple and seemingly precise.

Scalar works mounts are pretty dope too! Spendy but worth it!!!

I use parallels from machining and a digital protractor 1. i zero on the Picatinny (i made myself a jig similar to yours) and then under the scope so i am confident all is leveled.... When tightening the screws you can adjust a small tilt. And yes i am german

I have one, I love it. There's nothing simpler for one piece mounts. I've got a parallel set and one of those machinist rulers for setups that don't have the clearance and I got both at Harbor Freight for less than $30 about 5 years ago.

You could also use try the spacer kits we use when working on guitar nuts and action. Those should prove useful for the lower clearance scenarios. :)

The scope needs to be level to the world, not necessarily the rifle. If you routinely shoot with a cant, your scope should cant relative to the rifle so it's level with the world. The issue is is you want your adjustments to track in the right dimension- elevation should be vertical, obviously, and windage horizontal.

Ive seen people use a new set of poker cards. I a leveler like the one your viewer sent you or if that won’t work ill use a flashlight and project the reticle on a wall at a plumb bob.

I'm in a firefight, in the basement. I check my optics and see it's not level...SHIT!
Fear not, I always carry my.............Tough tactical leveler....
Damn that's a stupid name for a tool that adjusts optics. I'm not searching for a scope leveler, I'm looking for a TACTICAL one. Hope it has picatinny, so I can put a laser designator to call in an airstrike.

for a ADM recon qd mount do you need to level the mount to the rifle as well? or just the scope to the mount

    • @Mr.9x19mm
      @Mr.9x19mm 2 года назад +1

I’ve always done it as scope leveled to the mount. Tighten scope screws to spec, then install on rifle.

On some scopes the windage dial gets in the way & needs to be removed when using that tool.
Amazon sells a 4 piece version of the 3 piece.
Sphur sells a similar tool kit for use only on picatinny rail.

Use two bubble levels from wheeler. Match the bubbles and you don't need to level the table. Or... a deck of playing cards.
