Good Evening, whilst I am in agreement with some of the issues raised, I think we are conflating issues - 1st Ladies are not voted in whilst Women Reps are. We should not be discussing the two in the same breath. Women Reps came about because our political landscape has not facilitated women in political decision making. Sidelining over 50% of your population from decision making means their voices are not heard hence the Women Reps. What we should be discussing here is how we can mainstream this so that women have an equal chance in politics at which point Affirmative Action can be done away with. Unfortunately in our situation the Women Reps we put in, do not present women issues, parties have gone for the lowest denominator in the women they put forward. It is clearly because of this that these women did not even raise a hand or a voice when taxes on sanitary products was being introduced. That said it is the same for the men joining politics too....all are looking out for themselves
