  • When a parent goes to prison the child is left behind to mourn the dream of a different life. With more than 2.7 million children living with a parent in prison Dr. Nicole Ausmer wants to create a space for them to heal and grieve the loss of a parent. Children of incarcerated parents have unique social and emotional needs and they are an after thought in society. It is time to make a change. Kupona! Learn more: nicoleausmer.w... I can't believe that there aren't more people talking about this! My father has been in prison for the majority of my life, and it is a unique experience. There absolutely should be more resources for children navigating the big feelings that come along with parental incarceration.

I find it so hard to write my dad in prison and even harder to even open and read letters from him! I feel like the worse daughter in the world! Anyone else feel this way or is it just me?? Much LOVE !

Perhaps your pain could serve others in your future. It's okay to have feelings, you are not a robot.

My dad was locked up for 7 years and he went away when I was like 4? We used to do cassette tapes and letters. It was so awkward how a tape player and piece of paper was "my dad." It's ok if you feel this way, and don't know what to say. We're not supposed to even be put in that situation. Just do what you think is best for you and sometimes there really isn't anything to say. Good luck 🤞
