if you are going to use those large bags consider putting 4 patties and oz absorb in bottom of the bag and seal 1/2 way down the bag, then add 4 more burgers and oz absorb and seal the top of the bag.

Greetings from East Texas! I’d SO love to have a Freeze Dryer. I think….😛. I have a Foodsaver, and Mylar bags for food storage. I’m a new Canner. I am newly Retired after 52 years in Health Care, with just under 40 as an RN.
I’m originally from Ohio. I remember my Grandma canning homemade jelly and jam. I SWEAR…she could make Blue Ribbon Jam out of grass from the front yard 😝.
My Dad was in the Military (Marines during Korea… then switched to the Navy). We left Ohio when I was about 4 1/2, and moved around my entire life.
I was always jealous of my Cousins, because they all stayed in Ohio and grew up there. Funny, but NONE of them ever learned to can or garden. Which is sad!
So I’ve taken up canning to Honor my Grandma and the other Elder Women of my family who are all gone now. Fulfilling a dream I’ve had forever.
Thank you for your great videos. I’m enjoying my Binging…

I don't think we will get a freeze dryer, but just in case I like to watch how it is done. I'm sure it will be so much more convenient to have it in your beautiful pantry than downstairs. I really like how organized you are, but it is still a happy place.
Mary at Mary's Nest puts little keepsake items here and there in her pantry and I thought that was so neat to have those little memories whenever she gets into her pantry.
Do you have keepsakes or items from your mom in your pantry? Maybe an apron or whatever? I like to hear about those kinds of things along with all the useful information.
Thank you and God bless you!

Nicely done. You covered all the steps from start to finish, to include preparing the food to eat. Also, nice pantry setup. I have mine setup in the basement. I converted my light sockets to outlets and installed some LED lights from Harbor Freight; that really brightened things up. One thing you may want to considered when labeling your bags is marking them "Raw" or "Cooked".

    • @melissam450
      @melissam450 2 года назад

You only need one 300c o2 absorber for most bags. For really large bags or 5 gallon bags you’d need more. We’ve never used more than one o2 absorber for any bag offered by harvest right. Their largest is an 11x14, I believe.
You can squeeze out most air before sealing and you will notice the bag sucking into itself over a day or two with the absorber sucking out the o2.

We’ve freeze dried seasoned taco meat, chili, spaghetti with meat sauce, store bought canned chicken, tuna, we did biscuits and gravy, (in separate bags to be mixed at time of consumption) etc. you can freeze dry most things that aren’t made primarily of fat. They can have “some” fat as long as it’s very little and well dispersed. When we fd fatty meats like pork roast we rinse the meat, after cooking, with hot water. It gets the fatty residue off and freeze dried beautifully. Rotisserie chickens.. the list goes on and on. I’m going to make a big batch of beef stroganoff soon and freeze dry it too. I LOVE our freeze dryer.

Just a friendly warning to all looking for Mylar bags. Please be careful when ordering, ESPECIALLY when looking at bags on Amazon. They are NOT the same quality that Harvest Right bags are.
The HR bags are super thick and sturdy. The only thing I don’t like about them is the sharp edges. But I would much rather have HR bags than a cheap “Mylar” bag from who knows where that can be punctured very easily.
Freeze dried foods get very dry and sometimes have pokey edges so you need a very sturdy thick bag to protect the food inside. You don’t want the food you are trying to preserve to be ruined because of a shoddy bag!
Just a suggestion. We have purchased from a couple of places on Amazon and I don’t recommend them for putting “food food” in. We used them for herbs, onions, peppers, sour cream, yogurt, snack type foods. Fruits, etc.
My meals and real foods only go into HR bags.
Just sharing our experiences and disappointments with y’all! Happy freeze drying! 😊

Thank you for that info. I purchase my mylar bags from foodvacbags.com and they are of great quality as well as very affordable. I have been using their bags since 2016 and I love them you can check them out if you choose, there is a link to their website with a 10% off your first order in my description box. Thanks

Could you mix up a meatloaf, freeze dry, rehydrate, and then bake it? By the way, thank you for showing the detail. Most don't and I can never figure out how you use something. I almost have my husband talked into buying one!!
