Today’s video is all about PAD vs PVI (Peripheral Arterial Disease and Peripheral Vascular Insufficiency) for Nursing Students and NCLEX Review.
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and peripheral vascular insufficiency (PVI) are two related conditions that affect the legs.
The arteries in the lower legs become narrowed or blocked, making it difficult for blood to flow through them. This can lead to pain and loss of sensation in a patient’s legs, as well as numbness or tingling in your feet and toes.
As a nurse, you can help manage the symptoms by encouraging lifestyle changes like eating better and exercising more often. There are also other options available such as medications or surgery.

HI simple nursing, I would like to say thank YOU so much! I passed mine at 145! i took it on feb 10, 2023 and my last question was PVD vs AVD questions and I did with my hand to remember the memory trick and even smiled at the camera! I truly believed this saved me from failing at my final question. People don't give up past 75 questions, keep your head up high and make every question count especially the last question!

I told myself I would come back, I relied on this guy during nursing school and I graduated with magna cum laude honors and I cam back for my Nclex, I passed it and this guy's voice was ringing in my ears, I am a visual leaner and his cartoons and acronyms help a ton, I had a lot of questions from his videos, chest tubes, ventilators, cardiac, endocrine disorders, Cushing/Addison, and many more. This is a testimonial, thank you Nurse Mike for being there for us, you are a God sent, I do pray that he blesses you with and your crew.

Nurse Mike and these videos are beyond helpful. In med surge 1, I scrapped by with an 80% and always felt like I still had no idea what we were talking about. In med surge 2, our professor introduced us to these. I have 1 exam and a final left, and have not only been maintain 90s, but more importantly, I actually feel like I understand the topics we have covered. I am also an EMT, and have watched these at the station. My paramedic partner has listened in and said the explanations are top notch, and even things he knows, he felt like he understood even better just listening in to these. Stellar work. Thank you so much!

This was very informative. My mother had a clot which was bypasses just over 4 years ago, 2 years later she was diagnosed with a thinning of the veins and arteries, because of a previous fall and broken foot when waiting for surgery on the left leg she now has a dropped foot since. so she hasn't been able to walk since, She already had a stent in her heart and the other tubes to her heart are all blocked, her veins are so thin the dr;s are afraid of puncturing them. She has her feet elevated as this causes less sharp pains than having them down, When she puts them down to go to the bathroom in her wheelchair her legs and feet go grey and there getting darker, when she has them up normal colour comes back, but the left with the thinning vein/artery(i don't know which) is now always red and swollen. She has thick blue veins on her arms and chest and now spindly one on her legs and down her lower arms. her stomach is now hoarding blood, (this hasn't been explained to us. ) she has shortness of breath as not being able to breath out, this happens more often. When I think it can't get worse, It does, No one will tell us her life expectancy, she is now in her fifth year from the first clot and operation. from what you were saying I think she has both of these.

Just do an ABI (Ankle Brachial Index) this will help with the doctors interpretation. Glad you mentioned that. As an LVN I do these and podiatrists work closely with our vascular team.

Isn't a Duplex ultrasound much more reliable than an ABI? I tested positive for PAD on my ABI but negative in my Duplex results.

I’ve got my first appointment with a cardiologist in a few hours time, I was referred after having an ecg and the results weren’t normal. I’ve suffered with pains in my legs for years and drs have fobbed me off, after doing a little research and watching this video I realise I have the symptoms of PAD the only good thing about it is not having to shave my legs. I have to take pain killers everyday to deal with the pains but my most worrying symptom happened this past winter when my feet were freezing cold all the time and both the toes nails on my big toes are lifting and look like they’re going to fall off, I have shooting pains from this all the time.

a client with peripheral arterial disease is visiting the health clinic. The nurse completes a health assessment. which statement by the client indicates a priority need for follow up teaching?
    A) I always take my simvastatin in the evening
B)I prop my legs up in the recliner and put a heating pad on them when they are cold
C)I've been walking on my treadmill at home everyday for 15 minutes
D)Ive noticed I dont have hair in my legs anymore.
Thank you I have been studying for my NCLEX and even after going over these in class I still get stuck with questions like this. This video helped me answer my question and gain better understanding of both diseases.
the hand gestures to remember PVD (legs up) PAD(legs down) really helps!!!

This was the best med presentation I've ever seen. Your affability and creative teaching technique, coupled with your knowledge and audience relatability make a perfect recipe for effective instruction.
Your teaching style mirrors my very early childhood memories when topics were presented in their most simplistic form, and teachers devised creative pictures, diagrams, and silly acronyms, hand or body parts, (your fingers, lol) that made learning interactive, interesting and fun.
What was most important; not once did my mind wander or lose interest, as usual inevitability of most impersonal and lifeless presenters.
Learning can be fun, effective and interesting, and reawakening and integrating childlike communication style would greatly improve student attention, performance and achievement in any educational genre. WELL DONE!... from a retired medical MSW.
