@KJ RT Thats awesome, so happy we have been able to give you some ideas. Making cards for hospitalised kids is such a lovely idea. They would really appreciate receiving these cards.
I've had my sizzix for a year and I'm still learning about it and all the different types of material that I can use thanks for opening up the possibilities
Thank you. I have been looking at a cheaper machine up the road however after watching all the things you can use I have changed my mind. This one is double the price so will start saving. Thanks again.
It would be very helpful if you updated this video to the common dies and materials people use today. The old steel rule dies would probably cut through a car's fender (lol) but except for some classics, they are not the dies of choice now. Had a Big Shot since forever and it IS a workhorse but a more current test would be "no plastic frame" dies like Thinlets and other thin, detailed dies. Also, the materials to cut now include Yupo, mixed media, watercolor, bristol and many more papers. Would love to see how the new, upgraded Big Shots could handle the today's world materials.
Ok, that does it!.. This goes to the top of my craft room wish list!...lol I especially am interested in cutting quilt shapes, to sew, and uh paper crafting and decoupage.
This video was awesome! I'm not good at thinking outside the box, but this video gave me so many new ideas for my Big Shot. I make cards for Cards for Hospitalized Kids, and I bet they would love a card with a bubble wrap shape they could pop. Great ideas, thanks.
I love this video! I bought Sizzie Big shot 2 weeks ago... can't wait to play with it (not arrived yet) I feel more confidence with it right now. Thank you!
We just bought our Sizzix Big Shot Plus machine and this was a great tutorial (that I will undoubtedly watch again) to help get comfortable with the machine. Thanks and wouldn't it be great to win the big shot machine!!
I got one two days ago as I only had the Hobbycraft machine which wouldn't take Sissix dies as they're too thick. But I'm so disappointed in the Sissix Big shot, their own Sissix dies don't match up to make the relevant sized sandwich. Too thin without their extra shim, too thick with it. I have to use bits of cardboard as shims to get the Sissix dies to go through the rollers. Tattered Lace dies go through the Bigshot without any problems though 🤨
Great video. I am looking at buying a die cut machine and seeing how the big shot handles different materials is very helpful. I love that you included materials beyond the normal crafting ones. Thank you.
A great tutorial. When you used the flock paper I thought about the flock wallpaper I've seen in my large local diy store - I've often gone there for samples for my daughter. We are allowed to take some off the end of an open roll and I get her some that I think she can use in her card making :)
+Lesley Gilbert That's an excellent idea Lesley. Not many houses in Australia have wallpaper its mostly painted walls, but in NZ we always had wallpaper on the walls and I remember having a lovely deep maroon flock paper in the lounge. Your daughter will get a really nice effect on her cards using flock paper.
Nice video. I put so much more through my big shot. I've used magnetic sheets, metal flashing, a sponge, wall paper, sticky sheets, iron on sheets, sand paper sheets, sticky linoleum squares, chip board, contact paper, foil, wax paper, duct tape, . Basically anything that is flat, I've tried to crack it through!!!
Wow...thank you so much. This was so helpful and exactly what was going through my head for a while now. I just bought the machine, (Amazon) and not only did you open up my imagination by all these examples, but you reminded me that all these materials existed! Definitely a video on my permanent list! I Enjoy Watching Your Tutorial The Steel Wool Cuts Through Most Material However I Am Curious How Well With Thin Wafer Dies I Would To Like To See That In Action!!! Enjoy Your Day!!!
i can imagine the two of them talking before they made this video. So, yeah, let's see what we want to try to run through this. What do we have around the house? Yep, plastic bags, cardboard, and how about those tea towels grandma gave us? So much fun to watch this, to see what they were going to cut next! I love my Big Shot, and can't wait to give one to my daughter so she can create stuff, from almost anything! This was a great video! Thanks!
@@alandacraft She has a little daughter who loves to be creative. I've got a lot of those animal dress up dies so I think she can create critters and outfits from anything! I was waiting for you to do felt but you were much more adventurous!

yocampout The sizzix is awesome for cutting out many different types of products. So it is well worth the investment if you use mixed media in your scrapbooking or art journals. We find that the Sizzix and the Brother Scan n Cut compliment each other so it's nice to have both.

I gotta tell you, this is such a practical and wonderful video because the question I always have is what does Sizzix bigshot cut? This answered my question so completely, I'm ready to buy it!!! Thank you so much! Fantastic video!!!
Oh awesome thanks I forgot about office works :) yes I know craft sores in aus don't have much at all I've also been looking for vinyl too and can only find it on eBay arh wish we had all the kool stuff like the US and it's cheaper there too
Thank you :-) your video is amazing :-). I wanted to wait to get a good mothers day special for myself and a craft store here in Australia had these going out on sale for 48 hours only and you saved $69. So i went and got it for myslef. (i have a smaller one thats way to small to do much with) But then i really have no clue to what it could cut. i just thought paper. Until i seen this video. Now i can't really wait to get it :-)
It's a great thing to have Pamela. You can do so much with it. We got lucky and picked up a heap of the dies for under $5 each at a craft fair. Lot's of fun to be had.
Hi, this was very helpful but I'm wondering how thin of paper can I cut. I wanted a product that can cut through probably like tissue paper thin or thin paper. Can you demo on very thinner paper like Joss paper?
Thank you! I do have a question, on the ones it had problems with would rolling it through again help? Also do you have any tests on how many layers of fabric it can cut at one time? Thanks again for your time and work.
Yes definitely. Rolling it through again can help. We haven't tested for layers of fabric although I know that you can cut through 8 layers of cotton quilting fabric.
Thanks for such an informative video! I wonder if dies like thinlits/ framelits can cut through foams and felts. Have you by any chance tried them before?
michioua08 So sorry for not responding sooner. We haven't cut foam or felt with framelits or thinlits before so decided to test it out and thought we may as well record it at the same time. So here is the result: ruclips.net/video/UP5OgK0sMNE/видео.html
Alanda Craft Hi, Alanda. Thanks for responding to my question. I have limited dies to experiment with myself and this video really helps in my purchase decisions. Love your videos!
I haven't tried it myself Mary. But I did a bit of research and it looks like it will cut both those products. Some people mentioned that you would need to do a few passes to cut chip board and you may have to finish cutting the design with a craft knife. But as I say I haven't tried it myself so I can't in all honesty say if it will work or not.
Yes Helen, you can cut adhesive vinyl but you won't get the kiss cut that you get with the Brother DX. It just means you may need to fiddle with the pieces to remove the backing.
That was a great video. It is helpful to know what something can do before you spend the money on it. I was going to say you should change the description because you put, "Amazon Associates." I think you meant affiliates. Not a big deal, but some people may think they are helping amazon, instead of helping two wonderful crafters. And I know you made this a while ago, but people are still watching it. One of the links you guys put for the Big Shot only has one crazy seller left trying to get people to pay over $300 for the $75 machine. If you ever do another one, could you PLEASE cut chipboard? That is why I am looking at die-cutting machines. The chipboard embellishment prices are killing me.
Thank you for your feedback, Grace. Although Amazon call their affiliates 'Associates', I agree with you that more people are aware of the term affiliate so I have changed the terminology in the description. I have also found a more reasonably priced teal Sizzix.

I seem to remember we purchased the cork from an op shop (goodwill) and it didn't have any packaging to indicate the thickness. But I know that Silhouette sell cork sheets for their machine and I am sure they would work for the Sizzix. They are adhesive backed as well. You can take a look here - www.silhouetteaustralia.com.au/products/silhouette-cork-sheets
Shir Avital Apparently it can, although we haven't tried it yet. I would think that it couldn't be too thick but from what I can tell from a quick search on the net, a lot of people have had success cutting chipboard.
Do you mean the Sizzix Vintaj machine? If yes, then I couldn't really say if it will cut the same without testing it myself but they look very similar so I would think they would cut the same.
The sizzix can cut through 8 layers of fabric so it may work. But I haven't tried to cut glitter faux leather so I really can't guarantee that it will.
Hey there thanks for your videos :) just wondering where do u get the paper flock from? I want to do rhinestone templates and cut them with my scan n cut but I'm finding aussie craft sores hopeless as they never sell any thing I would like to use so I have to use eBay
Emma Brache I know what you mean about the Aussie craft stores. We don't have as much to choose from, but you should be able to get the flock paper here. We bought it from Officeworks. Here is the link: www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/s-l-flock-paper-s-a-we-bk-2pk-sl61003
Amazon or ebay would be a good place to start looking for template plastic for the sizzix. This is where we buy template plastic for the scanncut www.alandacraft.com/2014/12/06/how-to-create-stencils-using-stencil-plastic-with-your-brother-scan-n-cut/
Hi Alanda so the dies are the shapes? Then I m wondering do you have swirls etc, or where do I get them hope this explains better I’m looking for different shapes to put on a show shirt Thanks
Hi Cheryl, Sizzix have lots of swirls dies to choose from. Here is a link to their website. www.sizzix.com. We personally don't stock dies or machines.
I would like to know the sandwich for cutting BLING MESH using wafer dies on the CUDDLEBUG if anyone knows it would be appreciated.... I did it before but have forgotten. Tia
Is it more about what the die will cut because I think The Big Shot will attempt to cut anything of a certain thickness? What did you find that it would not cut, if anything? Thanks for your video.
Melissa Edwards I think it was more how well it cut certain items. So in the video, you can see that not everything cut perfectly - some things worked better than others even thought it cut through everything we tried. We haven't actually tried anything else other than what is in this video except for leather and that cut perfectly.
+Alanda Craft Thanks Alanda. I didn't even understand just what die cutting was until I watched the video. Thanks for getting back to me. Can you use these machines for applique cutouts?
Ok, call me shallow because I don’t see where anyone else asked... did your machine come that way or did you embellish yourself? I’ve no seen one like it with little flowers etc- if you did it can you explain how?
It came that way. I'm not sure if they are still selling this particularly version. Sizzix seem to change them up quite often. Their latest version is all quite plain.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by appliques in this context. The shapes that you can cut are called dies and you can purchase these online by searching for Sizzix dies or many craft stores sell them.
We haven't tried them with the framelits and thinlits as at the time we didn't have any. However, we now have some and will do another video in the future.
Probably, but it's really difficult for us to give a definite yes or no without actually trying it ourselves. Might be worth contacting Sizzix directly just to be sure.
Lorina Kwatra We used that particular die in the video because it contained a number of different shapes both big and small. So we thought it would provide a good idea of how well the Sizzix could actually cut. Each die could potentially be different depending on the intricacy of the design.
I did not see a reply to MPaulHolmes question concerning copper. I purchased my Sizzix Big Shot specifically for metal projects. Therefore, I too am curious; what is the thickest gauge of metal the Big Shot will cut? Many Thanks!Urban Muse, LLC
Hi Teri, we haven't personally tried to cut metal on our Sizzix, so I am not in a position to assist you. I would suggest that you contact Sizzix directly. I have read that the rule of thumb is that if you can cut the metal with craft and paper scissors, it will cut on the Sizzix. But as I say we haven't tried it.
+Lera Burshtein I was just going to ask that myself! This deserves more thumbs up! =) (And if you don't want to watch the video, spoiler alert, the answer is yes.)
This might be an old video but it is priceless. Thank you for sharing.

Tia
Impressive!!!!😱
Is it more about what the die will cut because I think The Big Shot will attempt to cut anything of a certain thickness? What did you find that it would not cut, if anything? Thanks for your video.
Melissa Edwards I think it was more how well it cut certain items. So in the video, you can see that not everything cut perfectly - some things worked better than others even thought it cut through everything we tried. We haven't actually tried anything else other than what is in this video except for leather and that cut perfectly.
I wish someone would do one on fleece
I'm looking to see if it can do plywood sheets
I'm not sure it will handle plywood but contact the company at sizzix.com they should be able to help you.
Thankyou so much for your help
Thanks for sharing!
Hi I'm completely new to this. Where do you get the various shapes and can you create your own? Great video. It has me intrigues.
+Mary Rushe The shapes are called dies and you can buy these online or in many craft and sewing stores. Unfortunately, you can't make your own.
+Alanda Craft Thanks Alanda. I didn't even understand just what die cutting was until I watched the video. Thanks for getting back to me. Can you use these machines for applique cutouts?
+Mary Rushe Yes definitely Mary.
It looks to me that a user will need to have one for paper and another one for fabrics only of the dies.
Alanda Craft I first saw your video late in the night. I saw later today that they once came this way, it’s so pretty!
may i ask what is the thickness of the cork that was cut using the big shot? I'm planning to make personalized coasters using it :)
mrj14ann The cork we used is 2mm thick. Personalized coasters are a great idea.
Where do you get the appliqués
I'm not quite sure what you mean by appliques in this context. The shapes that you can cut are called dies and you can purchase these online by searching for Sizzix dies or many craft stores sell them.
Can I cut through all these materials with framelits and thinlits??
We haven't tried them with the framelits and thinlits as at the time we didn't have any. However, we now have some and will do another video in the future.
I really enjoyed your video. I work with light weight leather. Will this machine cut through a thin lambskin leather?
Probably, but it's really difficult for us to give a definite yes or no without actually trying it ourselves. Might be worth contacting Sizzix directly just to be sure.
Amazing
Can you cut plastic sheets?
Yes you can. It will depend on the thickness of course but you can definitely cut plastic with this.
Why can't they make these machines for memory foam? I need one to do my own packaging inserts and the big ones cost thousands
How does this machine cut without metal dies? I don't understand.
We have used a metal die in this video. It is the butterfly die. The Sizzix needs a metal die or a thinlit to cut.
What about cutting with other dies?
Lorina Kwatra We used that particular die in the video because it contained a number of different shapes both big and small. So we thought it would provide a good idea of how well the Sizzix could actually cut. Each die could potentially be different depending on the intricacy of the design.
Yes that was a very nice tutorial but I am in an able to cut soft material with thin dies on big shot , is there a tutorial on this?
Can this cut yarn for latch hooking
I wouldn't think so Rue. It is designed to cut fabric using dies.
Can I cut a magnetic sheet?
We haven't used the Sizzix to cut out a magnetic sheet Deanne. If you try it can you please let us know how it goes.
Where can you order these dies
It depends where you live Dana. Just google sizzix dies and that should return the results for your country.
What about cutting leather?
Lera Burshtein Hi Lera! We've created a quick video demonstrating the Sizzix cutting leather. You can take a look at it here: @y_xH489iwWA
Thanks a lot.
Sorry, it doesn't seem to be a valid link.
Lera Burshtein Try this one - ruclips.net/video/y_xH489iwWA/видео.html
+Lera Burshtein I was just going to ask that myself! This deserves more thumbs up! =) (And if you don't want to watch the video, spoiler alert, the answer is yes.)
can I use magnet sheet in my device
We haven't tried to cut magnet sheets Tara. I suggest you contact Sizzix direct, here is a link to their support www.sizzix.com/contact
