And thus begins one of the best fights in anime history. You said it best, it was a battle of ideals...of one person no less. To his core, Archer was still Emiya Shirou. Its not his own suffering he resented but the suffering he caused others that drove him to despair. Even after betrayal after betrayal, he was still Shirou. The most tragic character.

16:21 As someone who read F/SN first, I really didn't care about Kerry or Kirei till I watch Zero. I thought Kirei was just a typical cliche villan, and Kerry was just some boring dead guy in background who kept break my immersion in the whole story. I was actually more hooked with UBW and HF after Zero, almost wishing if I could erase my memory and watch Zero first. That's my main reason why I recommend Zero first to people. It's also chronological.

Kirei is a typical cliche villain? That's objectively wrong if u actually did read fsn, unless u talking about the anime but then again u said read not watch

@@yosefalamo6431Dude, I read it by the time HA came out. I highly doubt there was English version of it since Realta Nua didn't even exist then, so you don't get to be 'I'm right and you're wrong' kind of guy. I freaking hated Kirei's exposition and his boring dialogue before I dig into his character in Zero, alright?

The animation adaptation is okay, but a lot of wonderful lines have been omitted.
There are many thought-provoking things in his monologue.
    in fate/stay night visual novel
Archer: Saber. You should have experienced the same thing many times already. You cannot save everyone.
I assume it was a daily routine for you to sacrifice a few people to save the country.
Yes, the seats are limited. There are always fewer seats called happiness than there are people to fill them.
Since you cannot save everyone, someone will have to be sacrificed.
A superhero should save many people, right? That's why I killed. I prayed for no one to die, but I killed one to save many.
See. Don't you think such a guy should die?
Seriously, many heroes in history have killed many people, some without any meaning, but I don't see any problem with them feeling regret. Is it because Archer is a modern person that he has such serious psychological problems?

And this is only 30% of what you can read in the visual novel; UFOTABLE cut so many details!

Just want to add context to how bad being a Counter Guardian would be for someone like Shirou, who wants to help people. So let’s say there’s a guy living in a country, and that one guy (again, it’s ONLY that guy) is trying to destroy humanity. The Counter Force, rather than killing just that guy, would wipe that ENTIRE COUNTRY off of the map. Emiya made a deal with the Counter Force cuz he wanted to save people, and thought that, as a Counter Guardian, he would still continue saving people. Instead, he was turned from a hero into a butcher

You know what's ironic? A previous Matou put his hands on a Tohsaka and choked her while having feelings for her. The same happened here.

The scene at the beginning was archer accepting a pact with the counter force for power (he was trying to stop a nuclear reactor from exploding) he would continue to live longer after that, but that sold his afterlife

Kiritsugu have a chance to find happiness because he stop doing what he did.
Archer sold his after life to guardian meaning even after he dies he will forever stuck there.

For some reason, the writer of Zero adapt Lancer ending himself from original, and now it's such a well-known meme xD

If i recall, Alexander said that Saber shoudlnt regret her choice to be king and thats why he wanted to wake her up because she was just living in suffering of her own making. He said they shoudl not regret thier path that brought them here that it shoudl be their pride as a King. So Saber wanting to undo everything went aginst his views. I do mostly agree with Alexander though, they have lived thier lives and exist in history and them being here as Heroes means they lived up to their roles. Wanting to undo that is like spitting on the world its self. Its very Arrogant.

I can try to vaguely answer the question about the grail vessels. I can't remember what details are explained in Zero and UBW vs what details are explained in the visual novel or the Heavens Feel movies so I don't want to spoil anything. Using a human sacrifice to catalyze the grail is a valid option, but the grail won't accept a heroic spirit like Saber as a vessel.
I don't remember if the Tohsaka bloodline makes her more compatible than a random human, maybe somebody else could chime in on that, but the "Grail system" has connections to the Tohsaka, Matou, and Einzbern families. Illya would be valid even as a homunculus (and she was created with magical circuits "shaped" or designed for this), Rin is also a valid choice for a vessel. I honestly don't remember if there's more lore around it, but a Servant can NOT be a vessel, a human CAN be a vessel.
As for Lancer... you'll see a lot more of him if you keep watching the Fate franchise; the "5th grail war" is the setting for the original visual novel, so the characters in UBW are iconic. Other Fate spinoffs might include fan favorites like Cu Chulainn, Shirou, Illya etc. WHICH spinoffs? I won't say. But I think there's over 300 entries in the Fate franchise at this point, you have many possibilities to see familiar characters in different stories. Hell, there's a whole Fate show dedicated to cooking, and it's wonderful.

There is no spoilerless order to watch the Fate series. Every series spoils the others.
At the end of the day its about what you personally care about in the story that will give you your best route.
Many watched Zero first and loved Kiritsugu's story, those would be best watching UBW next to continue that story arc.
Also if you liked Kirei and Gil you would want to go UBW also, though Deen also has more.
If you liked Waver you could continue to "Lord El-Melloi II" to get his perspective on the past 10 years to now (its story takes place during this war).
If you liked Saber in Zero you would want to watch the Deen Adaption then though it is still a messy adaption.
And if you liked Kariya and the Matou stuff then you could goto Heavens Feel though youde prob want Deen first.
And thats just if you watched Zero first.
If you watched Deen first you would know who Saber is from there, you would also know about Kirei and Gil working together which spoils Zero since you knwo whose alive and whose not after that war.
Watching UBW first spoils a lot of Zero stuff, Kiritsugu's development would be flat since you know whats coming, youde also know who won the war and that Tokoyomi was betrayed.
So yeah there is no ideal way to watch the series, it just matters what you care about to help you find your own path.
And i know people will say "well the novel came out first so you should do novel order!" and sure i understand that opinion as someone who played the visual novel first before the anime cam out. But Zero changed everything. Zero came out years later and was an even better starting point for the story than the novels had. In the novel order your basically bumbleing around story wise and there is eventusally stuff to care about but its mostly a blind man grasping at straws of story. Zero gives us a very good solid starting point and sets up the world and events in a very nice way. So i am of the strong opinion that because Zero is so well done, it makes the best starting point for the story. Even the author of Fate likes Zero and says Gen Urobuchi wrote a scenario he could never dream of and gives good support to the characters he created. He particularly likes Rider saying he could have never made an equal for Gilgamesh like him.

You are under a misconception that archer is.a heroic spirit he's not he's a counter guardian he's not even meant to be here on this war but they had omthenitem from his legend that why he had memory problems but the point is this is not about acepting the future this is about consequences and when playa wants a person they will have it.. archer is just one version the most " good "

Archer *is* a Heroic Spirit. Counter Guardians are simply a subclass of Heroic Spirits. The only difference between the two is those who become Counter Guardians made a pact or deal with the world during life and became a Heroic Spirit after death as a consequence, with their souls being sent to the Throne of Heroes.
In other words, Counter Guardians are just Heroic Spirits who weren't worshipped in life or had a legend.

You watched in the best order, you should watch the three Heaven's Feel movies next, then you can watch the Studio Deen Fate route if you want, but keep in mind it's kind of a mess, it mixes the three routes a little bit (which is why you watch it last, so you spoil the other two routes that are better adapted as little as you can). Afterwards, you can watch Fate Apocrypha, some cool servants there...and theres more still to watch, but that would be far in the future for you so...great reaction guys. And I'm glad you have appreciation for Lancer Cú Chulainn, best bro in Fate.
