PS Wet track race... they should have shot this on a different day and deleted the footage they used in the beginning. Not only for a better video showing realistic results but for their own safety. Why don't you try filming a drag race yourself and see how complicated it is to organise, film, edit and produce.

The old FSI would lose to a McLaren, but not the newer R8, I agree, the drivers were shit and the weather but explain how a Naturally Aspirated V10 with AWD would lose against a Twin Turbo V8 with RWD, R8 is lighter too
Dillon Davis because it has a much stronger area under the curve and nowhere near as light as the Mac. The Mac would need to have an absolutely abysmal launch to not make up its time in the stretch down the track.
Apart from these terrible drivers, just about every McLaren launch is abysmal, don’t get me wrong, I love McLaren, I even used to dream of a 12c, but they suck at traction, unless you got like some sport cup 2’s and an easy start, you ain’t goin nowhere but sideways
This channel really deserves to be bigger, the quality is very good, fair races and no faking races, honest good quality channel overall, one advice I think you should also do some rolling races just because it's cool to know.

On the other hand, most guys don't drag race in the rain, let alone drive their precious supercars in the rain... LOL (myself included btw). Hi David. I already did a road review of the 600LT so I thought it would be good to do some drag racing as a follow up. Hiring a track costs way too much money for me. Maybe if the channel grows that will be an option in the future.
@@subes5873 wrong. Maybe you drove the regular V10, the V10 plus has 610hp and 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. Same engine as in the Huracan and tuned slightly different. The R8 is meant to be more of a daily drivable supercar. There isnt much that can take it off the line thx to quattro.
Ahhh didn't know about the plus/ not paying attention. I do recall the rental place saying it had about 550hp so I guess the non plus yeah. I'd have to say I would buy an R8 if they were a little cheaper, it handled incredibly, and the sounds were insane. Of the cars I rented R8 V10 MP4 12c, huracan LP610, grr black. Handling R8 Straight line acceleration 12C All around performance LP610 drew the most attention Pure kill myself if ownedit GTR, drove it like playing GTA ! Currently have a 2011 M3 frozen black edition with snitzer upgrades ( couldn't afford more)
Nice video, i love it when the conditions are real, just like in real life if you met on the street. For all of those that cry it was rainy well guess what it was just damp not raining and as far as I know in real life it rains also. You know it's funny to me when I meet on the street those fast BMW M cars passing me by on the sunny day but when the road is damp or rainy my audi quattro with half of theirs HP and third of the price smokes them all day long. You just put a smile on my face.
I realize the rain caught you guys out, still a great video though. Maybe at some point a "round 2" video in the dry to show the difference that the weather conditions made to the performance of these exotics.
I'm about 3 years late to the video but looking at 600LT's and found this. Cracking up at the comments honestly. People actually complaining about it "not being fair" "setting up the 600LT for failure" as if there's anything really at stake here. It's video comparing cars, and it exemplifies perfectly the strengths and weaknesses of each car. The R8 is super heavy (compared) but AWD, so in the rain, it kicks butt. In the dry, it would be a totally different outcome. What's wrong with that!?
Please find another driver that knows what he's doing for the McLaren. The McLaren was definitely suppose to have won for sure. The driver was causing it to struggle for traction on launch
I would buy the McLaren 600LT as this is the ultimative Track Car... I don't care about drag racing otherwise I get a TopFuel Racer. Handling is worth more then just straight line acceleration

It's funny the only time the 488 wins all the Ferrari fangirls come out talking trash, first of all, the conditions were terrible second, the tires that the 600LT had were track focused so good luck finding grip with those on a wet surface and no offense to the owner but he looks like a noob at drag racing. Just remember buddy the 570S is faster than a 488 which means the 600LT even more faster. And before you say, no, I'm not a McLaren fanboy just stating facts like it or not.
You can see that Ferrari's software limits torque in the lower gears. They do that so it would feel more liniar and more like a NA engine would. I think it's only in 4th that it has all the torque available and it shows. I have no clue if it does so even when you use launch control. Even so, it was launched remarkably well co considering the weather. The R8 is such a well engineered modern classic! Nice one, thanks!
@@projectr2451 you are absolutely right. I know that it alowes full yorque in the 7th. At least that is what they say. But i have seen them race and there was an unexplainable difference from 3rd to 4th in the way it pulls. I definitely thin1, 2, 3 is more or less the same torque and from 4th you get an increase and max in 7th. I would bet that if you dyno the 488 ot would show it.

The R8 V10 + have a big advantage from a dig due to the 4wd and it will do 100-200 km/h in 6.2 sec' best time , where both the 488gtb and the LT600 will do 100-200 km/h in the hight 5 sec' , these are Vbox aproved results .

A film shoot takes weeks to organise, and a lot of the time you hope you'll have good weather. On the day we filmed there was good weather until the moment the flag went down for the first race. We had already paid for the runway, had 6 cars on location, two cameramen, one photographer and decided to go ahead regardless.

No, Ferrari limits torque in all gears apart from gear 7. It only gets the full torque in gear 7.

But i have seen them race and there was an unexplainable difference from 3rd to 4th in the way it pulls. I definitely thin1, 2, 3 is more or less the same torque and from 4th you get an increase and max in 7th. I would bet that if you dyno the 488 ot would show it.

Yeah there’s probably an increase in some gears as they get higher till the full amount is unleashed in gear 7.

I already know the 600lt is gonna win. In I believe greatest drag race 5 or 6, the 570s and the v10+ was too close for comfort

A.W.D. vs. Full mechanical LSD vs. open differential. When it rains you see a mechanical LCD 'actually' work and earn the extra weight it adds to the car which Mclaren isn't willing to compromise on...

I’m pretty sure after owning a 488 and driving a 600LT that the Mclaren is faster. Bad conditions, no launch and perhaps a less than adequate driver.

Where is the rolling race you mentioned ?!? Both the LT600 and the 488gtb will beat youre R8 plus .
It started raining during the first race. We didn't have time to do rolling races. I hope that answers your question.

The R8 V10 + have a big advantage from a dig due to the 4wd and it will do 100-200 km/h in 6.2 sec' best time , where both the 488gtb and the LT600 will do 100-200 km/h in the hight 5 sec' , these are Vbox aproved results .
Ss Q yeah I was agreeing with your comment but meant that the higher torque from turbo helps them in a rolling race. However for me high revving naturally aspirated engine is preferable

Why not wait for a dry day?
A film shoot takes weeks to organise, and a lot of the time you hope you'll have good weather. On the day we filmed there was good weather until the moment the flag went down for the first race. We had already paid for the runway, had 6 cars on location, two cameramen, one photographer and decided to go ahead regardless.
Put the supercharged R8 thats on youtube against the Mclaren or hit Hennessy up for the r8 with twin turbos. That would be interesting to see.
If somebody asks me for a race on an airstrip , rainy weather or not here I come
