Fifteen years, man times flies. I remember watching your videos as a kid and getting my first four hole sweet potato; then meeting you at conventions and buying my first twelve hole. Keep up the good work, here's to another fifteen!
7:40 Possibly two ways to take that. 1) he doesn't force an ocarina to go along each processing step on a set, arbitrary schedule. He instead checks how ready the clay is and takes special care to incorporate this understanding into the ocarina-making process. In other words, he moves a given ocarina along as it is ready (for pressing, sculpting, drying, firing, filing, etc)--no two will move along at the same pace, or have the same tuning needs. 2) when he approaches a finished ocarina (that he made) to play it, he takes into consideration the properties of that particular ocarina; instead of trying to make the ocarina play to the way he wants, he alters his playing style to accommodate the "personality" of that ocarina and let it shine in its own way. 8:30 Also, depending on the Japanese used, the word "plow" could also be though of as "tilled / cultivated" or "turning the soil / furrowing", as a poetic sense of working the air into song and yet piercing it with echoing resonance.
when my dad was in the army, he got an ocarina made from bakelite. He would play it sometimes and after he passed away, I took it home. Glad that you are still here on YT
im really glad that seller had their own quaint travel story around that piece. if it had been an estate sell on the part of a deceased family member its path through the world would have been forever shrouded in mystery.
It reminds me of my trip to Saudi Arabia where I bought a brand-new genuine Japanese 20th Anniversary Game Boy Micro for just 15 bucks in a bazaar sale a decade back. I too couldn't believe what I heard, so of course I struck. These things can go for hundreds of dollars in used conditions nowadays. Opportunities always present themselves where you expect them the least to happen, I'm happy for you that you could buy this ocarina for a steal!
Wow. Just wow. I think my favorite part of its sound is that is has a phenomenal slight airy quality. Where a lot of ocarinas have it as almost a negative part of the tone, it really embraces it. Thanks for playing it for us all! Just wow.
bruh it's been an honour to have been one of your subscribers for 15 years! i been following you since i was in college and to this date you playing the song of storms when it was literally raining will always be my most favourite video of all time! you are literally the first person i subscribed to when i opened my RUclips account! so thank you for all your all content that I've enjoyed much over the years! i even brought two ocarinas myself but sadly never mastered them as I have the attention span of a peanut! 🤣
"Among the pipes he made, there are quite a few that only Sojiro could recognize. Some of them can be played only by Sojiro. The reason for this is that he reaches towards each pipe, not on his pace, but thinking of the condition of the clay's pace." --> Sojiro doesn't make ocarinas. He thinks about the clay and makes it pace. In other facts, Sojiro sleeps... once every three years. Pretty sure he must have counted to infinity two or three times too :D
You sounded exactly like him...👏👏👏☺️it's beautiful and surely deserved that YOU have an ocarina from Mr. Yoshiro. Fate had to unite you with this ocarina for nothing more than your love for that instrument
I am Japanese and my mother and brother loved Ocarina and Sojiro🌸❤️ Yellow River and Miyazaki are beautiful too. I am so glad you have a real thing now😊 I am looking forward to listening to you!! Enjoy!!🎵🎶🎵❤️❤️❤️
Sounds absolutely perfect. I was genuinely stunned when you started playing. Really a mix of sound colours from a variety of other wind instruments, reminiscent of Native American and Baroque European flutes, with a bit of typical ocarina "clink". Hope we get access to instruments of this sound quality at a reasonable price and availability at some point.
U are my childhood, my friend. I've been with you almost since your started. Im 18 now, and you made my childhood the best. Since i was little that i wanted an ocarina, and i dream of getting one someday. Hope you're good, have fun!
Anyone know of any ocarina manufacturers or suppliers that make one that sounds even close to this? That tone is absolutely magical. I love my night by noble but, that sound is at a totally other level
Great Video David ! We all was wanted for this theme for so long. I know exactly how exiting is this theme and Ocarina. I have a request for a video, Talk about a Healing Ocarina from Matsumoto Toshikazu. Is a very similar to Sojiro´s Ocarina and come from the same period of Time.
Just seeing the thumbnail reminds me of the time I spent searching the forums, and wherever I could, for the songbird silver pendant ocarina. I was offering over $2,000 and nobody even gave me a lead. Crazy.
@@DavidErickRamos she's on Etsy now? I donated to the kickstarter back in the day. They're very nice, but unfortunately its more about that specific ocarina.
I suspect I'd sound like a hot mess trying to play that with the wind way as big as it is. I just don't have the experience to take advantage of that, but you seem to. Kind of allows pitch bending without having to over or underblow, just change the angle slightly.
those that have the other 9989 Sojiro Ocarinas, and you are not really playing them or able to play them well, please put them on the market, or give them to people like David here :)
I’m so glad this ocarina found its way to someone who can share its beautiful sound with lots of people

Sounds nice I like that it doesn’t sound TOO “Earthy” like a lot of ocarinas, its pretty smooth

Thanks for making a video about this gentleman and his ocarinas. I had absolutely no idea about the history behind it until now.
im really glad that seller had their own quaint travel story around that piece. if it had been an estate sell on the part of a deceased family member its path through the world would have been forever shrouded in mystery.
My thoughts exactly, it made it all the more special.

It not only sounds beautiful, it looks beautiful as well. It found a fantastic owner.

It was so cool seeing your Sojiro and talking about it over the patron Zoom! Thank you for making a full video! So cool! 😊👍

I'm so excited for this series and the future museum!

Wow! Such a beautiful sound, congrats on the amazing find!!!
_Ocarina plows the air._
My confusion is immesurable and my brain is hurting.
It sounds magnificently !
As always, thank you for your informative and inspiring videos. As a developing oc player, I’m grateful to have someone to aspire to.
I've been watching you for a very very long time, I still get excited when I see you upload!
What an amazing find
I ordered my own Ocarina today thanks to you, can't wait to try it out! Thanks so much!
That console collection is pretty rad too.
I'm so happy that you still making videos Doc o, v ,o
What an amazing bargain! Thanks for sharing that bit of history; makes me appreciate my ocarinas all the more! 😄🎶💗
What a steal! Congrats on a piece of history. I kind of feel the same way about my Hinds, especially the Grenadilla Alto C, but this takes the cake.
I loved everything about this. Thank you for sharing!!
holy cow you were right it sounds so pretty!!
simply gorgeous

If you’re mainly interested in that material, ocarinacaro on Etsy specializes in silver ocarinas!

One day you are going to be as famous as him
Damn that sounds good
WoW
The sound is like it being by a lake in a forest. And you are away off
Only way I can explain the Wonderful sound.
I swear I have been following you for fifth teen years 😌
A 4 to 6 thousand dollar ocarina!! That's half the cost of my car!
The question is... I wonder how much it cost in 1981.
Congratulations man! It was meant to be!
Beautiful
Very nice David! It has a very nice tone. Is it hard to get a nice sound out of it?🙂🤔
HAPPY FOR YOU >:(
I would definitely have paid for a Sojiro - Its quality is comparable to a katana made by a master!
Haven’t seen that intro in a while
Wow, if I can recommend it, don't skip the story he tells, it's a beautiful story about sojiro
So cool!!
you paid $100 for this? wow lucky david
Very cool!

POG champ ocarina
Which camera and lens have you used here to make this video ?
I love Sojiro music~♡♡♡
sick
Where migth one purchase Sojerio-san's CDs?
those that have the other 9989 Sojiro Ocarinas, and you are not really playing them or able to play them well, please put them on the market, or give them to people like David here :)
That would be great, but I’d be surprised if anyone actually did that since they’re very valuable collectors pieces!
@@DavidErickRamos yeah, sad but probably true.
Ad an instrument no, the price would be to far out there, assuming the 4000$ mark, but as a piece of history it's worth every cent.
OCTALK!!! YES!!! 😃
is there any way to contact you with some ocarina questions?
Yep, you can shoot me email (it’s on my about page).
@@DavidErickRamos oh. i can't seem to find it there...nevermind. i went to your Facebook and it was there. :-) email incoming...
So, did you give the seller any more than the
That is a 90% discount 💀
Anyone knows where I can find Sojiro songs sheets to play? :3
4k - 6k? That could pay for like.....a month of rent in LA /j
Dang. That sound. Unexplainable.
How many ocarinas do you own?
We’ll find out during this series XD
Did y’all see the cat?
Ima be honest I didn’t expect his voice to sound like that
