In 2004, it was reported that 80% of Filipinos remained unbanked. To solve this problem, Globe Telecom entered fintech and launched GCash in 2004 under its subsidiary: Mynt - Globe’s Fintech Innovations. When Ant Financial invested in GCash, it took a simple payments app and transformed it into a super app that millions of Filipinos now use daily.
In June 2021, GCash reports that it has over 46 million users. Higher than its rival Paymaya with over 38 million users.
This is the story of how GCash became one of the most valuable companies in the Philippines.

That's very correct and that is why most of them end up losing they money do ll lln't be in a haste to invest. Know what and who you are investing to and be sure that the person will deliver

This is an introvert's dream app. I never had to go out to queue in long lines to pay my bills. I'm even paying my son's tuition through the app because his school is affiliated with GCash.

Nowadays, Gcash and Paymaya does the same things but there is one thing for gcash success.
Gcash does not charge service fees on topping up its wallet via most money sources, eg bpi, unionbank, sm payments, pawnshops, top up machines, etc. Paymaya charges service fees on topping your wallet. Ironically, paymaya charges service fees on its own topup machine while gcash does not on the same machine.

Thank you for your very informative contents. The more I watch your videos, the more I get to know how much Chinese companies influence our markets, especially here in Southeast Asia. I never thought that the big Chinese companies are making us their battlefield. Nevertheless, I am a user of Gcash and I never even consider using Paymaya. The reason is that, like what you said, everyone was using it. Hoping to see more videos from you.
As a GCash user since 2015 or 2016. Nakaka disappoint lang dahil dati pwede ka mag cash in ng walang charge sa 7/11. But now simula ng lumaki at nakilala na sila nagpapatong na sila ng charges para maka cash in.

the one thing that paymaya probably failed to look into is their brand name.
it might probably be that they never expect to get big as what they are now. but it is highly recommended to think of a brand name that is less than or equal to 3 syllables. they won't win against Gcash in terms of branding because of that 1 syllables difference.
a 1 to 2 syllable brand name is timeless type of brandname.
3 syllable is ok but that will make your brand a 2nd choice in most cases.
number of syllables doesn't matter if you are not planning to make your business go as far as being included on the list of top corporations.
I think they call that the 'law of 3 syllables' brand name in the design world.

I think it is natural to gravitate to GCASH because of BPI. BPI has already established itself as one of the biggest bank in PH. As such, you somehow would feel secure knowing that GCASH is affiliated with BPI and that the latter has been handling/managing our money for quite sometime.
Though I am not sure, GCash has a lot of "patong" in using online transfer and payments. I think during that time they still don't have visa
I mainly use gcash since it works as a payment for foreign service paymaya on the other hand is pure local
@4:07 so ok, may access sila sa big tech pero bakit meron parin times failed yung cash in and other transaction? minsan automatic within 24 hours nababalik tas meron naman more than 5 days na, hindi parin binalik so kelangan itawag.
1 time, may transaction ako tas in-order to process the reversal need ko pa mag fill out ng document tas paulit ulit nila sinasabi pero wala tlagang document na sinend sa email ko. umabot na ng 5 months tinawagan ko sila tas sinabihan nalang ako na di ko na mapapareverse yung pera kase more than 3 months na. wtf hahaha buti 500 lang yon

paymaya should just rebrand themselves as smartpay because saying paymaya is too long and that's why gcash became #1

I was in the 6th grade when I heard about it around 2004-2006. iirc I used to convert my load to gcash since it was the most convinient way to buy gunbound currency back then lol. I remembered wanting to buy a puppy and be tech savy about it by telling the seller (who was an old lady) if she accepts gcash which she said yes. Either she knows about it or just tried to humor me lol.
