This is a great tutorial! I'm very excited to start weaving for cloth. I've made a few rectangular clothes but they don't feel good to wear. I love the idea of treating woven cloth as cloth (a raw material) instead of a finished item.
You're a great teacher and thank you for the talk you did for our guild last night!

What, exactly, do you use to mark the seam line on the facing (seen at 4:39)?
Very useful video! I love this series. (PS, could we have a little less cat? It's distracting.)

That's a Chaco Liner, from Clover, available on Amazon, a little tube of powdered chalk with a serrated wheel. I have one in white, yellow, and blue. And I'm sorry about the cat, I've had lots of requests for more of the cat, hard to find the balance that will please everyone.

I just found your videos yesterday! and I noticed you have mentioned "do not backstitch" on each of the videos I have viewed...could you tell me why this is so? thank you so much

Listen carefully to the context. I say not to back stitch when I'm referring to topstitching. Topstitching should be clean, clear stitches, with no visible backstitching. Ends should be pulled to the wrong side of the garment, tied off and buried with the needle. For general sewing, my rule is, if you want it to hold together for the life of the garment, you need to back stitch. Not backstitching only refers to topstitching, in which case the ends are tied off.
