Part 1 is an introduction, what questions does this raise for you? Part 2 should be interesting
Good to see you back in action Steve. I bet the guy that did the head gasket was glad just to see you make the thing run already. Satisfying to be able to make it run with a bit of knowledge and the right tools. Top job. Lets see part 2 then!
Looking forward to part2, I've got a TFSI A3 with an intermittent low pressure issue at the moment, so keen to see the testing process to prove the fault.
Great to see you back doing what you love and back happy mate 👍🏼
Glad to see your back doing what you love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see you back Steve! Interesting case!
Great tool is forscan , I fully recommend the odb link that is specifically made for forscan .
If you look it’s on S Y Diagnostic RUclips link to his Amazon account.
Let’s support the awesome people who take time out to create these videos we ALL enjoy.
Thanks Lawson
Wiring plug issue Steve ,?, I remember issues with smiley escorts , if the washer pump motor after a crash wash fitted to indicator by mistake , very crazy things happened , looking forward to part 2
Excellent presentation and even better to see you back with a smile on that buietful face of yours. Lol
I got forscan last week from SY Diagnostics amazon channel , been using it on a transit today , really like it , didn't know you can use it thru the KTS . looking forward to part 2 Steve 👍
KTS is approved passthru for a lot of manufacturers, very stable and you know the smoke seals will be up to the job 😀
Has it been in a smash/repaired and someone’s mixed pins up 🤔 Nice to see you back making these videos again Steve 👍🏻
Vehicle was running fine before head gasket. There's always a chance of a mix up but wire colours correlate. The only question is "what changed?" That's where the answer will be found 🤓
Great to see you back at it Steve 👏
Excellent video Steve good to see you back love from Llangollen
My RS is having this EXACT same issue! My car has been at the dealership for more than a month now! I have the same exact code and the issue where the car wont start randomly and fuel rail pressure drops to 0!!!!
Attempted fixes:
Fuel filter replaced
HPFP replaced
issue still is present
You'll want to watch part 2 👍
Great too see you back out again Steve. Is there a pressure test port to verify the HP Pump? I'd like to verify what is happening at the pump vs what computers are saying with and without the sensor signal being created and with and without the HP pump plugged in. Amongst all the other suggestions of course. Would a manufacturer really use two identical connectors both in configuration and colour meaning you could get sensors connected incorrectly? Aren't they usually a different colour at least to stop that type of mistake?
Since they had the head off I'd be curious if the exhaust cam is in time before going any further. Nice video Steve.
Although I would think you'd have timing codes though if that was the case.
Valve timing has been "confirmed " as good
I dont know if this will apply to that engine. But normally the high pressure control unplug will make the high pressure rail sensor to read same value as low pressure side. Just to have a base line of what the reaction. Lets wait for part 2 and see what happen.
Interesting diag. Thanks for sharing Steve... Cheers.
Nice, good to know Steve
Do you know why the voltage on the signal wire was all over the place Steve?
Let's see what part 2 brings 😏
Could this possibly have a couple of connecters put in the wrong places when the work on the engine was done. Looking forward to part two to see how you diagnose this.
Has to be what someone done when changed head gasket. If it was running when it came in. Remember away back when on a mustang two connectors were the same and they got mixed up. Stay safe
Speaking to SY, that's still an issue on some vehicles. Part 2 is going to be cool.
Reference to OE wiring diagram for colours at each component will sort that one out, reference also to harness routing diagram, someone could have laid the harness in wrong when reassembling, so connectors "fell" in the wrong location and were then plugged into the nearest item.
"What's up with that voltage?" is a massive clue. What can modulate that voltage, even with the engine stopped?
With the history of the head work i think my next move would be to remove high pressure pump and pressure sensor and visually inspect them , check to bungs or paper stuck , check the cam drive to the pump no small parts are missing etc
is there information for the duty the fuel pump should run at at idle ? to achieve the pressure that is required . you could then use a pwm simulator to control the pump and see if the sensor reads corectly
Good job amigo ✌
ok gasoline direct injection. i was thinking derossi massimo mm03 but that's for diesel. A special high pressure line with built in pressure gauge would be handy now
I think i would disconnect rail sensor and provide a spearate 5v and a ground to the sensor and scope signal from sensor then leaving the harnes disconnected put the .6v down the signal wire then see if we're getting those wierd voltages showing up on the scope + scan tool
My wild guess diagnostics would suggest the high pressure fuel pump has not been reinstalled correctly.. Similar to the vauxall video with the supposedly correct cams fitted...
That voltage bouncing around like that, are all the grounds good ?
Grounds are good 👍
Not sure about the rs, but on the 1.0 you can mix the fuel pump wire up with an evap solonoid that lives in the same area of the engine bay, I know from experience 😂
interesting. failed to bleed the system before cranking on it or they got dirt in the open lines???
looking forward.......
Anything to do with neutral position on gearbox?
Hello Steve do you do on site training mate thanks
I certainly do, drop me an email to technical@simplydiag.net 👍
@@SimplyDiagnostics will do first thing tomorrow thanks
Following...✍️
I would think it’s something they have had off and not put back correctly like 2 multi plugs mixed up 🤔
I would be surprised if its down to plugs being in the wrong place as usually these days manufacturers use the same style plugs but with different housing notches so they can't be mixed up.
Is the high pressure pump timed up to stop harmonics within the engine, could this be a pump timing issue which doesn't fault until plugged in?
Wonder if part two has any more information about the head work carried out but that there's been 'other' undisclosed electrical work.
Great comment and you're right to question other aspects. We have to find evidence to support our hypothesis ( we were on slightly sticky ground as you'll see in part 2) before we commit to intrusive testing or the parts cannon 👍
@@SimplyDiagnostics hahaha go on baby!! Slightly sticky ground 😉, when will part two be out?
I filmed the on car today (an hour), I've yet to do the screen captures and walk through ( maybe 2 hrs work) Then the editing (about 4 hrs for this one) then rendering (2 hrs) then watch it through a few times, then upload, finally thumbnail, tags, description and we should be good. All for a 30 min -1hr video 👍
@@SimplyDiagnostics ill look forward too it next month 😊
How does the earth side of the rail sensor wiring test, just with the signal bouncing around key on engine off
GND was 👍
Hey finally the simulator got used😝. What did you use for the pinout??
It's a standard 3 wire sensor, has to have vref, gnd and signal return, i had to check for each so simple to identify signal, also had access to factory diagram from alldata and a diagram from Hella HGS
can you command the fuel-pump in tank off with that forscan when it runs to see if it stalls real quick= high pressure pump is likely faulting while you tell it it has good rail pressure with simulator ?. i accidentally ran a vw tfsi without high pressure plunger follower lol and it can run on just the in tank pump.. i noted that in my head
Unplugging the HP pump should default to low pressure supply only according to manufacturer info. Part 2 will prove this.
Hi steve good video , looking into buying hubbitool sensor simulator , has someone incorrectly crossed a multi plug somewhere ? Rob mobileman
Very valid question 👍
www.focusrs.org/threads/ford-focus-rs-faulty-fuel-rail-sensor-relpaced-my-p0089-and-p0171.119166/ not that expensive, seems to be a common point of failure as well...I'd replace that first.
#Testnotguess let's see if we can prove before launching the parts cannon. If the part was £1k we wouldn't be so quick to condemn 👍
@@SimplyDiagnostics Please do, I enjoy seeing your logic and methodology. Adding one of those sensor simulators to my tool bag asap!!!
Where is part 2 I’m impatiently waiting 😂
Whats happened to part 2 ?????
Nothing yet, still in edit
Ok pal thanks for the quick reply
Is the PCM supplying the dodgy voltage to the pump Steve ?
is the PCM at fault i mean
Bad PCM ground ie voltage on the ground supplied by the PCM to pump. Roll on part 2
We can see voltage but we haven't checked (on camera) how much work is being done by the regulator. This can only be seen with current 👍
@@SimplyDiagnostics 👍
My moneys on mixed up connectors, that feedback of rail pressure signal ain’t correct
hola muy buenos dias solicito sus servicios por favor como puedo cominicarme con usted sobre una 2005 pathfinder 4.0 codigo P0605 y en la ABS codigo C1131 por favor gracias please i need help let know
Is that Ivan's laptop ???
No sir, same make I think, tbh, not the best, fingerprint reader and screen failed in week 2 🤣
Haha no, Ivan has a Spin 1.
Incidentally I have a Spin 3!
First😜
Glad I sold my mk3 pile of shit
