Sometimes I wonder about Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima's race, like someone outside the race interfered, pushed him out and very likely cost him the gold, how do you compensate for that? You can't really have them do a redo since its a freakin Marathon. I'm glad he doesn't seem to see it that way, he powered through, happily accepted the bronze and he eventually got to light the cauldron in the 2016 Olympics. For him, he said the medal is a bronze but it's gold to him. But at the same time, you kinda can't help but wonder how the story would've played out had he not been tackled by an outsider...
I wonder that too. But at the same time I feel that this experience made more of an impact on the world than if he HAD won a gold medal. It would have been nice if he had won, but this actually made him MORE than a winner; It made him a legend. An idol. The reason this story resonates with all of us is because everyone has idiots who interfere in their "race of life". Everyone has nay-sayers or just plain jerks who want to see them fail. Vanderlei taught us that if we press forward and make it to the end of our "race" with good grace, then we are all winners of life.
Nice comment. Interesting to know that few people knows who got the gold and silver medals.
he did get awarded the pierre de coubertin medal for outstanding sportsmanship. only 20 ish people have ever been awarded that.
@@gavinandrews843 👍🏼
What was he protested for?
I love the father son finishing it get's me every time
That is why I love the Olimpics. It is more than medals.
Before even watching this I knew Kerri Strugg would be on here. I remember watching that with my parents and just being in awe at the willpower of that young woman. Inspiring.
Ya know who should been in there?Yuzuru Hanyu. That dude got rammed into during a warm up and was bleeding from his head and chin, I heard it was a rather major head injury, yet he went out on the ice and did his routine. He fell 5 times and kept getting up, even though it was harder to do so the more he fell. He completed his routine and could barely skate out of the arena, let alone walk. Anf he still won a silver medal in figure skating.
yes. i was looking for his name here. props to you. (although that wasn't at the olympics, he is an incredible being)
@@ellinoora7021 I think, when he was skating at the 2018 Olys, he had some ankle injury that was still healing and he skated on painkillers that day. I almost didn't believe it when I found out, you could see no sign on pain.
The subtitles are faster than the athletes
I thought the same thing.
André Objectiveit I kept pausing it every time to read it 😂
They are faster than my internet connection
No creí que pudiera llorar y reír al mismo tiempo jajaja

3:12 That's the most impressive thing I've ever heard of
Knowing later what actually she had to endure thru, I can't imagine how she got thru all those hours of physical strain. And she won bronze. This is the greatest feat in all of Olympics, I say.
Such a tearjerker! Truly inspiring!😍😍😍
2016 artistic gymnast Andreas Toba from Germany tore his ACL during his floor routine. He asked it to be taped up tightly to stabilize his knee and went on to perform on the pommel horse to score the points his team needed to advance to the final. He even stood the landing and was helped off the apparatus by his teammates. Instead of returning home immediately like the doctors adviced, he stayed with his team.
In Germany Andreas Toba was celebrated like a hero for his outstanding team spirit and was given at least the same amount of attention horizontal bar gold medalist Fabian Hambüchen had gotten. Toba didn't win a medal, but he won our hearts.
A dad will always be there.
thank you, i’m crying real tears. this is so powerful
All these athletes dignify the olimpic spirit.
Every one of these athletes are magnificent 👌💖✨
Matthias Steiners performance in the olympics 2008 in weightlifting is an impressive and moving story as well
Truly inspired!!
great determination
the first ones already got me...
2:15 look how fast they reacted and jumped in to help the athlete! humanity
Muitos desses momentos são de puro espirito esportivo.
a TORN ACL and he can stand??????? my God
I have ruptured my ACL twice, it's mainly used as the ligament in the knee for pivoting - so after the initial pain, it quickly swells and stops hurting -assuming you haven't injured anything else. Continuing to perform in a high pivot intensity sport with a torn ACL is super risky, not just for further pain, but for the chance to injure other parts of the knee.
I basically has blow up my muscles at the leg and I didn't feel anything . This happen when I playing softball and then I realize my leg starting to blue 1 month in the hospital . Tough enough
Quando você defende uma bandeira um povo, uma cultura, vai muito além do físico. Chega ser espiritual
Awesome vid!
Let's wait for some new legends from this year's Olympics.
This brings me to teeeeeeeears!!!
I feel you. Huhu.
as someone studying medicine. while i admire them for their determination, i feel like some of them are stubborn and actually injured themselves more
It is a shame that you completely forgot about the Japanese gymnast Shun Fujimoto, who in 1976 in Montreal broke his knee in the floor exercises but continued competing with a broken knee in the pommel horse and especially the rings when he had to land from a great height on his feet, to help his team win gold. I remember the British commentator describing him as either very brave or very foolish.
Champions!!
Gabriella Anderson schess 😍
Lo que le paso al brazilero yo no lo podía creer ese día, tantos años tanto sacrificio...sin palabras
Never give up
4:57 😭😭😭😭
Keri Strug was so tuff
No.4 hands down

Smiling Skater but you died
Arjun Anand I revived myself by watching her triple axel 🥴
Vanderlei nosso herói!! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
someone else see the tear in 4:05?
Ninno Frigo that was a tear? I thought the girls put glitter on their eyes
I would say many of these cross the line between determination and stupidity.
These are fastest when the athletes were going to be strong for Tokyo, Japan 2020 Summer Olympic Games next year.
Delayed due to pandemic.

Are you serious.
That was Beijing 2008 not London 2012😂
Does no one remember the Jamaican bobsled team that crashed at high speed but still walked through the finish line
I heard one of them is living in Buckingham Palace now 🤣
Once hurt my toe in a game of footy and I powered thru it does that count?
There is also Kurt Angle who won his gold medal in Atlanta 1996 with a "broken freaking neck". :)
We all know the actual number 1, Kurt Angle won the Gold medal with a broken freakin neck
😂😂😂
It's true!
А случай с Алексеем Немовым в 2004 сюда не подходит? А легендарные три секунды в баскетбольном матче СССР-США? не?
The ‘72 Olympic basketball final was a fix by a British official who was in the stands spectating. He was not there in an officiating capacity, yet he put his two cents in and acted as if he had a say in the matter. Soviets can thank a Brit for their gold medals.
This gave me serious anxiety watching
Well you're not alone
No Shun Fujimoto from Montreal 1976? VERY disappointing. Man competed with a broken kneecap to help Japan win the all around team gymnastics Gold.
Gabrielle Andersen deveria ser o primeiro e o Vanderlei Cordeiro o segundo.
Oh no we've got a lunatic on the track, just like Silverstone last year?
Petra Majdič
Minta beladiri TAEKWONDO MOMEN
-_-
Edit:in case you don't get it, it's Undertale reference
What about that time that Kylie Jenner disguised herself as a man and won the decathalon?
some of them are "the cult to the weak"
