I could see where you’re coming from, but I personally think that Leon and Sonia were more similar to the protagonist and Hop. They’ were also rivals, but Sonia clearly gave up on the Pokémon League and became a professor assistant (at the time). Sonia’s travels were kinda mentioned in the game, and there’s a note in Ballonlea that says that Sonia passed Opal’s quiz, but she wasn’t chosen as the gym leader, so Sonia finished at least 5/8 of her journey. Strangely, I think of Raihan more like a parallel to Marnie/Bede. All of them ended up to be a gym leader. According to Bede, if you rematch him, he states that he could’ve been the Champion if he’s born in a different time than the protagonist (take a with a pinch of salt, considering it’s Bede, but canonically he’s strong as well).

It was done really well- especially the background sound effects. It felt like a real animation! I would watch full episodes of this. It's a lot of fun!
