It is not even a religion. The fact that there is the death penalty for leaving it alone proves it is a dangerous cult. If you need the death penalty for leaving it, it means that without that threat most people would leave it. Western world, stop all funding to any Islam organisation, however benign it looks. Speaking about genocide, same thing happened to my people in Indonesia. Muslim apologists keep using my country's history how Islam came to here without war only trade. As an Indonesian, Islam didn't really come with trade especially to what happened with my ethnic groups, an indigenous ethnic group in the middle of Sumatran jungles and Bukit Barisan mountain range near the largest vulcanic lake in the world. In 1539, Acehnese Sultanate invaded my ancestors's land when one of our king refused Islam. Aceh faced difficulties during the war then they bought & hired Ottoman weapons & soldiers to invade us. In the 1810s during Padri War, an Islamic civil war in Minangkabau, Padri soldiers also heard a cannibalistic pagan tribes in the middle of North Sumatra remained as pagans, Padri soldiers massacred 200.000 people even executed our king for not accepting Islam, they brutally ransacked our villages/cities & massacred my ethnic groups who refused their religion. They were failed to conquer us when a cholera outbreak happened thanks to dead bodies that leaked cholera. After they failed to conquer us, our ancestors were devastated after watching our ransacked kingdoms and dead relatives even cholera outbreak happened and decimated our population. My ancestors became hostile towards outsiders/foreigners. A couple of US Baptist missionarists came and introduced Christianity. Too bad, the locals thought they were another hostile foreigners/outsiders and they caught & ate them. Before Christianity came, my people were pagans who had cannibalistic culture/rituals. My ancestors conducted cannibalism towards people who did terrible crimes such as rape, murder, or treason. POWs were also eaten back then. Before Christianity, my ancestors believed if we ate people, it'd grant us magical strength. We also did child sacrifice ritual. A German missionarist came and introduced Christianity among my people. He built schools, hospitals, etc. But a lot of kingdom citizens hated him coz Christianity could destroy our culture and religion such as our cannibalistic rituals. Cannibalism and child sacrifice were eventually banned when Dutch colonial regime imposed anti cannibalism law towards us in 1900s. If Christianity never came, perhaps my people would still do capital punishment in form of cannibalism and child sacrifice. Unlike other Indonesian regions which were colonized for 350 years, we only got conquered in 1907 when Dutch soldiers succesfully assassinated our priest king. Dutch faced difficulties at fighting a cannibalistic nation in the middle of Sumatran jungles near a large lake. Ironically, the perpetrators who conducted genocide towards my people are now considered as national heroes despite a lot of people from my ethnic groups protested the government

The word Islam does not mean peace as is often assumed. It means submission or surrender. Mark Durie, a linguistics and theology scholar, writes: “In its original meaning, a Muslim was someone who surrendered in warfare.” Muhammad’s famous phrase aslim taslam means surrender (i.e. submit to Islam) and you will be safe. These words were included by him in letters sent to various rulers offering them peace if they surrendered to Islam. This is important because, far from carrying a peaceful meaning, Islam actually means peace after surrender in warfare or after subjugation.
Arabic nouns are usually formed from 3 or 4 consonants. In this case the consonants are S-L-M or sseen, laam, meem. These 3 consonants SLM are found in i-SLaaM (submission) and SaLaaM (peace). Accordingly is said that Islam means the attainment of peace through submission to the will of God. All the Prophets submitted their wills to God and hence it is said that they practised Islam as their religion.
Obviously Mark Durie cannot be much of a scholar if he brings "warfare" into the meaning of the word. This famous phrase that you mention of is completely unknown to me. Where in the Quran is it mentioned?
The Prophet never demanded people embrace Islam in his letters. He was always polite and invited them to Islam. Many rulers did not accept his invitation and he left them as they were. So to suggest that he somehow demanded that they surrender and submit to Islam is blatant rubbish.
You need to educate yourself properly on these matters before making such statements.

That is deceit. You lot have been playing these sorts of games now for some time because you know that the ordinary working Muslim would not look at these matters and that the Muslim scholars who are aware of the facts but won't bother to talk to you.
The Prophet applied in real life what he was commanded to do by Allah in the Quran. So if it was revealed that he should tell the rulers "submit or die" then he would do so. The Quran does not say to tell the other rulers "submit or die" so he would not say this.
Don't compare the Prophet to Osama Bin Laden or any other person. He stands in the category of Prophets. You might rubbish your Prophets as you see fit but Muslims don't do that.
If you want to talk about "religion of peace" then i suggest you first look into all the violence committed by Christian Europeans for the past hundreds of years - invasions of nations, colonisation, imperialism, massacres, rapes, mass murders, theft of land and national assets, genocide, and on and on and on. The Africans, the Asians, the Red Indians, the indigenous popu;ations of south america and australia, etc etc - practically everyone on this planet in some shape way or form was messed up by Christian Europeans and you have the audacity to say sarcastically "religion of peace". Trying to impute your own historical evil deeds on Muslims and Islam won't work.

I had recited the Shahada when I was 20. I soon noticed in Islamic religious classes that the speakers face would move as if to spit whenever they talked about Jews and Christians. Finally when a speaker actually spat while talking about Christians, I got up and left. Never again was I charmed by the religion of spit.
I am now an atheist and happy.

And yes, I have heard of Jesus, read almost all the classic apologetic books, Lee Strobel's older books, the Case for Christ, and also the fine tuning argument, cosmological argument, contingent argument etc. I spent much of my teenage in an evangelical para-church organization and Islam ate my later part of my youth.

In Germany 1930s, the Nazis called "Jews, go to Palestine", acknowledging of course the historical link to the land. In WW1 about 12,000Jews were killed in battles, out of 100000 Jewish soldiers (thousands were decorated for their bravery), which was a huge percentage of the Jewish population. German Jews were prominent in science, philosophy, music, art and were proud patriots, striving to assimilate, often at the expense of their religious customs and rituals. None of these matter of course: not to Hitler who came up with the "stab in the back "theory, and not to this Muslim hateful liar who is allowed to fabricate whatever rubbish he wants. But is it really so different with most Westerners now? Look at the media reporting the Al Ahli hospital or the "flour massacre "which never was.
