The difficulty in storage has become a kind of sciatic nerve in the art sector, causing problems and ailment for both artists and galleries or museums. This panel, based on the research “Poetics and Politics of Storage and Circular Use” conducted by Hangar in 2023, delves into the concerns surrounding congestion resulting from unlimited accumulation. What logistical, material, economic, and poetic decisions does this spatial crisis prompt?
Discussing the tensions surrounding storage inevitably leads to considerations of sustainability and a reevaluation of our heritage preservation model. What if, at times, we decide not to preserve? Is it possible to separate the memory work supposedly facilitated by the conservation of the material invariability?
