As someone who holds off from buying the original OP-Z because of poor material choices and how fragile it is judging from the Reddit posts, I really think that an aluminum enclosure and a little screen would benefit OP-Z a lot!
The size could get slightly bigger too, I think it would still be portable enough.

Your concept is so good my heart stopped for a second when I saw the video thumbnail. The real OP-Z field must be really amazing if TE wants to make me like it better, amazing job!
@@gonya707 Thank you! What's actually good is that I've sent this concept directly to Teenage Engineering and they liked it so much that they've sent it further to their design and engineering teams. Let's hope it inspires them to make something similar!

Aluminium body
More rounded synth engines
Time stretching on the sample engine
Longer sample time
Line module
Other than that the opz is already so good!

I want a screen, better buttons, better sounds, better synth engine, definitely give it a build, and a web app that can help with loading sounds.
I would love steam mixdown on device for further editing in daw. Or multichannel usb for tracking. Nothing else. Oh, resampling would be great.

@@erniecf OP1 is totally different device. OP1 don't have midi sequencer and OPZ has probable best on the market.
I must be one of the few who just does not care that the OP-Z does not have a screen. I don't think it needs one at all, and don't think it will get one. The device is too small, and the line module takes up space at the top. I feel like adding a screen would add unwanted bulk to it and worse battery.
I can operate my opz in complete darkness (almost) but screen is a good idea for future opz imho.
I refuse to pay the exorbitant amounts of money for the OP-1 Field but, I will for an OP-Z Field..

OP-Z is now 15% discounted on TEs store and it's modules are over 50% discounted. Seems like they really want to get rid of their current stock. I think we'll se an announcement real soon..

@@helveticabestfont12345 Very likely. Since making my comment i have also noticed that TE seems to have completely stopped production of the expansion modules altogether. The line module (by far most popular) has been out of stock on TEs site for many months now. Most big retailers have even removed the item from their site completely. About 2 months back i managed to find a local retailer selling it so i ordered one and a couple hours later the page for the line module was removed from their site. Think i got one of the very last few produced..
Don’t need for a new OP-Z. Everything I want is a granular update on the OP-1 field.
I been saying Granular needs to be in the OP-1 Field. I would love the OP-Z sequencer in the OP-1 Field.
The OP-Z is amazing as it is, and has so much potential to be better.

According to my “sources” there is no specific EP follow up in the works. But we’ll see!
I love my op z for many reasons but I hope the new version is made of metal, has better synth engines and wouldn’t mind it getting slightly bigger.

Definitely better sounds and synths. Also can we get some natural sounding instruments like Pianos, Bass Guitar, Saxophone, etc.
Op-Z has already a screen, the App, I think that's more convenient in budget terms and it could offer a lot of usability if you don't hate phones...
Or for the price of the OP-1 Field…why does it not have the OP-Z sequencer built in it.

I don't have much experience with the OP-Z even though there's one sitting on my desk. This design, however, looks a really nice and welcoming. I always hear about the sequencing being really powerful.
Yeah the sequencing is awesome…if only the sampling was too. It would probably the only thing I ever use :D
An OP-Z field would be great! I always assumed they weren't going to do it (they even said the CM-15 completed the field range) but I hope that's not true. All your ideas are good here.

i do use mine now and then as you might’ve seen and i do share the same opinion on sampling implementation as you. i don’t really enjoy op-z synth sounds too much, but more importantly i would love to have a better master drive/compressor, something like that absolutely gorgeous one on the ep-133 🤞 and i would really appreciate a screen of course, any screen option would be better that nothing for me personally. finally, i’d love to see a revised and more balanced set of punch in effects, would make live performances way more pleasant 🙌

The candy bar design + the thinness of the OP-Z is good for handheld use, but not for desk/tabletop use.
The Seqtrak is opposite of that, good for tabletop...bad for handheld.
Funny you say that, because I don’t find the OP-Z ideal for portable use in terms of form factor. It’s too short to comfortably fit across the legs…and is too light, so a heavy coiled headphone cable can easily drag it down. The OP-1 fields dimensions and weight are better…KO2 as well
I agree with everything you said except chassis difference. It definitely needs (symbolic) back lighting instead of just a button led.

Biggest gripe with TE is their speakers on OP synths kill my ears, and placement on face could be used for another knob or something. People are using their headphones anyways for audio quality.

My asks (in addition to what people have suggested, which is all sound):
(a) Some way of sequencing even when your step length is greater than 1. It's just too strange to say that if step length is greater than 1, I have to live record on that impossible keyboard.
(b) Is there no way disk mode on these suckers could be wireless so I can reconfigure samples without fetching a wire each time?

LOL my OP-Z just spent 3 months in Stockholm (at some point they forgot about it), after it came back, line module is still not working properly. Would still buy again, it’s a great little device. 😊

Love the concept and some great suggestions here. Better batteries(s) on the next model! Either a really good internal one (like on the OP-1 Filed) or replaceable ones that could keep it going for as long as the KO2.

Difficult one, but I would say it is my favorite sequencer…it is not however my favorite sampler. If it only had a bit better sampler (&organizing of samples) it would be.

@@SONWU Just tried out the Digitakt 2 for a few days and got to to say. The op z was more to my liking. Elektron obiously takes the cake in terms of build quality and button feel. To my surprise tho I did not really enjoy 8 pages. The Zs step length resolution was is not perfect either, but kept me more in the moment.
Digitakt II has no mute groups, no poliphony (per track), no punch in fx
If only TE would make another Digitakt competitor, slightly bigger with more satisfying buttons and sturdier build quality...
@@reneeschke 100% agree…the way OP-Z handles track lengths and speeds and such is just so fluid. I don't really mind not having multiple pages either, as you can always chain multiple patterns.
I would LOVE an updated OP-Z with better build quality…a few better synths & proper sample management. That's all that's needed.

@@nottaller1993 man can’t remember where but if you check OPforums or Elektronauts it was somewhere referenced. It was at an event similar to this situation where the team said it was the end of the Field line.

Is the op-1 field and ko2 a good combo for sampling and chopping?
The KO2 is fine alone for sampling and chopping, but doing very detailed microchopping is a bit tough with the knobs. Can’t fine tune it like an MPC or SP404mk2.

@@SONWU Old yamaha boxes are awesome. Super cool fx like on the old elektribes. Having it in a box like new smpltrack but with a screen wold be nice. thats why i hope they will make more again. I also like the dirrection TE took with their new KO sampler and id love to have a same format TONIK.
TE gadgets … that’s what they are… are not professional equipment … they are digital toys that sounds way too much digital and no warmth in their outputs for what you pay for. For example, their mixer, it’s unusable and sound terrible. Nothing wrong with purely digital sounding devices but not for that kind of $$$$. And yes indeed, players like Yamaha will eat their lunch soon enough. Korg already makes wonderfully designed gadgets and sound equipment at a third of the price. So just keep reviewing what you can do with these overpriced toys but do not bother us with your addiction you fell into either their products. I actually own one of their toys but did not spend 2k on it. I spent 2k on a handmade analog synth though … vermona Perfourmer … I only need 1 analog synths not 10 with that investment. I do own purely digital stuff. Do keep your techno feudal addiction to yourself and keep worshipping them as gods but don’t throw that crap on us. Goodbye little boy.
