    I'm watching this series again after ten years, quite refreshing, much better than anything on TV.

    Outstanding video! And truly inspirational for all of us home machinists. This project represents the apex of skill sets I hope to achieve. I can't thank you enough for taking the time and effort to produce videos such as this and share them with others. Truly representative of all that is good in our otherwise increasingly shallow and dumbed down society

    Thanks for posting this. I've was hoping you'd show us the engine building process while I was watching the pattern making series. Excellent work as always. :D

    This is super stuff. It is a real pleasure to watch an expert at work.

    I think its REALLY cool that you can do a good casting, my dad and i are going to set up a metal shop with all that stuff, we already have the crucible. Keep it up.

    I believe if this series is one of the ones you "repete" when you start doing that it would be extremely popular. I can't count the number of times I've watched it myself. :-)

      Wow, there are lotta views on that aren’t there. For now, I was planning on repeating the tips

      @@mrpete222 most of those views may be mine, Mr. Pete..I run your playlists constantly..my wife is probably as familiar with you as I..truth be told. :-)

    oh, also my dad and i started to make a mini steam engine, made from metal, shaped on a much smaller lathe, cant wait to finish

    That is a very nice casting. I thought that riser shape looked familiar. lol

    Nice video. It was funny what you said about not drinking beer for a couple months to afford a dovetail post. True. So true. That and cigarettes is another one.

    I really enjoy all your videos, and can tell you are a great teacher. I would have loved to have been in your class. I have wanted to get a lathe and mill to do some projeccts such as this and now at age 44 I am thinking about getting a Grizzly mill and lathe. Could you send me your thoughts on an entry level set quality up such as the Grizzly.

  • @MrUbiquitousTech

    This is going to be an impressive engine!
    LOL, "stop drinking beer for a month and you can afford it." So true, I tell guys at work something similar about their smoking; even if their health isn't a concern to them, all the money wasted each year on a nasty habit could buy a lot of good stuff.

  • @mrpete222
    @mrpete222  12 лет назад

    sounds like a big project. Try it , if your lathe is big enough.

    Nice job,not building a toy one this time then! I hope your going to build a slide valve engine from that casting rather than and oscilating engine.

    Thank you for taking the time to post your videos.
    I have learned a lot from them. Cant wait to see the new engine progress. I have a new Grizzly G0704 and an old S.B 10' (Dad's) Have built a couple of woblers. Do you cast your flywheels?
    Thanks

    @turbinedoctor Thanks for the complements. My brother has a Grizzley mill (bridgeport clone. ) He said it is very good. Do not buy any of there cheapest machines. Save your money & get at least their middle grade.

    hello mrpete222, i was wondering if it will be possible to put a wire brush on as an attachment to clean out the bore real good?

  • @truthhurtz8767

    I wouldn't want to do that,but, very educational.

  • @rlewis1946

    A quick question, if I may... What would be a good 'rule of thumb' to use when figuring total amount of metal (say AL) to melt as a percentage of finished casting that would include sprue and riser volumes for a casting of this size? For example, would it be 110 or 120% of the finished (cored) casting?
    Thanks again for all these first rate teaching videos! Wish my Dad would be alive to watch and learn from them, too...
    Best wishes from Buffalo, NY

    Hi, can the wobbler engine principal be scaled up to make an engine big enough to drive a 14ft boat? About 2hp? Any idea what size bore/stroke would do that?

    do u think its too ambitious to try to tern a cast aluminum cranck for my steam engine it needs a 5" stroke shaft size or center jurnal are un deternend ay this point =3-

  • @mrpete222
    @mrpete222  11 лет назад +1

    Its very hard to estimate. The mold is ruined if you're short. I always try for double if the pot is big enough.

    Why does the cast steam when it comes out of the sand is it heating the water in the air?
