how to block android from installing system updates automatically | disable android auto update

Not quite my phone wants to update and has taken away some features and i assume has made my phone vulnerable to failing in the near future like constant crashing and screen blackout while using and constant but slight screen flickering
True. I hate them.
Will this stop updates on the Android LG Stylo 4? They have been removing quality functions to force people to buy a new brand of phone. I saw something that said 'disable uodates' in settings & haven't been able to find it again to stop them from wrecking my phone. For instance my carrier T-mobile tech department did a deep reset for me twice, fixing the VOLTE ON selection button which would gray out while on a phone call, so I couldn't go on the internet at the same time, which was fixed & working perfectly for a solid month, then some auto update would go through and remove those repaired functions 30 days later. Since I called around.the time of my billing cycle AND auto update cycle, the repair lasted for 30 days until the auto obsolescence updates cycled and it went back to the malfunctioning state. I immediately talked to the technical department who again fixed it with a deep reset in less than an hour, which also worked for an entire 30 days, & the auto LG update went through & again removed the (repaired) reset functions. If I had disabled updates the functions would have remained.
Automatic system updates need to be a felony. A person can be killed while their phone decides to take a twenty minute nap for literally no reason.
You would have to get some good lawyers and get a lot of other people who were wronged or who knew people that were wronged to do it too. Ask them if a class action suit would be a good idea.
@@alexandertownsend5079 Court? Nah, force is better. Most of these companies are going to disappear anyway.
@@cowsagainstcapitalism347 Yeah good luck with that. These companies are powerful. I don't see them going anywhere any time soon.
@@alexandertownsend5079 We see differently.

Thank you. I knew I wasn't crazy. Every single time my phone automatically updates something is fucked up afterwards. Every goddamn time. This was much needed. I appreciate it
Fun fact: every time your phone updates the battery life gets worse, thanks for this tutorial
I turned it off in developer mode, and it still automatically updated. Under software update I have no option to turn it off.
Same and i am missing stuff off my phone when it does update against my wishes
Me too and I'm on a13
Root
Thank you so much, MKF! 👍 Just got my first new phone yesterday after 6yrs with the other. The way they try to force these things on the customer is criminal.
Anyways, have a blessed day.
They "UPDATE" phones to slow them down so u buy the latest model
Thanks mate 👍 very helpful. Hope you an your family the best for the new year.
Developer Mode / Auto update IS turned off and has been for a year and the phone still updates whenever it likes. Is your phone rooted or something?
Same, I've had auto-updates turned off ever since I got the phone and yet it always forces updates anyway at the most inconvenient times and ruins everything
My last two phones did that and it was the beginning of the end for me, evrything started working worst and I had to side step some apps just to be able to play my games and music. I just hate updates man.
My galaxy s10 plus has a couple ways like in your video to "disable" auto updates, however I get them anyway. I have one now doing the countdown and in 6 days it will download regardless if I want it to or not. I know for a fact, it's happened to every phone I had prior, that one of these "helpful " downloads that they force us to accept, will destroy the functionality of my phone...its a shame that they make me buy a new phone when they feel I need it...I hate how the world is.
me too Why!!!
Ive got samsung a32...i disable auto updates and this done not work....software.updates are still downloaded automatically
This doesnt work.I did all of this and my youtube apps is still auto updating every single day. It's driving me crazy!!!
This video is BS! I turned everything off that he said, and they still updated by phone so what's up with that? How are they able to do it when I had the button disengaged?!
Thanks it was well explained..and worked perfectly..
I followed the steps but it has a block on there that won't let me press the button to stop updating and I don't know what else to do but throw my phone at the wall and break it
AMEN ?!
Thank you so much. It's ridiculous they make this like a secret puzzle and hide it in the phone. There's actually been emergencies where I needed to call people and my phone auto updated right before I could. I hope someone sues android for a lot of money for this. And there's no reason we should have to jump through hoops to even figure out how to turn this feature off. I already had turned auto updates off but that didn't stop my phone from doing it so what's the point of that setting and why do you need to search through your phone and tap this random button multiple times just to actually fix it. 🙃
i disabled all auto update but i stil receive a page for programed update schedule
Thankyou 👏👏 you solved my problem
Video starts at 0:35
Really sorry if you found the video long ....my apologies
My Samsung auto updated to 4.1 and that was it, the phone got slower and started lagging like crazy and I had to go and find android 3.1 and now my phone is running fast again. So not planning on updating anytime soon.
Updates slow your phone no?
Good information video. Thank you very much.
At one point a few years ago, my phones and computers would ask if I wanted an update. I would be given an option for yes, one for later, and one for no. Now there is no option for no. The phone will tell you it is necessary when its not. It will claim that you need it for your phone to keep working as well as it is now which is tevhnically true, but only because someone or something tampers with the finctionality of the phone in the event that you try to opt out of or postpone the update.
Thank you, this was resourceful
When I go to Settings-Software Update, there is no option Auto Download Over Wi-Fi. I only have Download and Install and Last Update. Just these two options.
Thank you budd .

Thank you for the video. You should have said how to stop mandatory downgrades what you'd intentionally destroy your telephone... But thank you for the information.. cell phone companies should literally be charged with felonies when they force this b******* upon us.

Just got the s23 ultra and its supposed to update to one ui 5.1 but i heard after updating there's a battery drainage problem..definitely gonna try these tips to not update
Your accent is so thick that at times I have no idea what you are saying...like how many times do you tap on that one screen? I see you tapping on it a few times, but I have no idea what you said & I've paused & replayed it several times. Thank you for making this video, but I sure do wish you'd be clearer & slower with your speaking.
hey thanks for this feedback ...I will try and be slower next time onwards ....it helps when people are supportive and help explain what can be improved ..... thanks again .....
@@MakeKnowledgeFree Thank you for being so kind.
@@MakeKnowledgeFreemaybe a transcript in the comments will help us. Thanks.
Very frustrating... not ADA supported... damn thing took away my virtual keyboard now i have to talk to text...then it shut down my messaging...when i try to turn it on says app won't start until reboot... that doesnt work... so i cant receive or send texts...had a smart feature for messaging where i could see my voicemail messages instead of listening... that feature is now gone... nonexistant... there should be a class action lawsuit for this... we need a phone we can control... this is dangerous... i had an autoupdate off feature now its gone... well back to landline.
I feel your pain ... had similar issues during a auto update myself and I was like why should I suffer for something that's been forced on me ....
@@MakeKnowledgeFree AMEN?!... There needs to be a class action lawsuit before someone dies in an emergency... i'm considering looking into it... this is dangerous and life threatening.
Thank you so much!
Can't understand a word
Tysm 🤲
thank you so much my friend
What if when I click on the updates part it just has continue update
My too, it says it optional bit I can really pick anything else.
Just go on the setting and use the search bar and look up auto update, they moved it on the new phones.
@@kieradark3120I tried. No thing morning nowhere gives me an option to stop them except when a prompt pops up.
Thanks

Man if only eye could innerstand what u were saying certain parts of the video
Yeah me too I which I "innerstand" what the f you saying too.
I was looking for a transcript but those things aren't always accurate either
You can never understand these people
This remedy does not work. You should take it down. I already have auto update turned off and I still get forced updates
He should leave it up for all the people that it works for, "and" like you, it doesn't work for me. I'm on MotorG 5G phone. I just bought it a couple weeks ago. It updated to the latest Android 12 just two days ago, and now it keeps prompting me to "Install Android 13 now" or "Install Android 13 later?" I had already turned off the auto update, but it's just a matter of time before I get Android 13 and all the bad that comes with it, like: Many apps that I use are not Android 13 ready, and I will lose them.
Auto update must be alawys disabled as a measure of safety. Android 12 will mess you up if you use mobile hotspot.
