Considering villains in Japan tend to be called “demon kings”, as a sign of their evil, it’s safe to say that wasn’t an error. Bowser was referred to as Demon king Koopa in older Japanese manuals, and who to say Bowser isn’t some sort of demon?

Great response once again! It seems very weird for Matpat to say that Dorrie and Plessie aren't dinosaurs (or at least, inspired by not-dinosaurs)... only to consider them full on dinosaurs. I get its close enough, but he doesn't bring it up and it bothers me. The flip-flopping between "Yoshi is a descendant of Plessie" and "he's an hybrid of Plessie and Bahamutt" is also very weird: which one is it, Matpat?
The ending is also bizarre even beyond the clickbait: he could just as easliy make a "You are the father" joke or something, but he goes the whole mile with "Yoshi is going to be evil" when it's never brought up at any other point. Anyways, looking forward for future videos!

If those descriptions MatPat brings up are from trophies, it should also be noted that the trophy entries in Smash Bros are known for occasionally having inaccurate information. A good example of this is Brawl's King K Rool's trophy talking about Kaptain K Rool being K Rool's brother when it was just another alias K Rool used for DKC2.
Yep, he acknowledged this in another comment earlier on when someone asked about the descriptions of trophies specifically and how they can have misinformation and how the games being simply imagination makes them irrelevant to canon.
I remember when the Smash Trophies claimed that ReDeads are just clay dolls when it's official that they are fucking zombies.
I don't know why people think Smash is Cannon when a ball of happiness incarnate loses to a penguin while a child beats up Ganondorf in the background.
A lot of MatPat’s theories are just cherry picking facts and misinterpreting them to fit his narrative, for example, his Hollow Knight theory.
Aside from that, the Yoshi Clan most likely existed before Bowser was born, given how there’s an entire series where Bowser is still a child.
To continue this, I don’t know what’s considered canon or non canon in present day Mario.
Mario and Luigi’s original workplace was in New York, but with recent games, New Donk City was implied to be where Mario’s carpenter work began.
Yoshi was either considered a cousin of the koopas or he’s an original dino creature.
Going off of what another comment said, dinosaurs may be considered dragons, but not vice versa. There’s the Yoshi(or Dragon) Coins in Super Mario World, which would imply that dinosaurs and dragons are interchangeable.
Toad caps were at one point considered to just be hats, but one Odyssey interview later and now the caps are just a part of their skull.
Of course, many of these “retcons” may have happened because of new developers inserting their own understanding of what Mario’s world is like. Not all Mario games are handled by the same team. Miyamoto once said that he envisions the Mario cast as a group of actors.
@@Mr_Pedro_Sombrero New York never actually made it into the games, only licensed non-canon media like the Super Show and out-of-universe dev interviews- and it was retconned as early as the early 90s, with Donkey Kong on GameBoy placing it on the same planet as the Mushroom Kingdom.
Toad caps being hats never made it into the games either, only again non-canon licensed media- the only thing that ever came close was an unused version of the Toad Conductor from Paper Mario 64 that, again, went unused.
Miyamoto's quote is taken out of context there- he says that he envisions the cast *like* a group of actors in that they can fill many roles- not that they *are* a group of actors.
Generally, the Mario world has stayed pretty consistent, with only a handful of retcons- and those didn't come from individual writers putting in their own understanding, but major changes that seem to come from Miyamoto and similar higher-ups.
@@cad4871 while much of what you say is true, I don’t see how Miyamoto and other higher-ups had any hand in the lore behind Mario RPG or Paper Mario, or it’s sequel, or even Mario Galaxy’s base ending. Square had much to do with Mario RPG’s development from my understanding, and Intelligent Systems the same for Paper Mario.
Koizumi had written the story for Galaxy, Miyamoto merely approved of it.
Miyamoto was heavily involved with all of the Mario RPGs and oversaw their stories.

@@Mr_Pedro_Sombrero What I was referring to with my Miyamoto comment was the Koopaling retcon, which was confirmed by Miyamoto himself, and the aforementioned New Donk change, which was a more quiet change of something that never made it into the games to begin with.

But there are also dinosaurs called dragons, like Yoshi or Plessie. In conclusion, the dragons that have Yoshi's face, like Plessie or Dorrie, are dinosaurs. The ones that don't are just dragons, not dinosaurs.

His theory’s just offer a different way of looking at things. He says that quite often. That’s why I believe his theory’s don’t need debunk videos like these.

A theory is supposed to be as infallible as possible, it is supposed to have as much support as possible. If it doesn’t, then it’s a bad theory. That’s why debunks are necessary.
MatPat’s slogan is just that - a slogan. It doesn’t change the fact that he presents his theories as ideas that could work. MatPat has a platform, and people are going to blindly believe what he says if they don’t find something debunking it. You don’t know what you’re talking about and how damaging his videos can be.

The olny "evil" Yoshi I can think of is Boshi from SMRPG and you mostly race with him
Yoshi was achually based off a Horse, you see The Creator of Mario (I can't spell his name) wanted Mario to ride a Horse and another person working (I also can't spell his name) there made Yoshi and put the sadle on his back because it would fit the enviroment and look much like the Koopa so it would look like it belong there.

MatPat seems to make some of his theories just for the fun of it or just to make a theory on a specific topic which can be detrimental because the answer to MatPat’s question is that Yoshi is a Yoshi and there is nothing more to it. Not even Nintendo has thought that hard about it.
personally, i was bothered by the clickbait-y title given to matpat's video, especially since what it was alluding to wasn't present in the video until the last minute or so.

The dragon vs dinausaur debate can ultimately be kinda ignored if you look at evidence via what word is used as dinausaur literaly means ancient dragon..... (Or something similar, im not fully sure but i know dragon is there)
Yoshis were originally designed to be related to the Koopa species, hence the lil vestigial shell used as a saddle, however on that one detail we can deduce that Yoshis and Koopas might be related species with a common ancestor, like wolves and foxes irl
No we can’t, since shells aren’t a part of their anatomy - as was discussed in the video.
Thing is, they may have been *originally* designed to be related to Koopas, that doesn't mean they *are* related to Koopas nowadays
From my experience with a lot of Matt Patrick game theories he legitimately has no clue what he's talking about a majority of the time. Take his Zelda theories where with the possible exceptions of his hookshot theory or the moon Theory suggesting that link should be pulling his arm out of his socket every time he uses his hookshot and that the Clock Town Clock Tower should be able to stop the Moon assuming the moon is light enough everyone of his Zelda theories have been completely wrong and showcases that he knows nothing about the series such as for example one of his priming piece of evidence to support breath of the wild taking place in the downfall timeline is saying the Tunica the Wilds cap has a yellow stripe even though it's not yellow it's just a lighter shade of green which is plainly visible to anyone who is in color blind and also shown whenever you die the color of the outfit.
Or his link is dead in Majora's Mask Theory which is blatantly debunked by the very existence of Twilight Princess not to mention the fact that stalfos are not created by people who die in The Lost Woods they are created by adults who get lost in the Lost Woods. Not to mention the hero shade literally looks nothing like a stalfos. He basically tries to make these theories and assuming that whoever is watching the video is either too stupid or too unwilling to play these games and raise counterpoints against him because it's clear he has no idea what he's talking about

About the koopa shells
It seams very inconsistent. They are seen on the dry bones as a part of there skeletal structure but they are removable in the game. It’s really weird
No actually. Dry Bones are still just wearing their shells. They have spines and ribcages underneath.

A Dragon is a Mythological Reptile or Dinosaur (Dinosaurs aren't Reptiles)
Dinosaurs are reptiles. “Reptile” is quite an archaic term by modern standards anyway.
I like to think that Yoshi's Both Dragon, Dinosaur, And Koopa And maybe the Yoshi species is a LONG running Ancestry line that Splited off to Dragons, Koopas, and Dorrie and Plessie. And the reason why Yoshi's Still exist is because Some Yoshi's didn't evolve into Dragons, Koopas, and Dinosaurs Like how Crocodillians still exist! Hope this theory makes kind of sense

It was the NES's Sprite Limit.
The NES can only display 8 sprite tiles per horizontal scan line.
Sprite Tiles are 8 by 8 pixel blocks that make up the main sprite.
For example SMB 1 Small Mario is 4 Sprite Tiles.
And the NES can also only display 64 entire Tiles on screen at once.
While it wouls be MORE then Doable, as a Bootleg version of Super Mario World does exist on the NES rhat does have Yoshi.
It would be really bad on the graphics side. As you would at best only be doubling the amount of Sprites you are rendering at all times. At worst it would be even more henious.
Nintendo likely could have fixed this with a custom built Cartidge, that would assist the NES with lifting those previous limits.
But simply put, Nintendo likely didn't want to.
SMB3 was already a massive 3 year project.
That may not sound bad but back then, an NES Game usually took around 5 months, at worst a whole year.
SMB3 was one of the longest development cycles of an official NES game. And Nintendo was likely not willing to do something that would assuradly raise the price of the game, and take much more development time.
As even with how big SMB3 was for an NES Game, there is still space in the cart for more data in different banks.
Of course, at the end of the day. I could still just be, completely wrong. I just remember it being about the graphics and logistics on the limited NES rather then space.

Yoshi was not considered for Super Mario Bros. 3, only Super Mario Bros. and then revived for Super Mario World.

While digging around for answers particular to Yoshis, I came to an interesting realization: Yoshis are often born with clothing. Baby Yoshis are always born with shoes, with some being born with shells (Yoshi's Story) and one being born with a pair of pants (PM:TTYD).
This definitely supports the idea that shells are more like clothing, but their origins are still a mystery. Considering that Yoshis are often _born_ with clothing, there must be _some_ suspension of logic for all of this to work. That seems to be a slight running theme when it comes to Mario lore. Oftentimes things just are a certain way with no existing explanation for how or why and that's simply how it is.
On another note, perhaps the whole "born with clothing" thing ties into the origins of babies in the Mario universe as a whole, as Mario and Luigi were brought by a stork and already had clothing.
Babies are created by the Stars when people make a wish for them before being delivered by the Storks. I think they probably make some clothes for the babies before delivery!
As for Yoshis being born with clothing, that is quite odd. Yoshis, who have been shown to at least in part reproduce asexually, without Storks or wishes. Not even Koopa Troopas are born with clothing.
My best guess is that it’s spirit magic creating the clothing. “Magic” might sound like a disappointing answer, but looking at the rest of the series it’s rather common. Power-Ups create or change people’s clothing all the time, Cappy fixes Mario’s hat and creates the Wedding Outfit and Captain’s Hat for him in Super Mario Odyssey, etc.

Magic makes sense honestly. It's possible that the clothes on Baby Yoshis are also the work of the Stars, as they seem to do the same for other babies anyway. This could potentially explain why the Yoshi's Story Yoshis were born with shells. They were the island's last hope, so perhaps they were properly equipped for adventure? Same line of thinking for why Mini-Yoshi was born with pants, being equipped for an adventure.
(Also, with Baby Yoshis being so capable at such early ages, it makes a lot of sense why they'd be given shoes from the get-go).
But why would they do this for Yoshis but not for Koopas? Well, it's actually very possible that they also do the same for Koopas, or at least _can_ do so with Koopas if they want to. Jr. Troopa for example doesn't have a shell but does have shoes. He could've gotten these shoes after-the-fact, but it's also possible he simply started off with shoes.
Speaking of Jr. Troopa, Koopas are also born from eggs. This means that Storks either deliver Baby Koopas as eggs or that Koopas lay eggs.

Mostly true, yeah. Bowser is around a year older than Mario and Luigi, with Peach and Yoshi being months younger than them.
Since Mario is currently ~30, Bowser is currently ~31. Donkey Kong the Third, on the other hand, is only a few years old. His father, Donkey Kong Jr., was a baby when Mario was already an adult. Keep in mind Yoshi’s Island DS is a time travel story. Baby DK was likely brought to the past temporarily.

Separate universe, same events! The Paper World is near-identical to the real world, having the same geography, inhabitants, history, events, etc.
The main difference is that the Paper World is Made of paper. This means that all of the Paper Mario games also happened to the real Mario while all of the real Mario games happened to also Paper Mario.

I think it was he claimed that he was gonna destroy the universe at some point. Also on the analogy, I meant to ask if you thought if he was in that power range. And also I’m pretty sure looking back at Super Paper Mario, he didn’t use particular weapons that would completely deplete the strength scaling. The only thing at the time worth notice were some heart artifacts that boosted his abilities if I’m correct. I understand if you have no idea what I just said as you probably need to be one of the people I’m talking about to understand a lot of the logic I’m using.

Character abilities are often misconstrued or taken out of context to make characters seem much more powerful than they actually are.
Interesting, but Matt Pat is still pretty entertaining, and let's face it, it would have been very unsatisfying for Matt Pat to say "we still don't know." I know his theories can be out there, but I think that's the appeal.

You’re incorrect. They aren’t normal sized humans, they’re abnormally tall (by our standards). Different Koopas have different sizes. Mario is on average around the same height as a Koopa. Bowser Jr. is consistently much smaller than Peach - they made him big in Super Mario Galaxy so he would be visible in the distance of some cutscenes.
Yes, New Donkers are human, but Mario is just as much a human as they are. Those advertisements are not canon, they do not depict New Donkers.
Nintendo absolutely intend for Mario to be 155cm. That’s his height in practically every game that has a ruler, it’s his character model height in most games and the height of his “actual size” statue. Mario is 155cm, New Donkers average about 10ft tall.
