@@owingsart Were the spheres all done with one color of paint and different amounts of water? I'm really curious because with watercolor you need other colors to make the shadows.
You pronunciation was spot on 😁 Hi Marty, hope you are well. These paints look pretty good. I love the colors and the opacity. Thanks for reviewing them. Take care my friend 😘
probably the creamiest of them all!!! i found them on Amazon but they cost $100 for the plastic box set of 12. Anybody knows if they're better priced if buy in Italy for example?
Hi Marty, this is a wonderful, very thoughtful review. I've seen some of your other videos too. You explain things very nicely and thoughtfully. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience. I like your art talks with Steve, the mind of watercolor as well. I've learnt a lot from you and Steve. Thanks!
Hi Marty! These gouache look swell! Thanks for the super detailed review! Haha, this makes me want to break out my gouache. I have the Windsor and Newton and the M.Graham brand. My mother has a handful of dried out Schmincke Gouache tubes. XD I am tempted to peel the tubes open and wet them to see if they’re still good.
I haven’t heard of these, (other than Steve Mitchell) just their watercolors. Personally they look beautiful, even when there is extra water, wow. I hope you find out what the extra bottle is for. If no one knows, James Gurney might. Look forward to enjoying anything you paint with them on Instagram. Take care and keep exploring.
Maimeri is high in the art market. Their papers are amazing and pretty much all they do, only thing is: is quite expensive. I guess all quality materials are.
Hi Essie - The pigment loads in these paints is extraordinarily high. These are well made and the pigments seem finely ground, because they mix and glaze so well. They are a bit expensive, but the good stuff is never cheap. Hope you are doing well my friend.
Owings Art Well, if you had a specific project, these would be worth it. I still cant get over how great they looked when you watered them down. Thanks Marty
@@owingsart Good morning Marty, I need to make a correction and apologies for the mistake. Got my wires crossed with Fabriano and Maimeri, here in Colombia there's only one store that sells their products and it tangled in my head. Maimeri is all about paints and Fabriano is all about paper. So I meant Fabriano. Both italian and still expensive but worth it :) Have a great day!
I watch your gouache videos and every now and then, I think maybe I should try it again. Maimeri makes watercolor paints under the label Maimeri blu. Sterling Edwards used to use this brand; but, I don't know if he still does. I think your pronunciation is pretty good. It is possible for me to go to one of the big box stores here in town and find gouache watercolor paint; but, it's not going to be this brand. So, a question that I have is: Which set would be better, if I want to give gouache another try? Do you think the Maimeri set that you used in this video would a good place to start; or, is there something different that you would recommend for somebody who's more or less just starting out. I've used gouache before and wasn't happy with the results; but, the more I see how you use it, the more I'm thinking the problem wasn't with the paint; but, it was with the way I was using it. I can't say for sure, I gave the tubes that I had away.
Hi Donna - Sorry I missed your question when I published this. I think you could use a less expensive gouache just to try it out and see what you think. - I like the Talens I just tried out and they are very inexpensive. I know what helped me was to view gouache more like oil paints, and less like watercolors, ever though gouache is a water-based medium. I know it sounds weird, but those techniques seem to help. Or, you can just use it like a opaque water color. Hope this helps! Marty
Thank you for your videos. I could only find cheaper gouache in my country, company name is Centrum and the gouache is terrible. I can not order better because my country is still closed from March.
Thanks for swatching these out in so many different ways. I just purchased their watercolor to try and it was such a fast drying sticky consistency that I am not sure I like it yet. However, these looked really buttery going down and seemed to spread wet on wet a bit better than some other gouache I have tried. Interesting set..Are they sending fixative to secure the paint? Were the paints powdery on the paper after they dried? (Like watercolors without enough binder sometimes they come off in a powder) did these paints seem dry on the paper when layered or something? In pictures it did not appear to be dry in fact like it soaked into the paper well? Very odd otherwise to include fixative though. Keep us posted...
I was under the impression that dried gouache rewets easily, so I'm wondering if that is true on a finished piece, and if the Fixative prevents that? I dont' have and gouache (well a small 5m. tube that came with a cheap watercolor set) so I'm not sure.
Hi There and thanks for the questions. These were powdery, but they do dry very flat - almost like a chalk, but not like a chalk... I know it's weird, but that's how these paints work. The paper has more to do with how the paints sink in than the paint itself. I was using good paper and it absorbed the paint very well. Hope that helps. Give gouache a try and see what you think. - Marty
Hey thanks for the shout out buddy. I do like the Maimeri gouache quite a bit. My top 5 are a hard group to compete in. All great!
Hi Steve - Yeah man, it's really tough, but I loved your list and I think Schmincke at the top was a perfect choice.
Best review ever ... couldn't ask for more. Thank you
That color selection of 8 makes me so happy, because there's a magenta and a cyan!!! YAY! :D
Hi Eve - Same here my friend.
I would love to see more people on youtube demonstrating gouache hint hint

The fixative is used to fix the pigments of your sketch below the painting. Thanks fo the review!
Gracias!
Those shaded balls tests were very mesmerizing. Great review, sir. Keep it up.
Ha! Thank you Ahmad. I have fun painting them.

There’s something soothing about your videos. These paints look good too!
Thank you very much. I hope not in a creepy way? I'm just a regular guy, so I suppose I come across sort of boring in a way. :-)
So true!
Owings Art never creepy!! 😂
@@GabrielleCarbonneau Whew! Thank you! :-)
Thanks for this. Like the way you did your swatches 🌺
Thank you very much.
Never heard of this brand before so thank you for reviewing them, they look really good.
Glad you like them!
Stunning paints! Thank you for the review, Marty, I am going to check into these...
Thank you Jo Anne.
Great review, as always, Marty! It was fun catching up the other day!
Awww, thanks Katie. Yes, it was awesome chatting to you my friend. Have a GREAT day!
I am surprised by how great these look! I'll be looking out for your sketches with them! Nice review!
Thanks for checking it out Zoe. Hoping you are doing great.
maybe you are to 'fix' your initial sketch to keep the graphite from smearing ? (with the fixative in the bottle)
Ahhhh, that's a good point and maybe that's exactly what it is.

Thanks for the comment and for watching.
I had a tube or two of their watercolor, nice stuff.
Tubes John? I think it's hard to go wrong with the country that brought us Michaleangelo and DaVinci.
Drool. YES I will buy it 😊 thanks for the video 😊
LOL - Let me know what you think Terrie.
Aw it’s always nice to see a video from you, thanks. Off to insta...
