He does it with his breathing, strings players wiggle their finger back and forth as they bow, singers vibrate their throat so you get that oh-a-oh-a-oh-a-oh-a on a note instead of just oooohh.

I played the oboe from junior high on in to high school. It was my mother’s wish. I wish I had kept up with it. She had visions of me being in an orchestra.
