Blake: You understand the application of color theory to Photoshop better than any one on RUclips, and you explain it better too. This is coming from a guy whose perception of color could be better. Thanks.
I thought I was the only one to throw out a bunch of color pickers and see what color adjustment sliders do :) Most videos are vague in how they try to explain color manipulation but this is best way to understand it.
@@f64Academy I did notice this tool behaves in an odd way. Sometimes it changes the K value when adjusting colors, making the image darker/lighter at the same time. Probably this was designed for printing adjustments so it takes into account how printers reproduce colors.
In my color printing days at National Geographic I used all these colors to help printing. That knowledge of color theory rally helped when I switched into the wonderful world of Photoshop.
Fire hose of information doesn't even begin to cover it. I will need to watch this video about ten times or so. Thank you Blake for creating such useful content full of valuable information.
Blake...when I first watched this, I was confused (and maybe a little bit intimidated). Having watched it a second time--with PS open to a landscape image--it all makes sense. As a former instructor in a corporate technical education setting, a key to assessing my own level of understanding of a topic is whether or not I'd feel comfortable teaching it to others. I think one more viewing of this fine video will give me that comfort.
Thank you Blake, you're the first person to give me hope. I'm red/green color blind. I've tried Enchroma glasses with no luck. Your color wheel illustration made me realize I may be able to develop a way to color grade a photo, to actually see a green tree, for the first time. Five percent of males have some degree of color deficiency. I think a program that simplified color grading, for at least one photo for us, might be a real "money maker".
I know right! I wish I could. I have studied the depths of Color Deficiencies but there are about 4 of them or something like that. That makes it hard to make predictable results for all kinds and I can't see what they see to unsee what they see to make something help them see what I see. Lol it makes my brain hurt a lil
Blake, this is the second Y.T. video (on color) of yours that I have watched. Soooo helpful. Clear instruction on exactly what I was wondering about. Thanks so much!
I have been using Selective Color for a long time and understood some of how it works. I now understand a lot more of how it works. Thanks, your neighbor in Kearney, Mo.
Just rewatched this and found it very informative. Most especailly the tip about toning down very bright areas and avoiding the tone compression that comes with curves - of course I had forgotten that
The idea of using the adjacent colors to intensify the chosen color is a new one to add to all the other color theory you have taught me. I couldn't help myself. I downloaded the actions before I watched the entire video. But I did watch the whole video. Can't wait to play with the actions and to figure out how to do the same things with Palette Effects.
Thanks, I appreciate it. This one was 4 months in the making. People seem to think these just make themselves, lol, nope. It takes a lot of work to make it seem this easy 🤣
@@f64Academy Regarding the Basic Color Theory section - would you be able to make your color graphic available? I would like to have that handy as a reference. Roughly 1:30 into the video.
Like all of the other great video's you publish, you demystified selective color for us. I was able to grasp it on the initial watch. Thank you, and for the bonus action !!
This goes very well with my experience in printing industry. And your color theory makes every sense of this video. Learnt a lot. Very great explanation
Hi I’m an illustrator, I use a few programs that I draw/paint in & generally PS to tweak colours, intensity etc. I’ve not used this though, what an awesome tool... I can see me using this more than any other adjustment, not only to get more intense colours but to create more muted tones where I need, in a much more elegant way than just adjusting saturation. So thanks, this was a great video.
Much appreciated Blake. Christmas really has come early this year with videos/actions such as this one, the new Dodging & Burning technique, fixing Highlight blowouts etc. You just keep coming up with new techniques that are significant improvements to editing from your devotion to color theory. For anyone that hasn't seen Blake's 'Photoshop 30 days to Mastery' course it is excellent value for money for the content it contains.
Sweet, that boom sound just heard was either my mind blown or a light bulb moment. Can't wait to play with this as many times what I have been doing in the past just did not give me the colors I wanted and would look un natural.
This is great. Just tested it out on a landscape. Very natural but better saturation. Some fall colors against pines really made the reds pop. Much better than the HSL.
Thanks, Blake, as always you are the guru of color! Guess I should have known but did not realize the colors on either side of a particular color on the color wheel can increase its intensity. Always learning!
Thanks Blake. As a relative newcomer/approaching intermediate, with Photoshop, and loving every second of it, your video tutorials have been very helpful...I am now going to delve into this whole area of color balancing in depth and will certainly get involved with Selective Color. Something I knew little about before watching this. Super useful and great to know the theory of how and why, so you actually understand what is happening. Great stuff. Already subscribed and thanks for the actions.
