What Bret said about Andre and the Free Birds is true. Andre didn't respect anyone who disrespected the business. The Free Birds had a brief run in the WWF circa 1984, and they already had a reputation for working hard, but "partying" even harder. Andre had been an Icon since his debut in 1972, and everyone respected Andre. Andre was fed up with, from his pov, their unprofessional conduct outside the ring, and told them to leave and not come back. They told him that he didn't have the authority to do that. Andre went straight to Vince and essentially said, "either they go or I do." They got the boot, courtesy of Andre the Giant.

An Owen Hart induction in the WWE Hall of Fame had always been a tricky one. Its been 25 years since Owen died from that tragic accident at Over the Edge 1999, I think the main reason why Mrs Hart refuses to have her late husband inducted is because she still has bad blood with the company and she fears the company may make a profit of using Owen's image for profit. I remember when Mark Henry was inducted into the Hall of Fame and he used his time to tearfully plead for Owen's induction. Where Bret Hart comes in, he's already a two time inductee, alongside his dad Stu, Jim The Anvil Neidhart, British Bulldog so far. Owen's induction is long overdue, its not for the company, its for the fans, the fans want Owen to be immortalized in the WWE Hall of Fame where he rightfully belongs. If money is the fear, how about any money that generated from the use of Owen's image of any kind should go towards that Foundation set up by Mrs Hart in Owen's name. Just a thought.

I watched that Dark Side of the Ring doc about Owen, his widow has every right to be furious with WWE for what happened to Owen. At the end of the day, it was a terrible accident, but it never should’ve happened. It was the saddest day in wrestling history imo. I understand her position not wanting Owen to be associated with WWE in any way, I can’t imagine her grief, but I don’t agree with her in not allowing Owen’s career to be celebrated. If she’s unable to forgive, then that’s all there is. Nothing you can do about it.

Owen Hart will never be truly celebrated no matter what AEW or any other promotion does to promote him, because at the end of the day he will always be remembered as the WWE Wrestler for life no matter how much people want to disassociate him.
Owen Hart at present is only known as the guy who tragically passed away in the ring rather than the wrestler he was, its a shame because Martha Hart have been holding back his legacy as she is still unforgiving for the incident even after years which is justified but at this point is hurting Owen's legacy.
The day Martha Hart make amends and forgives WWE and actually let's WWE use Owen Hart to promote and maintain his legacy will be the day when Owen Hart legacy will truly be celebrated, because half of the legacy and all assets of him lies at the hands of WWE. Letting WWE truly honour Owen Hart legacy like they were supposed to do years ago and making them do the right thing and corrector wrongs.
Until and unless the dark cloud surrounding Owen is gone his tragedy will remember rather than his legacy. That dark cloud needs to go for that Martha's forgiveness to WWE is a must.

    • @ChrisJericho22
      @ChrisJericho22 4 месяца назад +3

@@sit2go Owen Hart's legacy is not truly celebrated, most fans still remembers him only as the guy who tragically passed away in the ring. All the people responsible for his death are gone from WWE. This is right moment for Martha Hart and WWE to reconcile and do the right thing, that is remove the dark cloud surrounding Owen's Hart legacy and career, until and unless Martha forgives WWE, the tragedy is the only thing people will be talking about, Yes, even if Martha forgives WWE their will be people who will still talk about his death but majority of the people will try to look for different way to celebrate his career rather than the way he passed away. Forgiveness is hard but if Martha doesn't do that no matter how many tournaments or legacy are held for Owen Hart, he will be forgotten by next generation and will be remembered as the guy who passed away in the ring. 90% of his legacy still lies with WWE and young people can only know of his greatness, if the legacy is shared by WWE themselves and for that to happen Martha needs to forgive, her bitterness will one day be the end of Owen's legacy death, and the legacy of his death is more worst then him passing away.

This interview was in 2016. The Hart Foundation was inducted in the WWE HOF in 2019. Bret always maintains a sincere manner. Even when expressing his opinions, he gives clear reasons for them. Martha said that she would "never let a company I held responsible for Owen's death try to honor him, especially with a fake HOF that doesn't exist." She meant "fake HOF" because it's not a physical HOF. There are other HOFs apart from WWE that could induct Owen like the National Wrestling HOF. @@kidwaryodproduction I agree with each and every H.O.F. possessing flaws that could be improved upon/removed/even engrained into the foundations on which they've been built..however - of all these Hall of Fames - clearly none are perfect - but in life you very seldomly come across anything - wether physical or intangible or corrupt or weighed down beauracraticly if I were to pick which I believe is the most respectable and carries the most credibility - I think the basketball Hall of Fame has to be #1 and I believe by quite a wide..WIDE - very wide margin - in my opinion leaps and bounds above and beyond those that would vie for second place..
I believe an absolutely integral piece of making it so is the fact that it is clearly stated AND is ALWAYS making sure the distinction of it being a - or THEE rather - it being The BASKETBALL Hall of Fame rather than the "NBA Hall of Fame" or a "Basketball Hall of Fame..created by the NBA" is probably the most important factor that lends itself to the respect and credibility it has created and maintained for itself and I think is a shame that it is overshadowed by the MLB and the NFL halls of fame respectively due to either it not being in the news cycles as much - which is a shame because those two it seems only recieve the notoriety BECAUSE of the constant controversies they find themselves in on an almost annual basis..which is a shame because it's almost as if the incompetence and scandalous lauded behavior contributes in them getting rewarded with more publicity over those - or on this subject - the one that deserves it for it's respectability..
Also I believe it treats its members - wether veterans or media or coaches or any other category - with the largest "say" of them also..I mean it isn't ENTIRELY ran by those because then it would just into a yearly popularity contest of those already in..I do feel they do hold a pretty close to the perfect amount of respect/power that grants them the ability to hold the line - gatekeeping it's entrance enough so as to maintain it's credibility - but with enough of a checks and balances system so that a person with a checkered or disdained personal life cannot be held out of it - mostly because of journalistic integrity(i know..right?? Thought it went extinct too lol) willing to go to bat on behalf of players who were Hall of Fame on the court but "Falls of Shame" off of it.. which results in deserving players who were hated upon by their peers don't pay the price from "an account" on their play on the hardwood - for bills accumulated off of it..
Last thing: I absolutely love how you can be initiated multiple times due to each induction being categorized into the several varying avenues available to each potential inductee..
Varying from but not limited to:
      Amateur/High School/College/Olympic/GoodWill Games/Professional(NBA)/Professional(overseas/non-NBA)
As Players/Coaches/Executive/Media(both broadcasting and editorial and now digital media)
      For a potential inductees :
      - play
      - records
      - talent (short career perhaps marred by injuries or disaster or other factors - possibly resulting in an unworldly peak that was cut short(just as an example)
      - longevity/cumulative stats
      - effect upon winning(as either player coach gm executive owner etc. or two or three or all)
      - ambassadors of the game(perfect representatives of sportsmanship/the growth and spread of the game)
      - major contributions to evolvement of the game through a number of different ways both tangible and intangible - wether from customizations of the hardware(playing surface/balls/backboard and rim/arenas/shoes(and the intangibles such as but not limited to): rules/schedules/expansions etc..
      - and my personal favorite..or most interesting to me perhaps is better description is OFFICIALS/REFEREES
As I believe that shining a light on this darkest aspect of sports - especially THIS one - can only help advance the advancement of quality of the game that can be provided to making it as equal and removing as much human error as possible...

Bret dodged the point about Booker T only really holding the second place title at the time. It's also hard to believe Bret's claim that whoever the WWE's top guys were since the 80s was decided completely on pop-based merit. We KNOW that's not true, even for white stars.
Backstage politics have always been in a thing and even back in the 80s and early 90s stars like Hogan infamously held down some who were getting pops that rivaled his, like Jake Roberts. He even interfered with Bret's time at the top which Bret has complained about in the past even though now he's claiming it's always been about merit in order to handwave away any notions of bias against black champions.

I generally agreed with what Bret was saying here except for two points. While the Freebirds didn't do anything in the WWE there was no need to discount their careers as whole. They drew tons of money and crowds all across the south in their heyday and laid the foundation for every cool heel group that came afterwards. I also find comparing the Hart Foundation's importance to that of the 4 Horsemen to be slightly laughable. That's not to tale anything away from the Hart Foundation but they are not the 4 Horsemen.

He and Jimmy Garvin had a great rivalry in the Montreal territory that involved the father of the Rougeaus.

The interview took place in 2016. I almost missed that note. Plus the Hart Foundation were inducted in the HOF shortly after Jim's death. When WWE announced that they were announcing the Foundation's induction, I kind of wondered if Jim's death might have played a factor. I could be dead wrong about that--no pun intended--but if that was even partially the case, that's really a sad thought.
