- It's almost the same spec with the YM2608 sound chip (similar to the SEGA Genesis sound chip). Also it's used Korg DDD-1 resampled in 8bit/16khz for the rhythm track.

Thank you for all Streets of Rage OST and Beyond Oasis OST. My all time favorite works of your skills. Mystical music on Beyond oasis 1000% nailed it, Streets/City scape music for streets of rage 1000% Nailed. Still to this day i hear your sound in my head :)
Especially your Street Rage 1 game had some really good city scape sounds, something that DJ's these days play in clubs lol.

there should be, Untold games had the option for FM OST and EO5 had the FM added later as a DLC, so i see no reason for X to not have the classic vibe with FM soundtrack

The thing that I appreciate about this arrangement is that it sounds very much like SQ and SQ2 rather than SQ3, kinda like how the SSQ new song arrangements (especially SSQ2's) were. Really gives it an old-school and nostalgic feel harking back to the series' origins, and that in my opinion is great to have as a send-off for when the series leaves the Nintendo DS and 3DS family for good.
Edit: Now that I listen to it more, I think it's the instrumentation of the first two SQ games, with the complexity of SQ3... if that makes any sense. A harmonious cross of the series up to this point - mainly because I'm comparing it to the way SQ5's FM Synth was composed, which was very much on the side of SQ3 (and said to be based mainly on the YM2151).
Well call me impressed! This sounds pretty legit to my ears.
Nothing better than FM synth, except for discovering Yuzo Koshiro has his own channel. Thank you for making such amazing music all these years!
I really enjoy this. I love the etrian odyssey games and miss having fm synth in the later ones. I would pay for a "classic" mode for music in nexus, no problem.

Best Battle theme in the series
I love Etrian oddysey and Wangan midnight music made by Yuzu Koshiro. Even in 2020 it's aged very well and pure joy to listen.

Serious question, Koshiro San if you submitted any FM synthesizer music to your employer , would it be considered old hat. Is this FM type only given if the music director ask for "classic sound"?

Thanks but it would be hard and takes time. Those scores are made suitable for many real instruments like band, percussion, strings , woodwinds, and brasses. That's too much more things for one or two sound chips. I guess it needs a lot of rearrangement to make it better FM soundtrack.

that’s good to keep in mind. it might not make sense to make an fm track like you would an orchestrated track…maybe I’m approaching my own work the wrong way…
