- A Buddhist monastery is facing closure in the Russian Urals. The land on which the temple sits belongs to a company who want to mine iron ore instead.
If the mining goes ahead, it could bring jobs to the area. But the monks are refusing to leave. Public opinion is split over the issue.

What that little temple offers on the summit of that mountain is way more valuable than all the ore that can be mined out of it.
Its not the temple, but the teaching that is important. Dont get attached to the place or the symbol, get attached to Buddha, Sangha and Dhamma. Become a temple yourself and let the light burn inside you.
Don't get attached to anything, because attachment is dukka.

@@amitkumar-sz6ze that is not the Middle Way, which is what we are taught in Buddhism. It means that if your house is destroyed you should not lament, it does not mean you should go to extremes just to prove a point.

I watch this video once or twice a week just to listen to the lama and see the actual practice of Buddhism. As stated the 'sect' is not officially sanctioned by any authority and how perfect is that?! You don't need a license to practice. You don't need anyone's approval or 'say so' to explore the inner self. I am regularly uplifted by this example of free thinking and community.

Money may help you and your family to live for 5, 10 or 20 years but Buddhism and the Buddha's teaching may help you and people around the world to live hundreds of years. Money is not the ultimate happiness but Buddhism teaches us to find peace, the ultimate happiness. For sake of creating happiness, please spare that holy site. So people there will continue to enjoy their true happiness. Peace to everyone.
First rule of Buddha Club: Don't fight. If they must move, they move happily. Everything is impermanent. Also, seeing the "monk" lighting up a pipe shows they do not uphold the proper precepts (rules of conduct/morality) and so their Dharma Protectors have fled. The precepts are the foundation of the buddhist practice.

Definitely completely very true indeed. That's exactly a very important Buddhist's teaching. Nothing, even that Buddhist temple will last forever. So won't we. Sooner or later we will go. With this thought, the temple story is just another opportunity for us once again to remind ourselves not to attach with earthly or material things. Fault attachment is what makes reincarnation continues which is not what Buddism aims for.
Buddhism aims to end suffering, and attain enlightment. Living in this earthly realm is suffering. And nothing here really belongs to us, not even our own physical bodies. Nothing here we can take with when we die, except goods and bads. Buddha showed us the path to the permanent place, we should waste no more time and begin to work real hard to follow that path to the very end.
Indian culture is so beautiful.. it spreads by its own virtue.. long live this land of spirituality.. guys please once visit India. Also visit Bodh Gaya.

In sansara everything can be vashied, so we should understand the nature and we have to move on, hope the monks will receive the fair decisions from government 💖
I understand the mountain has some minerals.. but I'm sure Russia is both rich and kind enough to spare this one.. If not hopefully at least help them relocate.. prayers and love from an Indian Hindu..
Let's all of us Buddhists pile together and pay a fund to the town to keep the monastery intact.

I am new to Buddhism. Even though this monastery is not registered to be considered a genuine one, it has been in existence for some 20 years. I do not know Russian law well, but they could appeal to the Russian Lama ( who is under the Dalai Lama) for recognition as part of the Russian Sangha. Buddhism is one of the recognized main religions in Russia. These people are genuine practitioners. I will pray for them. I also honor Mother Earth and Father Sky. The mountain is also sacred. Mountains generally are considered sacred places. It is a beautiful place to meditate, to heal, and to recuperate. To destroy it is a shame. May this small Buddhist community become the center and a blessing for the people who live in the nearby town.

thorny issue, espec. for me as a Buddhist.
1. Relocate. Buddhism teaches that one should not be attached to anything. (Hey, you can go to Kalmykia!)
2. The Russian government should help this Buddhist community relocate.
3. Westerners who are thinking of using this to belabor Russia for her lack of human rights should hold a mirror up to themselves. The US and UK have done many things at least just as bad. (I'm not saying the Russian government hasn't done anything bad.)
The ancient buddhist monks, move from place to place all the time,they do not have fix abode. Their only possession is the begging bowl and the robes .
i hope the best for these Buddhist people. This people should be able to have the freedom to carry out their religious practice as desired whenever and wherever they want. Thank you for creating awareness on the issue

Buddha’s teaching is about destroying attachment. If they fight for it, means they failed to destroy it and they’ll just suffer from the lost and those ignorants will have a bad interpretation to Buddhism. I hope they can live peacefully somewhere. And i found it odd to see the monk was smoking.

It's not so simple. If it was then the Buddha would have simply kept the teachings to himself. Buddhists often make sacrifices. Struggle and resistance is one type of sacrifice, especially if it is done with the aim of compassion.
The temple is not important. The teaching of Buddha is. Please don't fall into the same error as the Christians who knew in the beginning that the Kingdom of God and Christ which is the same as the Buddha nature is not in temples, holy mountains holy cities or churches but inside of each individual. They are much better not be hidden away from society but shine their light to the people in darkness. They can meditate anywhere and fellowship anywhere. they should let it go as the Buddha said: "No attachment"'.. Let it go. Jesus said the same thing "do not resist an evil person, if they take your coat, give them your shirt too". This is the perfect opportunity to live the the pure Buddhism/Christianity and not to become just another religious fluke.
