    You need to finish back up RMR-141 after the 86 as it kills and prevents future mold build up by putting a protective barrier and it penetrates the wood better.

    rmr-86 works well but you should be applying antimicrobial afterwards and finding whatever the ventilation issue is or it will just grow back. Also when stapling of baffles do not shove them all the way down into bird block pull back approximately 3 in. Then staple also make sure you can see daylight coming in through bird block or insulation is too tight against Eve.

    • @BorsellinoHomeServices
      @BorsellinoHomeServices  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the tip. When I installed the baffles they are just over the exterior wall into the soffit. My house has 20" overhangs so there's lots of space between them and the facia so I know they aren't blocked.

    BTW as my late great Master Handyman Glen Haege used to always say on the radio, "you can't add insulation without ventilation". In other words, if you're going to put in even more R-factor, you need to add more air intakes and vents to help keep the attic cool

      yeah the house has soffit and ridge vents but i think that they under-engineer them both in the factory. I have considered adding gable vents but then you run into issues where they can negate the existing vents

      There's soffit and ridge vents. If you have those, you're not supposed to have any other vents. But obviously the ventilation isn't enough. I've thought about putting in a gable vent with a fan. My dad has one that is hooked to a thermostat in his house. Gets the heat and humidity out of the attic in the summer, which I am thinking is a big part of the problem

I added more insulation and that helped this winter. I want to add an attic fan next

    • @whitetrashandhellbound6905
      @whitetrashandhellbound6905 Год назад +4

      The problem is the ridge vent install. Sooo many "Roofers" will Squash the Fiber Product risge vent and then it is virtually useless. You need to use 2.5-3" nails through your Ridge Cap to no Squash the Fiber Vent. Or, if they used the Harder Plastic ridge vent the it could be clogged with Leaves, Dirt, Bug Nests, etc. Also, continuing the attic vents ALL THE WAY to your ridge vent in each cavity can help with adequate air flow. Are you ridge vents installed without obstruction at the soffit end. I see Insulators that "Blow" the attics blow the fiberglass right down the vents (Baffles) and not care about it, clogging the vent (Baffle) itself. Alot of contractors have the "It's not my house" attitude, not all contractors. But one bad apple... anyway, hope it all works put for you.

      If it is bleach, the answer is Y E S of course; that product is a bit of a scam;
      BUT, bleach does not kill the root of mold in porous surfaces,like wood or stucco,it
      just clears the COLOR of the visible part at the surface;
      DO NOT blow on the mold with any kind of sprayer that agitates the air, ,it needs to be very softly done, very slowly!!
      ---- the mold SPORES are so light and loose, they can even travel in SMOKE from a fire, for thousands of miles, it has been found way out in another country( internet has that...);
      mold will release its spores into the air if you just wave your HAND near it!!! Mold loves that,that is the way it SPREADS, it's its technique, otherwise it will just saty there in the HUMIDITY stain;
      another GOOD way is to WIPE it off with RAGS and HOT WATER, doing it extremely S L O W ... i wear proper masks and a motorcycle helmet and disposable gown when i do it;
      A way better than bleach, is to use regular 3% Hydrogen Peroxide; that KILLS MOLD, read up on it,B E F O R E you do anything; they sell spray bottles with it ,in a half-gell form , very convenient for overhead areas,it clings on, fizzes and kills mold;
      but if the roof leak was not FIXED, it will come back if it is a porous surface, you'd need a BIOCIDE then (pro stuff..); need ventilation too.

      last time I was up there a few months ago adding more insulation it was great. I've been told though that this product just gets rid of the stains and there's another product that further kills the mold. Although this really seemed to do the trick

    Whats sad is if you google mold killer this product comes up highly reccomended. Yet now you say its a stain remover. I bought a gal. to kill mold on basement block walls.

      You should also buy the RMR-141 to apply afterword's to kill the mold. It's mentioned in the instructions.

      Yeah I was misled too. I was telling everyone it was a mold killer and the keyboard warriors came to my rescue and enlightened me that I was wrong and this is only a stain remover. I think it's in the directions but I missed it and I think RMRs ad's are misleading

    I want to chime in as a professional. Do not use this as your process. You need to remove mold first..... RMR is only a stain remover. Removal takes physical abrasion with wire brushes, sanders, meadia blaster and or hepa vacuums. This just bleaches the surface. If you took a lift tape sample of this area as well as an air quality test it would prove that mold is still in the area. Words of wisdom, seek professional help and someone with an AMRT Certification.

      I asked a professional and he said that rmr-86(normal version not pro) is a good home solution for mold like this. It's more for staining but it does kill mold as well, as the active ingredient in it, which is the same as bleach, does kill mold. Not as effective as other chemicals but it does. Use proper protection and ventilation as it is a toxic chemical of course.
      Nothing beats having a professional come in and properly treat it and remove it, but at least based on what I have (which isn't as bad as this attic) rm-86, is an adequate home solution. At least according to the professional I asked about home solutions so idk I think it can still be considered
