Proof that the most important aspect in all of hitting is timing. Mechanics don’t matter if it isn’t conducive to how YOUR BODY times the pitch.
Late
AbsoDAMNlutely!!
@@jamesrobertson7100W reply
Timing is everything. Preach bro.
Thats the beauty of baseball, everyone has different things that work for them and stuff that doesnt work for them
That’s why i love the sport
I wish more coaches understood this instead of trying to get everyone to have the exact mechanics they think are correct (btw every coach has a different idea of what’s correct).
Jose Bautista is the most notable for me when adding the leg kick in Toronto. That + launch angle changed his career
Duran should be an all star. If he isn’t there is a problem MLB.
Edit: I MADE THIS BEFORE THE ROSTERS WERE RELEASED.
He isn’t
It's a popularity contest. Just the truth.
@@ChiefIguana Yea and that’s what sucks. He should be the Red Sox representative.
he’ll still prolly make it the red sox are a big team and he deserves it anyway
They should make the fan vote count less for allstars then add one for the hr derby
Aaron judges leg kick is immaculate
😐
Fr. It’s like a dead leg kick
And my day is ruined
This proves that the leg kick, whether it is kicked or not, is all about timing. We do what we do and not what we think (we do)!
As a Tigers fan I’m pleased with Colt Keith
As a reds fan, I’m not pleased with Carson spiers
@@AmtrakCSXFan457Every team has that one pitcher that causes a rise in heart rate, for me it is Kenta Maeda or Joey Wentz
The rangers have pitchers im feel disappointed in, but it was only last year we had one that describes what you mean
I am so glad for my health, Aroldis Chapman is gone
@@SavageReeses
@@SavageReesesFr Kenta Maeda FINALLY got moved to the bullpen
Wait he did?
I saw Duran yesterday and he hit 4 singles in one game, incredible hitter
Proof that how you swing defines the best possible approach for you as a hitter. Hitting is not a one size fits all thing. The perfect swing for one person and another can look completely different.
The leg kick is fire
Interesting! Changed the timing which allows the barrel of the bat to be more precise
Colt keith in July: 17 for 46, 8 walks, 1 double, 2 triples, 5 homers. Comes out to .370 ba, .463 obp, 1.267 ops, 13 rbis, and 14 runs scored. Hes starting to dominate
“ one man’s trash, is another man’s treasure “
Hit that Adam Dunn pose on him in the last clip
ken griffey jr too
Yep. That's who I thought of when I saw the thumbnail. Classic Adam Dunn. That dude hit bombs 💣
Duran is such a joy to watch!
Colt Keith also added a scissor kick with his back leg based on the clips shown
It's what I've noticed from Ohtani, is that his hip rotation, is what the leg kick is supposed to do, but keeps him stable and focused on the pitch.
I never taught my players to use a leg kick, but if I was at the MLB level, I wouldn't advise them as much as encourage the work with them on trying different things when things aren't working, my opinion is that the leg kick is a problem for more strikeouts,
Duran no kick or kick or toe tap doesn't matter kid is going to be insane and only get better!
Judge leg kicks, shohei toe taps. Both hit the ball hard.
This is an example of how my brother tells me my mechanics are wrong and some things help some things make it worse, but we just have different swings and see the ball and swing differently.
Duran is one of the most underrated mlb players rn
The leg kick can help you with timing. If you match it with about the time of the release it takes the same amount of time for your foot to come down, you be set, and the ball be in the swing zone.
What you see with both is that the change locked in their mechanics and allows them to get their hands working behind their hips, which always produces more power.
Of course there is a timing element as well , but it all works together.
When you are out of time,
Your mechanics are not locked in like they should be
Toe tap is where it’s at. Hitting is all about timing and getting that front foot down before you can. Swing and hit
Profar did the same, went to train over the winter with both Tatis Sr and Jr. They suggested a bit of a leg kick, and now he's an Allstar.
Duran went to be the All Star Game MVP with his game deciding Homer.
Toe tap is the best. Like, it makes you so anxious about when the ball is thrown, so you are pretty much as concentrated as possible.
Jurikson Profar added a leg kick this season and he's exploded
A lot of people think that a leg kick is just for power, even though it may give u a little bit more, it is more used for a timing thing, and preference
Baseball is such a fun sport
High Leg kick can make or break a swing. A high leg kick can be ideal for batters that keep their bat completely still in a certain position before the initiation of the launch of a swing. It will allow you to be already in motion to dictate which direction you will be setting your swing in. Eliminating the high leg kick or "low leg kick" will allow more pop typically. As biogenetically speaking a hitter is planting the leading foot way quicker than with a high leg kick. Example,
Seattle Mariners ARod high leg kick= 320-340 BA & 30-35 HRs
Low leg kick ARod rangers and Yankees=290-310 BA 35-50 HRs.
Gleyber Torres needs to eliminate that high leg kick with the toe tap. Way too much going on there pre pitch arrival.
On the contrary to Gleyber doing "too much", not doing anything is bad also. Peep how Stanton lays his bat flat on his shoulder pre pitch. He then has to lift the bat from his shoulder to set the launch. Adding an additional step pre launch. Just lifting his bat 2 inches up or completely away from his shoulder would reduce his strikeouts by at least 30 to 40 less. There must be a balance with everything you are doing pre pitch and as the pitch comes 🤷🏾♂️
Time and feel is a huge thing when making these changes.
That's why I was ignoring some hitting coach, the moment I did it my way it was like if I was back in the park with friends
baseball is amazing
Good observation, dude
i was there looking forward to duran going off like he did at the beginning of the season i was bummed watching the strike outs pile up
I never could lift that front leg. The toe tap worked great. My coaches didn't like it, but you gotta do what feels right.
It’s as if timing and being comfortable has a lot to do with hitting and getting those two things solves a lot of issues
I love Colt Keith he is the future
Good intel fozzy
Colt Keith signed an Atlanta Braves style contract before the year started, his career wasn't in any jeapordy. But awesome to see two young players make adjustments to find success, and they're the opposite of one another
Duran has become an asset for sure.
in july Keith is batting .328 with 6 homeruns and a 1.102 ops.
Durran just won asg mvp as im watching this 😯
Actually Ohtani also did the same: he came into MLB with a leg kick but decided to change it. He changed it to a twisting toe tap… and he’s been destroying every ballpark ever since!
The most revealing part in this video clip is location. The balls that got hit hard were pitches that got too much of the plate. The swings and misses were on some nasty pitches.
I'm 15u and play for five Star and had a decent sized leg kick. I went 2-12 my first tournament and was really upset. The one hit I had was with a no stride two-strike approach and I hit it left center. I practiced with almost no leg kick at all the week prior to my second tournament and then only got out once with every hit I had going to the fence. (Fence was 410' center) It was a great adjustment that I made and I'm glad I did😅
Lmao when I was a kid I had the leg kick and when I went to competitve travel ball I went with the tap. It’s so weird how it helps one way or another for each person
I play slow pitch and everyone on my team told me I had to do a little leg kick when I hit (I am 40 and haven't played since high school).
It turned me into one of those contact hitters. So I went back to no leg kick and now I crush nothing but bombs. Everyone is different.
Fire leg kick
Toe-tap crew rise up
Do a video of Gleyber Torres with and w/out leg kick it drives me crazy 😂
I personally don’t do leg kicks they make me swing very bad
And he started rocking his Jordan 1s more.
That’s why Cal Ripken Jr was so successful when he found himself having a weakness exposed regularly he’d change something in his stance to account for it
sometimes one small change can make a big difference. someone 1900s-2024
Honestly, I saw Colt Keith the beginning of the season and I thought he needed to go down to Toledo. Then, all of a sudden, he started hitting.
Colt Keith was in the first month of his MLB career, it didn’t “save” his career but he is absolutely raking since the slump ended
Javier Baez is satisfied with his Gauranteed Contract so he has no incentive to try a new Batting Stance. That is of course until the year that Contract runs out
when’s the recap coming out?
I am a toe tap person. It's what I use when practicing slow pitch.
As a mariners fan I wish my players were hitting above .250
Its all about making adjustments
Colt Keith has been one of the best players since he fixed his leg kick. Not even exaggerating
“The hitter has to fit the style not the other way around.” - The science of hitting
A month later: both players drop their batting average to 0.210 and are forced to go back to the original. 😂
What about Miguel Amaya of the cubs
Everyone’s swing is different and what works for someone may not work for another. People have different timing and how well they can see the ball. The speed of a swing won’t help anybody who can’t see the ball and people visualize and mechanically have different movements. Do what feels comfortable for you and slowly work on it.
YOU NEED A TENNIS RACKET 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️
Colt Kieth went to my school
Bro also added a new word to his vocabulary
The world is a mess
Keith stopped swinging at changeups down as well.
It's not the big leg kick. It's stepping out or in to get the barrel of the bat in the zone he thinks the pitch will be in. Ya it's informed guessing to a point. It's David Ortiz informed. He made the same change in late May of 2013. Look for a certain pitch during every at bat based on the individual pitcher in a certain third of the zone. Go back and watch his film.

Sean manea did the same thing
The 22 year old rookie who just signed a massive extension was not in danger of losing his career
Duran got snubbed from the all star game, fuzzy won’t pin this and I’m probably right
Well its not 😂😂 Kwan, Soto, and Judge have the best stats. Why take the best hitting outfield and put a strikeout machine as a starter. He didnt get snubbed, he will be a reserve.

This illustrates the problem with, "do it this way", teaching. I have never understood how a leg kick can possibly work. That's because it can't work for me. All these teachers have good little nuggets BUT, none of those nuggets work for everybody. The point is, listen to them but, in the end, listen to your gut.
❤❤❤❤❤
Can someone now tell gleybar Torres to settle on one now 😒
Colt is a rookie I wouldn’t say he saved his career, he was gonna be fine
Hitting is so weird. How many other sports has as many people getting all the way to the pros but are still tweaking and trying to perfect their technique? Hitting is one of, if not the hardest thing to do in sports. It takes years on end of making the smallest of adjustments and tweaks to your swing to find what works best for you. Then it takes almost as long to training muscle memory so you are able to do it on a consistent basis in games.
Jurickison Profar?
YES SIR
colt Keith is a rookie bro, I understand he was one of the worst hitters in baseball at the beginning the season, but he's still learning about his career, not already trying to save it.
Striking out looking has nothing to do with a leg kick or no leg kick lol
I used to leg kick and i sucked and now I toe tap and I am way better
They're both young so I doubt it saved their careers as you put it. They have tons of potential. It would be different if the player was 35 and declining but these 2 are kids. Isn't colt Keith a high ranking prospect?? Or he was at least 😂😂
didn’t baez ruin his career with a leg kick
As a Red Sox fan I am happy about this change he got snubbed of the all star game. Fuzzy please pin this I watch your recaps everyday and I love your baseball content you are my Idol
Players and coaches will do the right thing, happened with Gurriel Jr last year
I agree that Duran got snubbed, I’m also a Sox fan
God And Jesus Will Always Love You.
i swear baseball is the most superstitious sport there is 😂😂
It’s all about finding what works for you. One person’s batting form isn’t gonna work for everyone.
I’d be very careful before trusting a video like this… the first red flag was using batting average (worst stat in sports) and HRs as a way of determining hitter progress. Duran is hitting the ball barely harder than he was last year and his contact stats are nearly identical too. I’d chalk his turnaround more up to luck along with slightly better plate discipline. I don’t know anything Keith but nothing suggests to me that he’s a guy who has made some epiphany at the plate either. He hits the ball on the ground a ton and a has an average to below average hard hit rate. The dude is also a rookie so any variance can be chalked up to low sample size and not some magical batting stance change.
"saved his career"? hes 22....
Honestly, baseball players are the most superstitious players of any sport
Repent before it’s to late Jesus loves you
