Typos I can tolerate, especially if there is not a lot of good fanfic and it's still understandable. I always just chalk it up to them not being native English speakers, and well, my first fanfics terrify ME, not because of what I wrote, but because there are so many typos I can't really understand what it is I tried to write.
What really gets me is formatting. If I see that there never is a space after a dot or a comma, or that the text is one big block (either by having no new lines, or just new line and nothing more to show new paragraph like a tab or second new line), I'm clicking out of it. It genuinely gives me headaches.

first one is the easiest to access on my shelf because my brother likes to "borrow" my books and I have learned from tough experience that he will absolutely DESTROY the book.
    second one is for me.
third one is the one that I lend to my friends so they don't all have to buy copies as well :)

I stop reading in the middle of pages. Because if I keep going to the end of the chapter it will end at a point that will make me want to read more. I do the same thing with TV shows. I stop at a low stakes moment. Bc if I don't I will be up literally all night going "OK just one more I'll go to bed after this one"
I also dog ear my pages because I'm not a snob and a dogearred book is a sign of a well loved and many times read book. I've been a reader my entire life (I have a plaque in my elematary school library for getting the most accelerated reader points) and I've always dog eared my books so I'm not about to change now.

I don't read the ending first but sometimes it would have really saved me unnecessary frustration and head aches. It started so good and ended with me being traumatized. One book ended with fl death and the other book changed totally towards the end and made you realise that the sweet male lead turns out to be one of the most disgusting human beings with no empathy. So I kinda admire people who can enjoy books even with spoilers.

Copy one: just an average, maybe slightly nicer version of the book. This is the one I will take on filed trips, or holidays. This is also the one I will let you borrow if you see I have the book and wanna read it.
Copy two: this is the folio society version. It’s very nice, and well made, and this is the one I will NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES LET YOU BORROW!
Copy three: this one js interactive/ has pictures. This is the one I’ll read to my little brother or other kids. It has bright, bold colours and is very nicely illustrated. You can borrow this copy, but I am watching you like a hawk!
So that’s why I have three copies of lots of books 😅😊

I‘ve got two fingers halfway down. One for stopping in the middle of the page, the only way I do this is when the chapters are extremely long and I‘m not awake enough to get to the end of the chapter, and there is actually an obvious break in the story - like a time skip, focus on a new place or character or something like that. The other finger is for the fanfictions, I hate ffs that have a lot misspelling, however a couple of years with extremely boring math classes have taught me to endure it (for some time I actually had a hardcover book on my desk that I would randomly grab it and read, but this teacher has known me for years and knew that I did all the assignments and still participated a lot - I later switched to Wattpad because I got a new teacher and didn’t want to look like I didn’t care about class this obviously xD)

  • @jiyatuber4170
    @jiyatuber4170 9 месяцев назад

    I got 3.5 fingers down,
1 because I do indeed dog eat pages as it is much more simpler than looking for and loosing bookmarks.
1 cuz I do stop in the middle of a page whenever I’m tired or feel done with the story. I feel as if I’ve read it and need something new to do, I eventually sit down and finish another few chapters before repeating.
1 because I do need to look up the character name pronunciation. For example, Hermione really confused me the first time it read HP.
0.5 down because I only SOMETIMES read the end first, just after the prologue, to see if the story is worth reading.

Stopping in the middle of a page is not insanely strange because there are parts in chapters that are the spots that are good to stop at The break in the text I learned this in English class personally I think it's weird to stop at the end of a page unless it's the beginning of a chapter because the ends of pages normally aren't great stopping points

as an avid fanfic reader… i can NOT handle typos oh my GOD. i mean, i think thats mainly bc ive been spoiled my entire time reading fanfics bc the first fandom i read for had 60k fics on ao3 and my current one has over 150k (and its a very active fandom) so finding fics that are at the very least decent is easy. but i recently decided to start reading for a new fandom and… lets just say the fic quality isnt GREAT so while i havent had to deal with too many typos, its honestly preferable to the insane mischaracterisation ive had to deal with (plus, why is it so hard to find good angst fics of a SUPER POPULAR CHARACTER in the fandom who literally has canon angst for fic writers to work with mentioned throughout the entire show?????)

I stop reading but only at the end of paragraphs so I can put my bookmark at the end of the paragraph to know where to start again

    3 fingers here.
About the fanfiction, I just.. I reread the line with a mentally-grammar-corrected version. It’s hard to explain. Like instead of
“This is what do.” He explain.
It’d be rereading it again with “This is what I do,” he explained.

I can stop reading in the middle of the page but only if it’s a paragraph break. Not just a transition to a new paragraph but when the author puts their fancy little paragraph separating symbol. That’s the only circumstance that can cause me to stop reading in the middle of a page.
