  • Ill be doing another comparison with actual models so we can see the difference in skin tones and such for portraits and fashion work. For this one, i just wanted to cover the standard type of work that us film photographers like shooting haha. Things like retro gas station, abandoned building, and the occasional desert road :P

Lomo 800 is Kodak‘s Ultramax 800 which has the same colors are Portra 800 but older grain technology so it has less dynamic range and less fine grain.

Lomo is respooled and repackaged kodak film, there's theories that it's the same stuff that is used in kodak single use cameras.
So it's closer to kodak ultramax, worked in film labs for the last 6 years and you'd be surprised how many people are surprised by how much film kodak makes. Hell they even make film for fuji now!

Was about to confirm this for him but stumbled on your comment. Yeah crazy how much the do make across so many verticals too.

Weird thing is that IMO Lomo800 differs a bit from 120, at least in my experience. I love the 35mm, but I am getting mixed results on 120.

When i shot film donkeys years ago 800 was a little grainy. 100ASA/ISO was the go too. 👍 Trust me i have been 29 for many years now 😂

Kodak has become a luxury brand ! lots of people say that lomo 100-800 is actually just kodak Portra film but just the top and bottom of the sheets instead of the middle of the sheet which gets sold as Portra

Very interesting theory that would seem to tie into the quality/aesthetic/pro_VS_exprmt factors of the two....I'm okay with that as it is almost a "reuse" and social_postive way of doing things! ; D

I've always suspected that Lomo 800 is just Ultramax 800, which is why Kodak hasn't released it in 120 as of yet. I just wish Kodak could prove me wrong and release it then we would have more choices.

Yeah it was super suspicious how close they were. I still prefer the portra but I edit my film anyways so they’re close enough for me personally.
