taping the entire side of a 24” ride cymbal and using a felt beater sounds like a really roundabout way of getting an electronic kick sound. thanks for the raw sexual energy this video zack.
I can totally see it plugged to ableton and processed through something to make it sound like a kick or similar

Some fifteen years ago I had a drum student with one arm. We actually rigged a hi hat to a kick pedal in a pretty similar way. He also ended up having a prosthetic made for him that could support a drumstick. Really cool kid :)

foot cymbals are super useful. left foot crash can be great for single pedal rock stuff, keep the breakdown 1/4 note crash going while doing grohl type tom lines
i could be wrong but i think having a foot pedal for cymbals was actually a pretty common thing on some of the earliest examples of a modern style drum kit in like the early 1900's
