- I converted a 12x16 shed into a fully built out tiny office featuring pallet wall, loft, mini fridge and more. Here's the full video with before/after pics and how I did it. Here's some stats on it and my list of vendors if you're in the market!

The floor to ceiling windows are amazing. WOW! Never seen anyone do that with a shed conversion.

Awesome! One can do this on smaller sheds too- This one is a decent size but I also looked at ones half this side that you could simply swap out a small window for a big one and cut all the costs down. Could be great for a writer's retreat-
Nice job on the conversion, especially getting and installing those windows. And Dracaena trifasciata (a.k.a. mother-in-law's tongue or snake plant) is another hard-to-kill plant.

I just bought a 12 by 16 with the gambrel roof actually thinking about adding a roof window above the loft. Nice office I would've never thought that a shed could look that good.

That’s a pretty cool office space. I really liked the rave zone! I’m pretty sure my young son will be trying to hang out in there so a little space for him will be great and I’m thinking about putting an “island” for our messy projects.
Ahh great idea- Yes I have some stuff for the kids up in the loft and some snacks for them. Deifnitely some gear that's off limit for them too!
Dreamy...THIS IS AWESOME! In desperate need of something like this to create & a "home" for me & all my tools/supplies, instead of unorganized in boxes. (husband doesn't understand the whole crafty/creative/artistic mentality-to him, everything's junk, lol) I was thinking of using a giant canvas tent inside my house to use as a she shed/craft room & searching if anyone had the same crazy idea..no luck, haha! Not sure about HOA & property taxes if I had a beautiful place like yours in my backyard.? Kudos to you & all who helped create this little piece of heaven :)
Appreciate the shout out and good luck with yours! You can also do it in stages. I started working out of here before it was done- did a virtual workshop with a folding table and extension cord. So you can ease into it and kind of build as you go (except for maybe some of the messier stuff). Good luck!

You inspired me to build my shed. Unfortunately I ordered my lumber from Lowes and got complete junk. They failed to pick it up as well. My dream is mostly ruined but I will try and salvage what I have. I'm going to Home Depot or lumber yard for future lumber.
Don't give up! Take it up the food chain until it's right and let's see that shed!

Great video, sir. I'm actually about to pull the trigger on a "Tuff Shed" and do the same exact thing with it. I own a Web Design and Digital Marketing Studio which, as of last month, is 14 years old. I've been in my current rented office space since about 2010. Rent, internet, utilities, etc. and never being there these days makes it a waste of funds. This would be perfect for my needs and is 100% an inspiration. Funny thing, Im going for the 12x16 "Weekender" style which has a little porch as well. Your vid shows the internal space perfectly! Im sold!
Nice! I'm in the same space- just moved out of my offices too right before COVID shut everything down. Tough times for commercial real estate but if your business will allow you to operate the Shed HQ model then perfect! I saw the models with the front porch too- really cool. There was also this one on the lot that had double lofts and really high ceilings but it was significantly taller. Didn't want to raise flags in the neighborhood with a giant Castle Shed Office LOL. Let me know how the build out goes!
@@pumthuggee So, I did some homework and am ditching the porch style tuff shed and going with a 12x16 A-frame style classic shed. Funny as instead of a regular residential style door, Im also going double door, except mine will have some windows in it. The summer must be awesome with them open! Question time! How tall are your walls? I’m going 6’ 6” but might call and upgrade to 7’. On the fence as well as I don’t want a giant castle either! Haha. One more question… what’s your double door height? I’m 6’ is ok for me as that’s what I ordered as its as tall as they offer. Thanks for this vid again and thanks ahead for your answers to my Q’s! Much appreciated sir!

Great idea- When I was buidling this out I was working in it before it was done and ran my computer set up, a fan and some lights all off 1 power cord I ran into the window. But that's a temporary solution- once you add an AC unit or heat then the power draw gets huge. And nothing beats having real outlets. I think I put the prices for the electrical build out in the notes for the video. There's a big cost to lay the wire so if it's right next to the house then that makes it way cheaper!

I’m currently getting a she shed but it will be my office space due to being hired for Partners. My husband was going to get a window heater/cooling system but he decided to just install two light fixtures with fans. I’m not sure what he’s going to do about the heater. I think he said something about an indoor heater. I have a feeling I’m going to freeze to death 😂 but ok. We will see how it goes.
Hhah well I've been through a few different heating solutions. I would not recommend an all-in-one machine that has Heat and AC... I found a dedicated AC and dedicated baseboard heat with supplemental upright fan heater was the best. I went through 2 of the all-in-one's and while they looked nice and were convenient they just coulnd't handle being the primary source of hot or cold.

What did you do to vent the roof? We are finishing up a shed like your’s and debating which way to go. Just finished up doors, electrical, HVAC (MrCool mini split). Next is insulation/ventilation/walls/floors/paint/trim.
Hi Joel- No roof vents, just sealed it on up and do all the air exchange through the HVAC. I will say that baseboard heat has been way more effective (and quieter) than the big unit. Also the big combo unit broke twice so now I have a window AC unit and seperate baseboard unit.

My father is suggesting framing in the middle of the ceiling to connect the two gable vents.
@@JoJoJoker I just went with my contractor's recommendation. We used R15 or whatever that paper-covered insulation is (should be a pic in this video somewhere). It's working great in terms of managing the temps I'll you that!
@@pumthuggee Thanks for the answer. I had the same question as Joel D. I guess by function of being in there all the time the air circulates whereas a closed shed it might not. I am ordering a shed next weekend and am in the process of figuring out all the interior stuff. Thanks for the info on what you did for heating and cooling
@@terryodonnell5739 Sure, happy to help. I also run the fan in my window AC unit and right now when its in the 60s I'll just leave a giant door open. Doesn't work for january so much but for the warm months, no complaints on air flow.

I’m doing something very similar with a side lofted barn - I have your same doors. Can I ask what you used to seal the doors with? … congrats man. Killer transformation!
nice! the doors seals really tight already so I basically keep one always closed and just pull the other one shut. I did have a piece of basic weatherstripping stuck on the bottom of the opening door but it eventually fell off. I just got that in a roll from Lowes. Hope that helps!
Nice office! Are you in a city or country? Are there any restrictions in your area for sheds or building out a shed for an office?
suburban context- electrical needed inspection so that was really the part that needed to be blessed- no structure permit for under 200sq feet. This is 192 so just under!

35 amps! The biggest pull I have in there is my window AC unit- still not much since that thing is so insulated.
Do you live in area where winter is tough? Does it handle weather okay?
So I'm definitely going back to insulate under the shed. The floor is noticeably colder than the rest of the shed. Still running heat off 1 baseboard heater but I think the insulation is going to help a lot on the floor. Right now it's just plywood, padding, and rug. Only thing I would have done different!
What are your plans for the floor insulation when you redo it?

Good question about California. I think codes vary by County so unfortunately can't help on this one!
I’m thinking of doing this in Michigan. I have similar doors on my shed. I was going to replace them with a single entry door. How do those doors work in the winter in terms of warmth?
The doors are pretty good for keeping things sealed- I did add a weather stripping at the bottom of both. The floors are really where the cold penetrates the most- I've since added some under=-floor insulation so definitely would recommend that too!
Also the windows that came with it were single pane. If you have a chance to get dual pane, something nicer- that will help a ton

Air tight! no leaks anywhere but the windows are definitely installed tight and it was amish built from the get go.
What did you use to insulate the floors? Was it just using the carpet for insulation or did you put foam boards under the shed? Wondering since I live in Texas and my tuff shed is on a slab with the Tuff Shed having the 6" steel frame. Walls and roof are insulated with 2" closed cell spray foam and wondering about the floor and if I even need to worry about it to be honest. Shed looks great!
Great question- Floor is just the plywood then carpet padding then carpet. It definitely gets colder than the rest of the space so looking back I think adding some kind of additional layer there would be a good idea. We're in MD so temps can range quite a bit. The rest of that place is tight though- even with the stock doors on it (I do shove some padding in there becuase there's a little gap where the doors meet. Good luck!
How deep is the loft? 3 feet?
It's about 3 feet deep, yep. I did padding and carpet up there plus that ledge. Electrical is great for up there too.

Get a small ficus tree they love being pot bound only water when soil is really dry, also what was the cost of getting electrical run , cuz im getting a shed come July i know in carroll county I need a permit but I don't know much else. Love the pallet wood wall its gorgeous, also hi neighbor
Electrical was $1700 but I dug the trench myself... so probably a decent amount more if the trench is included... Let me know how it goes!

Great! It's a 12x16. I have another shed too that's being used for actual shed purposes. That one has a loft on both sides and a center door on the long side. I think either design would be cool.
Hey! I am in the midst of a similar project. Did you insulate your door at all? What did you do for a door lock?
Word! I didn't insulate the doors but they came installed really snug so almost no gaps. I did add some rubber weatherstripping around the bottom and I only open 1 door ever. So that has kept it pretty tight. The deadbolt was really tough- I actually used a Gate Lock- not very easy to find at Lowe's but eventually got it to work and it's solid. I'll try to find the exact name of it later but deadbolt + handle lock + alarm system on doors and windows- it's the most secure shed I've ever been in LOL. Good luck!

That looks like a great place to work - the framework is thicker than the sheds you can buy in the UK, so better for the insulation. Did you insulate the doors?
Hi Alex- Didn't insulate the doors but i did install some weather stripping around the bottom. I only ever open 1 side and it's built really tight so basically sealed. And it does shift a bit depending on temp and humidity. Sometimes the doors shut tighter or looser depending on those factors

Thanks! I have a window AC unit for warm months. other than that, just the occasional fan- I'm in and out so many times each day it just never feels stuffy.

Great set up man. One thing I didn't see is the cost for the site leveling or Slab or concrete blocks pier? what did you set it on?
Thanks Efrain- I had a bunch of blocks already and the company that delivered did the leveling and install. didn't take long. It's just blocks on the ground at all 4 corners plus every 4 feet or so around the other sides. Bot a big cost.

Hi Lynna, it's a 12x16. Not sure what the pitch on the roof is but you can stand up in every corner and not hit your head (at least for me at 5'10")

Great! Ceiling is just insulation and then that panel board with mud on it. Then the wood beams you see cover up the seams. Drywall totally an option too but 2x the cost of the cheap panel board

Yes- same insulation and paneling and then for the ceiling the seams are covered with stained boards. They seems were just way more noticeable on the ceiling than walls

How do you keep this from molding
Hi Ema- It's airtight with full insulation, built by the amish. So no mold issues but also it's probably a much tighter build than most sheds!
Any moisture problems yet?
Nothing yet! Some slight cracks at some of the seams where we spackled some wall panels together but nothing really noticeable-
Did you have to vent this shed?
Hi Sean- I sealed the vents on both sides completely so no venting going on. With the doors opening and closing all day + a really solid construction build out I haven't had any issues with moisture or air. I do have a window AC unit I'll run on cold or fan for half the year and then I open the windows for the in-between months. All seems to have worked so far with that approach. Only big temp issue that I don't have a solution to is that the floor is straight plywood with just ground underneath. So that can get a lot colder than than the rest of the shed which is fully insulated like a house. Hope that helps!
@@pumthuggee thanks for the reply. Getting ready to build a barn style with loft and trying to figure out if venting is needed. It’s a bit tough though if the ceiling is completely dry walled. Windows, doors, and AC unit may be the only way if I’m going to have it fully insulated.

@@seanmccaffrey5804 Ahh gotcha- That might be perfect. I decided it was more important to have this place insulated and tight because of all my electronics in here. If you're packing your computer stuff in and out every day or don't have a lot of electronics then you can probably do whatever you want and the only variables will be around temperature consistency. You can always include a vent but with a lid or latch to seal it up. If you need to vent it down the road, open it up when needed. I almost did that.
