This video is for educational and documentary purposes only. It contains material that may be disturbing or offensive to some viewers, but it is presented in a truthful and non-exploitative manner. The views expressed in this video do not necessarily reflect the views of the creator or RUclips...
I love how Nux pauses the video exactly on a point where MatPat is explaining something he’d just about to say. Specifically when Nux is saying “What if it isn’t Pomni’s Desk” and then Mat Pat is literally saying “And even if this isn’t Pomni’s desk”. It’s just so wild to me 😭
Nux is Mat Pat confirmed
@@NikkiTheViolistDon't forget he's also Noble.
I think he's onto something. It makes sense. Because if the person's body was sucked into the computer, wouldn't the headset fall to the ground rather than it perfectly lying on the desk?
could follow .hack//sign rules. tsukasa was braindead in the hospital while trapped in the game.
@@tyrannuslapis5107that’s actually a cool theory
Not if a mastermind is already setting it up for someone else. But I feel ya.
@@hats4cats Wouldn't the headset still fall to the ground afterwards?
And heck they would also die after sometime
Nux, you need to let my boy cook, you’re out here watching mattpat pour flower into a bowl and you start yelling THIS ISNT BREAD, THIS IS JUST POWDER
my favorite kind of bread, flower based bread. Although I'm a big fan of “Aunt Jemima" Plastic bomb based bread.
I assume it's his way of avoiding being like SSSniperwolf.
A lot of people do not stick around for discussion and only watch the 'reaction' so he provides his 'discussion' in the middle instead.
Fair enough. I'm a fan of both.
That's what I'm saying
I know people they don’t even know what a floppy disk is, so I’m glad he’s bringing stuff like the old VR heads sets in the 90s. Nux, you’re showing your age.
No Nux, it is a VERY big deal whether or not these people are simply wearing headsets that they can't take off (like SAO) or they're digital clones.
Because if they are digital clones, they *really can't leave.* The entire plot of the show is Pomni trying to find a way to leave, and if this is like SAO she'll probably find a way to leave eventually. But if she's a digital clone escape was never a possibility in the first place, which can make for a very dark ending.
This has the same energy as watching a mathematician prove something is a triangle and getting angry at them for using basic logical arguments and proofs to do so.
Getting from A to D is easy. Understanding B and C, no matter how seemingly innocuous or minor, helps develop critical thinking and provides a stronger foundation for arguments rather than saying “it’s obvious” or “everyone knows that” even if it is, in fact, fairly well-known.
I mean I can think of few things more useless than in geometry class having to write poems on why a square is a square. For this video its especially useless as its meant to be a theory not an explanation of the most basic facts.
@@plugshirt1762 While the literal act of proving a square is indeed a square serves no tangible, practical purpose in everyday life, the act promotes critical thinking, as opposed to taking all information at just face value or just memorizing answers without any further thought.
For MatPat, his profession involves research, theorycrafting, and public presentation. It typically deals with looking at minute details in media to serve as evidence, so little changes could make all the difference on the believability of a theory. So when MatPat calls attention to how each object in both scenes are the same, he wants to unquestioningly establish that locations are the same. Not just ‘reused assets’ or ‘similar only’ or ‘the-computer-actually-says-2065-in-this-scene’ but the same.
‘These are the same’ ‘why?’ ‘It’s kinda obvious/use you’re eyes/etc.’ is also not an engaging way to present or pitch an idea to an audience that may have a diverse level of understanding and/or knowledge about the theories.
@@sandatanidamoclesyou need help.
@@sandatanidamocles Yeah I agree that a lot of this is obvious. "C&A... what name in the show starts with a C? Audience, do YOU know a name that starts with a C? ...That's right, Caine, and what name goes with Caine? Caine and...." but regardless the title was the complete opposite, "Actually BLEW MY MIND" no it didn't, there wasn't even a sparkle of a pop rock in there. I am still somewhat new to his channel but I feel a little clickbaited right now, I was expecting to see someone's mind blown and experience it vicariously and get a big reaction but it feels like I was lied to, like telling me someone is surprised but when I'm there is like "Yo I totally knew that" because yes, it was obvious and I put most of that together myself on the first watch... but then why the hell did he say it "ACTUALLY BLEW MY MIND" in the title?
@@BlueAmpharos Because he's a RUclipsr
Ngl matpat cooks with his theories, just gotta let him cook.
Dude he's just breaking it down Barney style for the people who don't pay attention chiiiiiill 😂
Such as Filian 😁 But I guess that's just like her.
I reckon Caine knows exactly when someone goes insane and instantly replaces them with a new character of a similar theme and that's why pomni shows up the second cofmo extracts. And that there are only ever six people at a time.
Ragatha apologizes to Pomni though about how horrible her first day was implying that its not usual. Also the others would certainly notice an obvious pattern like that, there is no way they would be that suprised about Koufmo abstracting after seeing Pomni enter.
I'm definitely a firm believer of the replacement theory but at the very least, its not an instant replacement. As the other comment mentioned, Ragatha implies that abstracting is abnormal especially on a first day of someone being there. You also have to consider Queenie and if she was Kingers partner or if she came before him because that would really solidify the theory.
@@Sinbaby-rt5pemaybe is abnormal cause they don't see the person abstracting , Caine just gets rid off them and then delivers the news on a later date
It's a fair point but I think that it's interesting that kinger who has been there the longest and would be the most likely to put it together thinks that kofmo has gone insane. It just makes me wonder if he's based it on the exit door thing like he says or if he started to realise but wasn't quite sure himself if cofmo abstracting caused pomni to appear. As although we can guess they've been there for a while we don't know the exact timeframe or if anyone extracted after kinger arrived or if the group before didn't mass abstract.
Like a chain reaction or the realisation of there replacement broke them all and that's why kinger keeps it to himself. I don't think this is definitely the case but it would explain why the characters are usually matched to a specific theme
I feel like the idea that they are digital copies of human consciousness is a lot more depressing and darker than just humans being trapped in a game.
Because if they did have a human body then there would be a chance for them to escape the digital circus. Vs if they don’t have a human body then there would be no hope in escaping and they would continue to live forever until someone pulls the plug.
Definitely reminds me of the neurographic scans from soma. In fact the show shares a lot of similarities to soma in general. I think some of the coping mechanisms that the characters show are similar as well. Like in soma, Simon basically spent half the game in complete denial of the situation from being a human surrounded by machines who believe they’re human to then thinking that his mind was transferred and not copied. It didn’t take until half way through for him to understand that the neurograph is just a copy of your consciousness. And he didn’t even completely come to terms with that fact until the very end of the game after arguing with Catherine about why he wasn’t on the ark and ended up stressing Catherine to the point of failure and destroyed the omnitool she was in as well as the control console which stranded one of the instances of Simon alone in the dark ocean without any power. You also see a similar occurrence with pomni where at certain points she just simply believes she’s dreaming or hallucinating, basically saying what’s going on around her isn’t real and eventually just reaching a complete mental breakdown.
The show obviously has a ton of inspiration from a lot of different sources but the similarities between those two stuck out to me personally.
@@sirshotty7689The difference between this and soma however is that in soma it is essentially a perfect copy of the brain, memories and all. In this, it is like a personality that has been copied, no memories from the outside world except for the headset. While it's only the first episode, no one so far has mentioned anything from the outside world, just that they want to leave.
I love how he always says he doesn't dislike Mattpat. And completely disproves that with every second hes on screen
I like how Nux tries to makes fun of Matpat and thinks he's gonna say something really obvious but then Matpat just lists way more things than Nux thought. Referring to him at like 8:00 thinking Matpat was gonna just talk about the old computer being old as a reference to how old the setting was, and then Matpat lists like 10 things. Love to see it! XD
And he still finds a way to insult him through his voice crack
I like how he gets mad that matpat points things out thinking he is the only one that watches the show
Matpat is for people like me, I made no connection between the backrooms computer and the end ing scene computer, that's also why I watch so many reaction channels watch the same thing, their verbal comments help me piece stuff together
Nux getting frustrated at MatPat not ignoring the obvious hints and adding them to the list of evidence reminded me about how I was frustrated for only getting half a point on my answer in grade school because even though I answered it correct they wanted me to write down the method and in-between steps. If MatPat didn't add it the audience would burry him under comments of having missed this and that, even if it was just more obvious than the more subliminal or hidden. Plus you can't expect him to NOT add an obvious theory just because a lot of other people have probably already thought of the basic one. The first few seconds having primitive game graphics being an obvious hint but MatPat straight-up ignoring the possibility of it being a game is just ridiculous. So you can't make mock him for acknowledging that. It's adding nuances to that, like the period within a few years, where or for what those were used etc. that is his bread and butter.
Agreed. Also each theory basically builds on the previous more basic ones. It is like using math to show your work as you solve a more advanced calculation.
FT: "Our first theory will be on the small scale that much evidence supports"
Nux: "Okay"
FT: (Gives the numerous evidence that support this small theory)
Nux: "And I took that personally"
Right? he even complains that the Small Theory is a Small Theory.......

I dont like Matpats theories wither but even I think Nux goes to hard and sometimes misses the point on some of his theories.
The digital clone is literally the plot of SOMA. Which is a pretty good way to take the story though.
Eh if they do it like that it would feel really overdone at this point tbh. When soma did it it was an awesome twist and interesting story but at this point it would just feel run of the mill
Exactly what I was thinking!
@@plugshirt1762I'd say it depends on what they actually do with it. Remember they revealed that it was a virtual world everyone was permanently trapped in like two minutes in when a lot of other works would hide that for a while for a false sense of "innocence". I think if they are hunting at the mindscan thing this early on, that they are likely to fully reveal it within one or two episodes and actually use it for something moving forward, rather than having that just be the big reveal of the series.
People need to understand that these theories are not for people like Nux, who are perceptive enough to see a lot of the things that Matt Pat is pointing out. It’s for people like me who aren’t so bright that need help seeing these things.
People brain damaged thanks to antipsychotics or physical trauma. Would be nice if therapy was about helping with getting to a state of better internal regulation but it's not.
We all start somewhere on our journey of internet enlightenment. Having the theory videos be super easy to understand can also lead to being better able to analyze and interpret art altogether. I myself am an example of this, I remember a time before even Film Theory.

I was afraid of success because it usually meant more of a burden to myself and less time to do what little I had to enjoy such as videogames and friends. I sometimes wish I was never born because I feel like all life wants is for me to suffer and that's it.
Matt pat explains surface level stuff most of the time. I'm sorry but that doesn't take someone that's perceptive. It's more about just paying attention
Basically, for absolute majority of casual people
Nux struggles letting Mat cook lol. He over explains because some people may have missed a detail or hadn’t even watched the episode prior to watching the theory, helps keep all the viewers on the same page as those of us that did notice.
In the GlitchX interview with Gooseworx, she said that the Last Supper symbolism at the end is purely cosmetic because she thought it was funny, which tells us that she'd totally write her story to be as devastating as possible just because it'll be hilarious to see the internet's reaction. I wouldn't bet money on any of these three theories being the one that gets used, even partially
I mean except the first one lol seeing as it’s not even a theory. The other two I hope aren’t true either as they’re so meh

@@ALradio_-lz4lo it's the worst especially when it's related to matpat for some reason.
I kind of thought that they might be copies of their personalities, but not full copies. There are no memories. It would be kind of a dark twist, because then there really isn't any physical body for them to go back to. The originals are going on living their lives, unaware that they spawned a little vr clone that's having an existential crisis about a human life they are connected to, but can never reunite with.
So it's obvious Pomni ends up cracking at the sight of the computer because it's the one she put the headset on at, but I doubt she's laughing at the dark irony.
She's trying to escape and finds the spot she came here from, but it's clearly not real, she's still in the wrong body, and her real one isn't there. That's supposed to be outside right there, only it's clearly not because it's inside this place I'm trying to get outside and the exit led to not really outside so I have to go inside the not outside to get outside outside.

If the computer at the end of the episode isn't Pomni's then why does she recognize it? If it is a host computer than downloads humans in different places why would Pomni recognize it and why would the objects around it match with the desk we see earlier?
My theory: TADC used to be an actual game, maybe even an MMO given the quantity of rooms available, and the people who play it would have brain scans made without their knowledge, these copies would be transferred to the C&A offices and used to either
1 - Train Caine (maybe they wanted to see if they could make an AI that could truly replace a human, emotions and everything)
or
2 - To test out the game to see what content they should put in next (this one feels less likely for some reason).

The Amazing Digital Circus is soooooo fun, and I’m excited for what will happen
in the Series next~^^ ❤
I think the last theory could potentially be very interesting. It reminds me a lot of Soma.
Just imagine the characters at some point being made aware they are just brainscan copies of their real selfs and having to grapple with that reality. Meanwhile if the versions of our characters in the real world are made aware of their digital copies, assuming they weren't the ones making or agreeing to them in the first place, what they would potentially do receiving that information (again, think about Soma)
SHEESH!!! Has everyone forgotten TRON?!?! Maybe just maybe like in TRON…when they put the headset on, they get fully digitized. Maybe they get physically sucked in leaving nothing but an empty headset at the desk. I feel like I’m the only person considering this!!! You can’t even claim that it was a dud from the 80’s because they made an awesome sequel in the early 2000’s.
I think what he means, is a copy of their brain is taken, and is given its own autonomy, becoming separate from the original human. Their bodies aren't there, controlling the character inside the game. They're watching what their brain copy does within the world of the game. If they were still sitting at a headset, they would still have needs like food, water, and sleep, but be unable to fill their needs if they were stuck and eventually die irl. Plus, if they were still connected to the headset, it's likely someone in the real world could just take it off for them.
A copied conscience is not the same as a person transported into the world. For one, a transported person either has their entire body sucked in or how mat says, their bodies should be sitting and wearing a headset. A transported body gives more hope that they can somehow leave. When it's a copied conscience, they are technically a local to the world with no actual way of leaving because they are FROM the circus. If it's the conscience, looking for a way to leave would be useless and unachievable.
22:26 its not
If theyre not the real persons they can never leave because the real person would still exist
Nux, I think the reason he is trying to present so much evidence here is because some people simply won’t believe it because they say so. He just wants to make sure people can’t disprove his theory.
I thought of the nearly endless office rooms as more like "The Stanley Parable" with the last hallways before the door to the void being like "Little Nightmares 2"
I heard someone say the creator said Stanley Parable was an inspiration
I want to see this series go in a The World Ends with You route where the characters are forced to play the 'game' (the adventures) to uphold either a secret contract or for survival, and if they fail they die/get abstracted, and there is no escape from the game (NOT squid game, because that involved a reward that was obvious to everyone)
My personal take is that the mannequins are people in the game. When they get stuck, the mannequins change to a shape that fits the art style of the circus while also changing to a form most comfortable for the consciousness. I imagine that it isn't just a situation of 'Randomly generated shape' but rather something that they can reasonably conceive to be their shape, or that gives them comfort. Kinger and his wife probably liked chess, and that relation as well as being something they shared made it easier for them to take those shapes.
12:09 😂 ok it may seem obvious but not all people watch things for the plot and they would not pick up on things like that, most people are easily distracted by unnecessary things (that are contrary to the narrative) like character designs, voice acting, fan fictions, etc. it’s not ideal for people to look into that and is kinda sad😂
Ngl, it gave me SOMA vibes, or whatever that underwater facility horror was called
MatPat sounds like he recorded on 2x speed.
I’m pretty sure there’s more to Kinger than they’re letting on. Not only has he been there the longest out of the current batch, which is a big deal on its own, but at the end of the episode, when Jax says he can still be hungry after not doing anything, Kinger corrects him and states that they can’t be hungry in the digital world and that the digital food doesn’t provide any sustenance, only the sensation of eating. Why would he know that? Everything else he says in the episode was just crazy nonsense, but that was an insightful response about the digital world. Either he’s more important to this than he seems or I’m just reading too far into a joke.
I mean why wouldn’t he know that lol if he’s been stuck there for years you’d think he would have tried eating at some point and realized when he didn’t that it wasn’t necessary. Granted kinger is the most likely as jax asking since when is he an expert fees like foreshadowing plus him referencing insect collections(game bugs)
5:04 i don't think it's a FAKE exist, as much as an exist he couldn't finish, as he said, because he doesn't know what's on the other side of an exist, he never was outside.
tbh I still think TADC the game got abandoned like 20 years ago and people are just occasionally entering the abandoned building and getting trapped. It makes no sense to me how Matpat implies that this is a game currently being developed when all the other "human" characters have been there for years. I guess the simulation could be running at like 1000x speed compared to real life, but I doubt it. The computer was clearly shown to be dirty and old and neglected. If that's true, it's very unlikely imo that there is any "audience" or anyone doing this on purpose. It's just Caine saying "well, you've managed to get yourself stuck here forever and I can't help you, but I can at least try to entertain you for the rest of eternity."
I am on board with them being digital clones instead of real people, though. Who knows if Caine would be aware of that though. I think people believe Caine has way more influence than he actually does.
Dammit nux your thumbnail made me think you were on a film theory episode and I was so hyped
Right off the bat, a glitchy vision screen.
I think the Digital Circus exists ONLY on that one computer. C&A is a game company that is currently bankrupt and the building is abandoned. The cast are all part of the team who were working on the game but one by one when testing the game got trapped. Pomni may be the only exception to what i said. She may have been a random person from the streets (criminal, homeless idk) and decided to hideout in the abandoned C&A building, found the computer and tried to play the game and got trapped too.
I genuinely think this is a sort of beta test for the Ai characters for the game. In the commercial for the wacky watch it said they were using experimental computer chips that would make their experience feel real. What better way to make a real experience than Ai that think they’re human and can interact with the player?
the copy humans brain theory is just revelation in the game SOMA
12:45... ye that was one of my theories, she's like the SAO creator, but her mind was also wiped, probably wanted an escape from reality and a new start, or she was heavily involved in its creation while having the same motivation. Also feel Bubble is more reminiscent of Pacman, despite the teeth, that she eats everything, guess it could be both, as both are from the 80s, Chain Chomp made its 1st appearence in 1988, Pacman in 1980 the grandfather of gaming.
Nah Pomni called it some weird headset. And people have been there long enough to slowly go insane. More likely is that C+A closed down after mysterious disappearances and she's doing urban exploration.

Yo ,I came up with the human Ai theory a few weeks ago as well. Mostly because of the "no need to eat part", the lack of memories, etc...
If the characters were still humans attched to the game, their brains would still be connected, they would still remember who they are.
But if the game scans the user in some rudimentary way then creates a basic copy of their personality as an npc/Ai it makes perfect sense.
The real humans put the thing on for a few seconds, took it off then went on with their lives. No one is missing or hospitalized which would definetely cause issues for the company developing this.
Game data can also be erased but the abstracted characters are instead put in a storage space. Maybe to analyze and figure out what caused the npc to get corrupted
"Just keep grabbing at it, that worked for all of us" - Jax 2023
Well Nux, if they were in the simulation to entertain someone else who likes to watch people suffer, that would be us, right? 😶🌫
The third theory is straight out of the video game Soma. It was effectively a walking sim but the ideas and concepts it brings up about identity and consciousness made it really interesting.
Nux was lowkey annoying in this video he kept pausing and saying “we already know this” like dude let matpat explain it damn.
Matpat: "Hmm, yes. The water is wet."
the head set could also be magically cursed to bring people into the program
Why is nux so weird watching this like i get hes reacting but pulling nit picks and like being weird the whole vid
He's always like this to an extent when reacting. When he reacted to the One Piece live action, he had a whole tangent about how the cannon angle not making sense when fired in one part, not knowing you can turn cannons in ships to not just fire straight.
These videos with Nux and Mat are some of my absolute favourites and he kinda was based with this one plus Amazing Digital Circus ep 2 gonna pop off so hard
We get it you're smart
Soma is a game that plays with the concept of 'scanned in brains'. And the very real horror that could follow such technology.
Nux has an unhealthy parasocial relationship with Matpat
I love that Nux is still doing the whole "I act offended when Matpat explains it to people who have not seen it yet!" trolling x,D Please never change. Never evolve, let something stay stagnant and comfortable!
There’s a game called Soma that takes the brain copying/scanning idea and runs with it.
The last theory reminds me of the plot to The Hollow🤔
Okay, yes, Matpat gets into the obvious descriptions but sometimes people aren't that bright my guy. Sometimes people need something pointed out
And you have to remember not everyone on the internet was born in the 90's.
and that was his first time watching it, so it would be natural to point out stuff people have already picked up.
He also has to make sure the video is as widely digestible as possible so people don't just move on. Personally i love Team Theorist but i can see why Nux has such a Love/Hate (emphasis on hate) relationship with them.
Ik Nux is lowkey annoying
I personally would like it to be a psychological evaluation of sorts. Like, you go to a psychotherapist, they scan your brain, put your digital copy in a stressfull situation and see how it will react to learn how to treat the patient. Though that would make it more likely for everyone except Pomni to be either an AI or actors/therapists.
This or an indirectly controlled game. Imagine real Jax and Pomni discussing what task should they make Cane give their copies the next day while commenting on what a mess they turned out.
- I want something cute with lotsa sweets and candies!
- And I want some cool cowboys!
- Candies!
- Cowboys!
Digital Circus premise reminds me of a Ghost in the Shell Tand Alone Complex episode.
Where people get mind jacked and stuck watching a unimaginably perfect movie inside the creators brainbox. To be fair, you have to physically connect with cords since its not connected to the internet. Only one person, Major Motoko, is able to resist and help pull people out....
Well those that they can identify and have a body to go back to anyways.
Typical AI
Pomni : Is there an exit ?
Caine ... No
Pomni : I want an exit !
Caine : ... Oh ok, here's an exit :)
Pomni : I went through, that's not an exit :(
Caine : I'm sorry, I misunderstood your prompt
I don’t agree with his one theory he had because the npcs have rooms and exits Pomni just existed. So they make a room for everyone not just who ever joined the game human or not.
Also I believe you can’t die just glitch. This is a point and click with mini game challenge. Like humongous entertainment, Nickelodeon, or reader rabbit. A better question would be, did pomni cause the clown to abstract. Is it because there can only be up to 8 players? We know Caine is human but is bubbles? Sure we got a card for her but nothing that says I’m a human but a sidekick. A partner or best friend companion.
I think the Pomni being an employee is possible but the fact that she describes it as "some weird headset" which implies a lack of familiarity does make it seem less likely
It makes sense as she forgot her past and just remembers putting the headset on.
As a big fan of Murder Drones and Digital Circus a good 5 of those views were me and counting. I keep rewatching them.
22:53, could also be an SCP like situation, in that they aren't entertaining anyone but are instead being studied. They could be doing that, entertaining others, entertaining themselves, or yeah it's an escape for the human race for survival purposes. Heck he brings up 90s stuff, and yes it has that aesthetic but what if that is just to appeal to nostalgia? What if this is oh I don't know, 2070, and the human race is dying out, the remaining humans that would be like 80-100 now if they were born between the 80s and 90s. Thus to keep their minds intact (like adventures within the show do, to keep their sanity), they provide nostalgia. Could be life support, could be mind transfer, some means to keep them not only alive, not only sane, but also to keep them there and never want to leave. The ship from Wally, I believe Portal also did this? Where the AI thinks its keeping the humans there, keeping them safe, when in reality it's just making things worse, thus Cain could be doing this because he thinks its right, a God complex, because of how he was programmed.
