I don't know why people say they weren't geniunely good friends, this episode actually had Jerry assault an old lady and steal her bread to help George, haha.
Agree they seemed to enjoy each other's misery from time to time but they helped each other a lot. Remeber when jerry tried the switch?

I like how they always "fix" a problem in the worst way possible. He could have just told them, they took it back since they figure they didn't like it or maybe were allergic to it... Simple as that.
It would cause both families kill each other.
But this explains how Seinfeld is a series about "nothing." The idea of getting into this ridiculous situation over a loaf of rye bread is genius.

Look, I love the whole episode, and it would be great to include all of it, but that scene doesn't really follow the theme line being presented here.
@Necramonium Babu was the last witness who put them in jail. The old bag was the deciding vote to remove Morty as condo president.

I disagree. Although it's a very nice gesture. Some people, maybe on a diet or for other reasons, can't/won't eat dessert. I could see how that might make someone uncomfortable.

If you are not Jewish, this would seem quaint, but the Marble Rye is a common or important custom after Saturday service at Temple and important social events. The breaking of the bread is an important custom. I remember when someone brought Raisin Bread vs regular sweet bread to Temple and after the service he was like "we are finally moving up in the world"☺ like we are getting fancy!
That person with the new and improved bread was a fancy boy, a real dandy!

This is one of my very favorite episodes. The first time I saw this episode and it gets to where Kramer and Rusty the horse are riding with Susan's parents and Rusty is constantly passing gas after Kramer feeds him his excess Beeferino I swear I nearly died laughing! The angle that they use to show Kramer clueing in to the smell slaaaaaayed me and still does to this very day.

This is definitely an example of a cultural divide. If you are in a rural environment and you bring something to a potluck, if it is untouched, you are completely within your rights to take it home. When talking about this episode, everyone I know from a city agreed with George, and everyone from a rural area agreed with Frank.
If i brought food that I prepared, in a dish, I'll take it home. A loaf of bread that I bought, in a plastic bag, I'll leave behind. I can buy another loaf of bread.
Lol which is why the show put situations like that in to poke fun at the two logics. Me personally I'd of told my girlfriend the situation and explained how messed up my family is.

Bossfan49 I am not sure that particular line was from Larry. However, between Curb and Seinfeld he is one brilliant SOB. I stand by that statement now and forever. Larry was known for coming up with concepts or story lines. The staff of writers along with Jerry many times helped with putting the scripts together.
@@bigh7972 Carol Leifer, who wrote that episode, credited Larry with tbe idea about Jerry's confrontation w the old lady. She said Larry felt that Jerry should have 1 more obstacle before getting the rye to George.
Each of the actors playing the parents (Frank & Estelle, and Mr. & Mrs. Ross) were just such terrific character actors, the likes of which we sadly don't seem to have many of anymore (where everyone just basically plays versions of themselves... :-( l
There was really only one line that could've ended the scene with George holding the loaf of rye on a line from a fishing rod, and it was.... "Schnitzer's"
