Scouting for a bear site

I went looking for a place to set up a bear site and ended up finding an abandon bear site. I read the rules and it turns out you can leave a tree stand out year round with the land owners permission (which I doubt the person has). What you cant do is leave out your bear barrel. The barrel was empty with no markings and no trace of someone going back there. I'll head into town tomorrow and see if the site is registered. If all else fails, it'll probably be my site now.
