Yes indeed IKB!! Lol that cudda been her hooting in her beloved 47484 (and mine!). . . I will never forget her telling me about her endless 12hr weekend shifts on ballast drops etc in that very loco back then, an OC veteran machine. Oh wot a life!! Meanwhile, another great recording sir. Lovely to see 37709 of the ex SF based fleet, i followed the progress intensely of the new triple-grey sector refurb 37's at SF in '87/88, lol i even claim to have possibly the very first pic of the 1st one painted, 37673 of LA, sitting outside the major depot on sat 5.9.87 after a storm (after i'd seen West Ham 1 -1 Liverpool, great match, its on youtube somewhere) gleaming in her 'new weird grey' as i wrote it down as! Paint seemed wet, so i managed to put a finger-print or 2 on it hehe, talk about fate jeeez lol. The livery was made public in next weeks railnews i recall. Apparently the Roundel scheme was awaiting evaluation at SF from the board, i had to cab it for the number. And also that day was 86228 with a trial brown-grey on its IC executive. Showed Corina the pic, she said it was historical, shame it was a 110 snap, came out ok tho! Lol i was already a livery nut by then, that day just made it worse haha. . .
Fantastic selection there, plenty of claggy diesels! The whole character and feel of Acton Mainline now is very different of course with much more uniform traction and a much cleaner station, but these days had all the character!
Hi Soi, couldn’t agree more was a great place to hang out, have loads of video from there, had to keep your eyes peeled in all directions as stuff came from all directions very quickly!! also so varied single, double, And triple headed Locos, nearly all gone to to the graveyard. Happier days. Eddie🤓
Gawd, so many magical trains in this man! Blimey where do i start hehe. . . Did the Mickledever tanks go this way or Woking, i cant remember? Colnbrook only opened in March 1990 to supplement Heathrow i think and had 60's totally taken over from 2x47 by this time on the Humber/Lindsey - Langley jobs and how far did Acton drivers take them? Cant remember wot she said damn! 47295 i assume is on either ex Slough or Swindon Shell perhaps? 295 was also the last 47 painted into Rf Petroleum 7.91 at ZF. And hmmm, 47702, i showed her my pic of it in SF C shed '94, but she wernt impressed as it had another ex in the pic lol. . . 47839 there, ex 47621 'Royal County Of Berkshire' an IC executive OC stalwart. Remember her gleaming on the turntable in 87. I could go on and on about the liveries but i'm going to be weird and play Acton 5/90 with my trains for a few hours, bzzzzt! If only i could afford a model of 59001 tho . . . Thanks for filming and sharing mate, i'll watch this several more times no doubt.
There were no Acton drivers when i filmed this, the depot had yet to open! Old Oak (as well as other depots) crews had to travel pass to egt there and pick up a train......
47484 correctly employed on a civil engineers train, as it was a civil engineers loco at this point, despite it being in GWR green, and was the last 47 to retain that livery complete, as 47500 had its name and cast number plates removed, and given white transfers for its number. Also, 47702 on light engine, I guess coming from Willesden to Old Oak Common.
@Adam C Lol in that case you'll need to model my ex, she was OC based this year. then here at Acton a year later smashing loco's around London and S.E. !!!!!!!!! I have some of her vids from inside the yard etc to put up on YT if your interested hehehe ooof!
The Western Region provided the HSTs for the Holyhead service at this time. A few years later a dedicated pool based at Longsight was created for the Holyhead's.....
When I was at Acton main line in October, 332,345,387,800/2 passenger services, 332 now demisied, an odd 59 but mostly 66 locos Variety is dead on the railways, but, they cant keep relying on old equipment for all eternity and thats a fact
while I enjoyed living through those days, your videos bring home what a filthy place the railway was then. The amount of cr*p coming out of those exhausts is astonishing! I know it's the "clag" which gets the younger generation wetting their pants, but it just shows how poorly maintained the loco fleet was. I miss the noise, but nothing else!
The engines were of dating from the 50s/60s in the main and long out of a works visit for some of them so they were a lot more smokey than today's improved engines....I mean, they were a lot cleaner than the steam locos they replaced!
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Oh, absolutely! But my point is that way back then we didn't really appreciate just how knackered the system was! Sheds and multiple units have very few redeeming features for the enthusiast, but they have certainly made the network cleaner and more pleasant. Strange to think that at some time in the future, the current railway will be looked upon as a "golden age", while people weep over the demise of the Azuma!
@@ramblingrob4693 Oh dear Rob, so close and yet so far! I am a lover of the railways in general, otherwise why would I view this channel and others like it. I simply do not understand why people view the railways of 30 years ago through such rose tinted spectacles. I'm a southern region lad, so we had a relatively clean railway back then. Visiting the great train sheds of Kings Cross and Paddington back in those days would often leave one with a grubby face and stinging eyes due to the amount of unburnt hydrocarbons being pumped out by poorly maintained diesels. Only a fool would state that railways were better then than now. There is a place for heritage diesels though. The well maintained ones should be allowed on the mainline to "stretch their legs", while the ones that are in need of a major overhaul should remain out of public scrutiny on the heritage lines. Given the current ecomovement in Britain it is important the rail industry polices itself and removes "claggy" locos. Otherwise the green campaigners will simply add all diesel locomotives to the list of things they want banned!

Starting the video with a class 60 in the Petroleum sub-sector livery, you know it is going to be another great upload. Thks for sharing.

HST coming off the North London line? Nice show from the 37 moving off with the tanks.
Possibly ecs from WB/WCML Holyhead/Euston services, i think they were WR sets used on them, 43042/151 were PM Bristol based at this time.

i once spent 4 hrs at acton .. many many years ago ...
And four hours at Acton seem like years ...
It used to be a busy place for freight action....not sure what still runs these days.....
Excellent railway video as always Soi Buakhao.
Thank you......plenty more to come!
Hi Soi
Another video masterpiece!
Thank you....i can't believe it was 30 years ago....
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus i cant believe it either.
Feeling ancient! Haha.
I like the 60s loco
Yes, i liked them as well. They were warm & good locos to drive, plenty of power!
11:17 is that Turbo doing a test run because the first turbo in passenger service on the GWR was on 13th April 1992.
Yes, it looks like it. It stops but doesn't open the doors and pulls away again, so was proably brake handling for the drivers.....
I remember building the Turbo units at York 165 004 was a Chiltern unit so yes is probably on test/ training run
