I’m making my first bikini for myself and also for a friend (if all goes well) and I just needed to see a visual before reading the pattern instructions because sometimes those can be confusing. However, this video has really helped me a lot!!!
Thank you. This was the first video I have watched on making a bikini top ( I have watched at least 20 in the past week) and this one by far makes the most professional sewing sense. Thank you. I feel more confident to take my first step. Now if I could just find fabric that like.
Thank you for this...awesome tutorial. Can you explain when turning up the hem at the bottom portion how to sew it because i had to overlap on the curve, how did you make yours so perfectly flat with out having to kinda pleat it?
Hi! I'm glad you enjoyed the tutorial. You are right. It is a tricky operation. You will need to apply a little bit of tension to get the seam to lay flat while you are stitching (i.e. stretching it slightly while you sew). Don't stretch it too much, or the seam will wave. I hope this helps. Enjoy your sewing!
This is just what i have been looking for and i think i will be able to follow the steps ok. Thank you for taking the time to make the 2 part video. PS could you please explain to use how to measure ourselves to make our own patten for the Bikini .
Hi Hazel, drafting your own pattern can get tricky as bathing suits have what is called negative ease (the suit is actually smaller than your measurements so it fits snuggly). The hard thing is that the amount of negative ease completely depends on the specific fabrics you are using. I find it's usually easier to get a commercial sewing pattern and then measure a suit that fits the way you like and make slight adjustments on the pattern itself. That way all the complicated parts for ease etc. are all figured out but you can take in a bit or let out a little as needed to get the fit you would like. Hope this helps!
Hi Falak, glad you enjoyed the video! I would recommend a 'stretch' needle and an all purpose polyester thread. The type of machine we use is a Pfaff Ambition 1.0 but any sewing machine that can do a zigzag stitch would work for this project.
Sorry but the pattern we used was a packaged pattern you would need to purchase. I'm not sure if this pattern is still available, but we wanted to show everyone visual techniques on how to sew any bikini pattern.
