With Penny and Hammer, she goes for the (in his eyes) idiotic hero In reality, she goes for the man who not only helps people on a regular basis, but also saved her and who can help bring more publicly to the charity. Because unfortunately, people are more likely to throw money at something if it’s endorsed by someone they admire. Also, Hammer let’s Penny be her own person. Sure he may have tried to label her in the beginning, but that didn’t last long. Horrible doesn’t see how Hammer is, objectively, a better boyfriend, and to top it all off Horrible never even makes his intentions known to Penny. How was she supposed to know he was in love with her when he acted solely as a friend? It makes me think of guys who think they’re entitled to a woman’s affection because they were their friends, and then cry about the friendzone. Horrible is quite honestly, pathetic

That’s kind of true!... I feel like the friend sometimes. I can see how beautiful life is, how it is short and we must cherish it, but my friend does not see it through her depression and I wish I could understand her mindset
people like that need to learn how to help themselves and fix their own issues instead of relying on other people and not listening to their advice, just bringing them down with their constant pessimistic attitude.

Everyone talks about how horrible is right. But I think it’s truely takes a strong person to see the good in things. I’ve only heard this song in the musical so personally based on this I can’t say either is wrong or right. Horrible is taking the easy way out of just looking at the bad parts and penny is looking at the silver lining.

God, I remember watching this musical in middle school and I was so madly in love with it, but the entire thing really made me question my core beliefs. At the beginning, I had felt for Penny, I had that same sort of pure optimism, but by the end [/spoilers] Penny had died at the hand of Billy, or rather Dr. Horrible, and I started to question whether that was some kind of metaphor, for how hope would die. Returning back to it, though, I think both Penny and Horrible are both two extremes, and neither one of them are right or wrong ways to believe, we just need to find a way to settle in the middle and both view the world as beautiful and dangerous. Pessimism and Optimism are both extremes, Realism is more of the "middle ground" thinking.

THIS SONG. I feel like i sympathise a lot with Doctor Horrible. I myself don't hurt that badly, but I listen to the hearts of the people i love and hear that breaking sound. Well, I disagree. I don’t think Horrible sees Penny as anything more than a naïve, if good-hearted, idiot. We have to remember that we’re seeing everything through Horrible’s eyes, and that we’re seeing how he views the world. I think that Hammer, while self-centered and superficial, did start out as only seeing Penny as a pretty girl who cares about the homeless. However, as the story progresses, he actually starts going to the charity with her, bringing the charity itself more publicly. Which means more money. Which, ultimately, has a bigger impact than working the soup kitchen, which Horrible only did to appeal to Penny. And about Lily and Snape, he literally joined a group that wanted to kill people like her. That would essentially be the equivalent to being in love with a black person and then joining the KKK. That’s not love.

I don’t think Horrible sees Penny as anything more than a naïve, if good-hearted, idiot. We have to remember that we’re seeing everything through Horrible’s eyes, and that we’re seeing how he views the world.
I think that Hammer, while self-centered and superficial, did start out as only seeing Penny as a pretty girl who cares about the homeless. However, as the story progresses, he actually starts going to the charity with her, bringing the charity itself more publicly. Which means more money. Which, ultimately, has a bigger impact than working the soup kitchen, which Horrible only did to appeal to Penny.
And about Lily and Snape, he literally joined a group that wanted to kill people like her. That would essentially be the equivalent to being in love with a black person and then joining the KKK. That’s not love.
