They were all raised in the same orphanage. Their parents abandoned them because they were blind and people used to abandon blind children in the old days. They grew up together and sang together. This is amazing grace to the tune of house of the rising sun and it's one of the best. Played it at my grandpas funeral.
Met these guys about a month ago, they were all super chill and cool guys. Ray (bass) was amazing and the guy I got to hang with the most. He gave me tips on bass, and just flat out chilled with me for a solid 10 minutes answering questions and getting to know me better. These guys for sure don’t remember me, because our exchange was only about 20 minutes long, but I know I’ll remember them for the rest of my days. God bless ✌️
No the actually grew up with there parents but they went to a special school for deaf and blind kids.
I love that they did this to the tune of House of the Rising Sun. It works so well!
We are all blind in some way. It takes spiritually inspired artist like these to open our hearts so that we can see.
Rest in Peace, Clarence Fountain
Am I listening to "House of The Rising Sun"?
how could anyone give a thumbs down to this excellent rendition ?
He might be blind ,he ain't run out of air! . Bless him Lord Jesus!
LOVE the group song is kool its to the tune of HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN....AMEN.....
Their version of "Amazing Grace" is incredibly powerful, for three reasons: (1) The tune was an old Blues song, long before it was used for "House of the Rising Sun".
This was recorded the day after my sister died from ovarian cancer. I was only vaguely familiar with your work and first saw you (with Marc Cohn) 6 weeks after her death. When you sang this song in concert, I completely fell apart. It so deeply touched my heart. Thank you for the gift of music and its power to heal that you share with the world.
This is the best thing I've ever seen in my life.
I love this version of Amazing Grace ❤ I just found it today while looking for different versions of it. I'm facing the possibility of losing my 95 year old Grandma. She loves Amazing Grace.
First time listening 21/may/2024.
I saw them (with Morgan Freeman, no less) in the Guthrie Theatre's production of Gospel at Colonus in 1987 when I was a freshman in high school. The production was a revelation and remains my favorite live theatre production, 35 years later. In the Oedipus death scene, The Blind Boys of Alabama wore all white suits, surrounded a white grand piano, and were lowered into the stage while singing. The powerful visual memory is seared in my brain.
THE BEST, BEST PERFORMANCE, the bass, the drum, the keyboard, THE GUITAR SOLO !! THE VOICES, THE BEST !!
The first time I heard The Blind Boys of Alabama I was So Happy for them the struggles they had God pushed them on to a Better life and that's what God will do They are Wonderful and Amazing Grace is Real ✌️❤️ to y'all
God lives through people like this.
I've sung in churches and gospel programs most of my 68 years and, to be honest, I was bored singing Amazing Grace. I love this version. My church wouldn't be able to handle it, but it's refreshing for me.
