It's the same feeling when TV shows used to be 1h episodes once a week instead of 40min x 8 episode binge on Netflix or similar and you actually looked forward to each one :D
"1h episodes once a week instead of 40min x 8 episode binge" TV had commercial breaks baked into that runtime. A 30 minute time slot (which as far as I recall was the typical show length, I wasn't aware of anything I watched as a kid in the 80s/90s having a 1 hour time slot) would have something like 21-22 minutes of actual show in it. So a 40-something minute production is actually consistent with what a TV network would have wanted the show to be to fit commercials into it in a 1 hour time slot. The only time something in a 1 hour time slot would actually properly be a full hour in length would be if you had cable and it was something on one of the premium channels like Cinemax, HBO, etc. But yeah, with TV the standard was a one episode per week release schedule (except they might skip a week around certain holidays) for something like 20-40 episodes, and things like Tivo / DVRs didn't exist yet so you had to either catch each one as it was airing or set up a VCR to record on a timer and hope that nothing interrupts it while you're away. And now Netflix and many of the other services available now like to just dump a (relatively short) complete season all at once, and viewers can binge the whole thing in one sitting whenever they feel like it. The binge experience isn't necessarily a "bad" thing but it's certainly a very different experience from the shows that took a significant chunk of a year to fill out a season.

omg, the moment I saw the runtime of the video, I KNEW that it was going to be 95% TCG, hahaha I love seeing how quickly and how passionate people became over Beef's game, the true Nerdcraft coming out right here 💚
I almost get brought to tears seeing the excitement from everyone with this TCG, and all the praise Beef has been getting! He missed out basically all season working away on this massive project and it’s playing out even better that I would have thought 😭 so strangely proud of him and his work
He spent most of the season as a man on a deserted island seeing only keralis and Xb rarely, and now is in every video as the master of the new addiction and one of the coolest games ever
For sure. I had resigned myself that the game was taking so long, it was a non-starter... I couldn't reconcile the ambition, and the apparent payoff. but wow, are people showing the effort (and suspense) put in is appreciated! I guess it's not over til it's over.
xB was at one of Pearl's matches, so she had him say "ohhhh yeaaahhhh" when she attacked with his card's "Ohh Yeaah" move ^_^ The TCG is gonna make a lot of fun videos with all the Hermits!
Minor backseat gaming: Beef's special puts out the burning status effect and cures the poison one! I think Cleo is keeping a few Beefs (Beeves?) in place of water and milk bucket effect cards, so he's a pretty useful card depending on your play style!
FOR DECK BUILDING: The rare Beef card would be a good choice for versing a rare Etho. The rare Etho does Blue Fire which burns the active hermit for +20hp and it keeps burning until you are knocked out, even if you go AFK the effect continues. Vintage Beef’s rare card move Beefy Tunes removes the status effects from active and AFK hermits. So if you know someone is building a strong Etho deck, having a few VintageBeefs in your deck will be a big advantage to save you from that passive damage each turn, if you win the coin toss that is ;D
Beef derailed so many projects with the TCG. I love how stuck in you guys have gotten, with Hermits hunched over their “trade binders” wheeling and dealing. Takes me back to when I played Magic.
1:27:23 Beefy Tunes removes burning or poisoning. What you described is XB's rare card effect, "Noice!". Although not too useful right now, as time goes on, you'll probably see more decks strategize around using fire & poison to inflict heavy damage, which will be easily countered by Beef.
noticed that too, status effect are downside effects that your own hermits are undergoing, so poisoning or burning. I wonder if it stops sleeping though (for bdubs for example) ?
I'm in a discord with that cosplayer and she is freaking out over this recognition lol, the whole server is in fact. She deserves the recognition the cosplay is seriously insane, and I've seen it irl even!
I am loving all the TCG madness and your matches/trash-talking has been a major contributor to my enjoyment of livestreams, especially this new ill-advised provoking of Cleo which led to the funniest livestream moment this morning where everyone was laughing so hard on Cleo’s chat as well of all the hermits present! The games allow for buckets of laughter; Beef really achieved something special here. I for one would love to watch unedited footage of all the matches! Do you have a second channel? Or you could upload them unlisted like Beef does. And I can’t wait for your return to livestreaming! Your streams were always fantastic. I’ve got my notifs on!
2023 is the year of the games. Anvil wars have broken out, now we've got months of TCG madness ahead of us, and as soon as that new car smell starts to wear off, Decked Out will be ready.
You might need to talk to Beef about the Joe card. He may (I don't know) have intended to make is to that after successfully using "Time Skip", the Joe card can only use the weaker "Grow Hills" attack next turn, not even using the "Time Skip" damage, but with no effect applied.
That, or if not then the time skip ability should do less damage or no damage if the skip is successful and can do full damage when it is not successful/on cooldown. Otherwise, it's just too much damage every turn with a powerful effect every other in a single card. It's fine that the card is powerful, but the damage factor breaks it. Also, making it so that it may be used again if the effect is unsuccessful makes the Joe card UBER broken, lol. I love how Jev even admits it's broken! Oof! 😅
I got the honor of walking the cosplay catwalk with Larissa in her cosplay of you and gotta confirm that its amazing!! I also really appreciate that you appreciate cosplay on the same level as fanart! It often gets overlooked but imo deserves just as much praise :) so thanks Doc!
It's almost been a year since beef's started his Hermitcraft TCG. I'm so happy seeing beef and other hermits get together to play, and becoming really attached to their cards. His effort this whole season really paid off. I can't wait to see you play it again another episode or maybe on stream
As a friend of the cosplayer and, coincidentally, also the photographer of those pics- Months. She poured her heart and soul into it! The recognition she's getting for it now is just downright amazing, and utterly deserved on top of that
What are you talking about? Dropping anvils on heads and firing a creeper railgun at Grian and planning to vaporise Scar and his armour with a death ray are _totally_ interactions with the community XD
You have no idea the glee I felt to see this video is an hour and a half. Keep up the good work! Us fans are really enjoying the content. Beef did a great job, and I'm excited to see where tcg leads the plot of this season
I can't speak for everyone, but I love watching the full TCG matches. On streams or separate videos, I have been really enjoying watching the whole matches individually!
I would love to see how it would look if Doc built a TCG arena in his base! I want to see the same layout of the “tabletop” in as many styles as possible, I think it would be really cool
I really appreciate that today's thumbnail guy actually made it accurate. His face is mecha on left side while body is mecha on right side🙂 Not that i don't like others but it just made it more satisfying 🙃 Also i am so hyped for tcg games
Just commenting to say that I skipped the first TCG match ONLY because I was *too excited to wait* and watched it on Cleo's VOD. So if there is a dip in retention just keep people like me in mind! Loving the TCG, all the work you are doing, and the awesome artwork from the community. It is all so exciting!
The SKILL of that anvil drop on Cleo xD IMPRESSIVE! Loving watching you all enjoy Beef's game tbh! It has been so much fun watching you all play and cheese over the cards♥ It's been a blast watching and can't wait to see the different matches
Joe’s timeskip ability is super strong. Skipping a whole turn where you can build your board and attacking twice is probably the best thing you can do.
@Ethereal Carnival this was what I was wondering! They definitely misunderstood the wording, although I think it was on purpose. If you've played any card game ever you'd know that stretching the rules happens all the time- and in this particular case, the person doc was going up against was on the defense, and hadn't been rolling any good cards. It's not that big a deal but I think cleo should've been able to catch it if she's going to ref these matches.
That Anvil kill by Doc on Cloe from Doc's pov makes it that much more awesome and great he set that up so good and just waited for it then that look up from Ren chefs kiss
Hey doc. I’ve been playing card games for a while and one thing I learnt is that your opening hand and draw consistency is what wins you the game a lot of the time. So I’d recommend for you to experiment and figure out what cards are your win conditions in your deck and which ones serve to get you there. Having multiple copies of amazing cards like hypno would definitely work really well since it doubles your chances of drawing him in a game even though you might not play both.
I would need to see all the cards to give game-specific hints and tips, but some general-use concepts to throw at *any* competitive TCG are as follows: 1] Half the game is played between your mind and your opponent. Vocal tells, reactions to draws, etc. can all make or break a game if the opponent is savvy - and that goes just as much for them as for you. 2] Building the deck is fun, but always make sure you have your Win Condition clear - since there's only two win conditions (wipe the opponent's field or take out three Hermits), build heavily towards taking out targets as fast as possible - given the synergies and items system, this means that types that are good vs multiple others are better than ones which are only good vs one type. 3] Never hesitate to sacrifice a Hermit (other than your last one) if it will cost the opponent dearly - it's better to take a big hit on a near-death Hermit than it is to swap out and take it on a fresh one, unless this would lose you the game. 4] Memorize every single card you come across to the best of your ability - write them down off to the side if you have to, so you have a repository of information to weaponize at the drop of a hat, letting you react faster than your opponents, and come up with better strategies because you know your cards and yours opponents' interactions before they can come up with a plan for them. 5] Always thank your opponent after the match, because they are your friends and this is a game and everyone is meant to have fun. Connected to this, don't feel bad about throwing a game if you're destroying your opponent and they aren't having fun - calling it quits for both of you when they're only playing to satisfy your desire to play, it changes from a game to a chore.
As soon as you pulled out the multiple bows against etho I realized just how powerful the attacking AFK hermits strat is. Opponents have to choose between leaving AFK hermits vulnerable and benching early having to spend the energy to power up another hermit. And you would also be exploiting your opponents inability to attack when switching out to effectively get two attacks sometimes.
is that how Doc won? if you knock out an AFK hermit you win? I'm totally confused how Doc won. i've never played card games before so i'm barely keeping up
@@RenatoJones The winning conditions are 1. Eliminate 3 opposing Hermits 2. Knock out an opponents Hermit when they don't have a Hermit in their hand to replace it, or 3. Opponent runs out of cards
I'm just your average mtg player who has competed in a few prereleases. But here are my thoughts on some of the cards Stress: Yolo costing 3 seems too high. It's only good if you are already ahead, which will be difficult to achieve consistently if you need to spend 4 of your cards on something that doesn't help you get ahead without the big attack. Joe: Skipping opponents turns is op even if they get to draw crads. TFC: That is my favorite card. 2 cost for 80 damage + 50/50 to draw a card. Seems really strong Cubfan: Let's go seems strong, but 260hp and only 40 basic attack is a bit unfortunate Iskall: OP if you know you'll play against builder types. Wouldn't play him if I know my opponents aren't playing builders Scar: Looks like an unreliable stall hermit. But I'd always play XB over him if my deck is the right type XB: If effect cards become popular I would definitely enjoy having him. Stats on the card look ok with a 70 attack that is really easy to get the items for TFC (not rare): solid stats, nothing wrong here. But I would use a hermit with a 2 cost 80 instead if all other stats were equal Splash potion of healing: Looks really bad when it heals less than the weakest attacks do as damage (I know it can heal multiple hermits, still a big no) Composter: You loose 3 cards to get 2 (2 from ability + the card itself), that's bad value. The baseline in mtg is 1 card lost for 1 card drawn. I would avoid using anything that costs more cards than it gives. That's just negative tempo Iron armor: staying there forever is good, looks really strong. It being there for 5 attacks is already like 100 extra max hp Bows and diamond swords: They look good. My guess is that bows are slightly better, but I could see myself being wrong here TNT: I like it a lot. It can often be used in the same situations as diamond swords without the downside being impactful + it has good synergy with iron armor Crossbow: Just a better diamond sword X: I like the 60 basic attack on a 300 HP hermit, but would still use a 2 cost 80 over a 3 cost 90 Beef: Good HP with a 2 cost 80 attack with an upside. Good card. Golden armor: Like Splash potion of healing, but works only on 1 Hermit. BAD Other XB: Normal stats. I like the 2 cost 80 Chorus fruit: Seems good, can save you in tricky situations, but requires you to already have a decent boardstate Rendog: A 3 cost that is random. No thanks when the other stats are not good Etho: I like my 2 cost 80 attacks with upsides Hypno: Attacking anything is good, and the basic attack dealing 60 is really nice since you can still do good damage after using the strong attack on an afk hermit. One of the stronger hermits Curse of vanishing: Needs opponent to use strong effect cards. Depends a lot on the opponents deck. So not a staple
A huge thank you to Beefers for creating such a cool game. The time and effort that this took is incredible. Also a thank you to the hermits for embracing Hermit TCG and sharing it with us too. 👏🏼👏🏼
NOSTALGIA! I used to watch you back in like 2014 or something and the algorithm just came up with this video. Will definitely check it out when I come home from work!! Much love.
Oh boy oh boy oh boy, you've been missing out on the bonkers antics Doc has gotten up to, including but not limited to: a rail gun, a grenade launcher and very unusual pets.
This would be too addictive for me. If I was a Hermit, this would end my season. All projects abandoned and I’d be obsessed. With the collecting to get them all and deck tweaking trying to improve. 😂
I would love a Hermit TCG Channel, where all the games are uploaded! Makes it easy to find for those who want to watch, and keeps the streams of people who don’t clear. Personally, I love the game and would want to watch all matches, but I only watch a few hermits these days.
When Impulse uploads his VOD from today on ImpulseSV2 he has two matches on the stream and Jevin explaining deck building to him. He plays Joe first and then Gem.
Since you probably don't have enough cards for a really coherent strategy just yet, I would probably just focus on whichever hermit types you have the most good cards for and maybe build a deck with two types that complement each other's weaknesses on the strength/weakness chart. And items like armor and tnt can earn you victory points quickly while denying them to the opponent, which can snowball into an easy win. Especially if you knock out their hermits before they can get all their resources on their next one. For item numbers (balance of hermits vs resources vs use items): The worst opening hand you can get is probably one where you have only 1 hermit in your opening hand. If it's 0 you can mulligan, so 1 is the worst case. When that happens, you want to have a good chance of drawing another hermit in 3 turns, before the first hermit is knocked out. So you've drawn 1 hermit and 6 other cards, meaning there are 35 cards left in the deck at that point. If you want to draw 1 hermit in the next 3 turns , that means you should have at least 11 more hermits in your deck to have ~1/3rd hermits left. With the 1 hermit you started with, that would be 12 hermits. You might want more, but it's a good baseline starting point. If you run 12 hermits, you will probably want 12-24 resource cards, 1-2 for each hermit. More than that seems like overkill because you wouldn't have enough room for effect cards in your deck. So that would leave 6-18 slots for effect cards. Let's say you use 18 resource cards and 12 effect cards. tl;dr math says 12 hermits, 18 resource cards, and 12 effect cards would be a decent place to start for balancing. Maybe feel it out from there. Depending on how strong effect cards turn out to be, you might want to add more and just risk not drawing enough other cards if that risk is worth it. If you want more math, like say the chance of having 3 resource cards in your opening hand, look up "hypergeometric distribution" and figure that one out lol. I'm not going to bother with that right now :D
So I think your math is fine but you didn't calc the odds of drawing items did you, also you can only have a max of 7 hermits out at a time, so I'm pretty sure there's another worse case senerio for doc if he goes with your setup, which is that he draws too many hermits. At the moment doc's running 8H 21i 13E. I don't think he should take out any effect cards, because you kinda wanna be playing them every turn or 2, and the item to hermit ratio seems to be working for him so far. Not to mention the fact that TFC a card he has 2 of, increases his draw rate.
Okay, so let's start with the risk of drawing too many hermits. We need to know how long games will last for that to be an issue. If you play 15 resources cards to fill out your board, that would be 15 turns of a game. It seems games usually don't even last long enough for that, but maybe an especially long game could last ~18 turns (keep in mind, this is just a number I picked on intuition to represent the worst case scenario of a game going pretty long). If you're unlucky, 3 non-hermit cards could go in the ante as well. I'm not sure if it's even fair to calculate that, because it could just as well be 3 hermit cards going in there, but again we're thinking worst case scenario here... So you have a 39 card deck with 12 hermits in there and you're drawing 25 cards (7 cards opening hand + 18 turns). 25/39 = ~64% 12 * 0.64 = ~7.7 So you should expect to draw 8 hermits in that case. 8 * 0.64 = ~5 So yeah, I guess the answer is somewhere between 8 and 12 hermits to avoid both worst case scenarios. So lets say 10 hermits might be ideal. And again, I admit that's based on some pretty shaky assumptions, so this is really still just meant as a starting point to get an idea of what could be right. As for the other cards, there are again two ways to look at it: ideally, you want to play both a resource card and an effect card every turn. So given that, you might say he should run 16 of each and call it a day. The other way to think about it is that each hermit has a secondary ability that you want to use with that hermit, and it costs 2-3 resources per hermit. So then you would want to play 2-3 resource cards per hermit card. But I think we can immediately understand that that is just too many because you won't draw enough effect cards then. But let's give an answer of 2x the amount of hermits, so if you run 10 hermits you would want 20 resource cards going by this logic. (this also raises the question of how useful it is to have a secondary attack that costs 2 resources vs 3. How much more powerful does the 3-cost need to be to balance being less reliable? Can you get away with running more effect cards if you have hermits whose secondary attack only costs 2 resources? But I don't even know how to get started on calculating that) So again, the answer is probably somewhere between those two answers. Somewhere between 16 and 20. But in this case, my intuition is leaning pretty heavily toward 16 being closer to the right amount than 20. *TL;DR* So now I'm saying 10 hermits, 17-18 resource cards, and 14-15 effect cards. And again, I am absolutely not sure about any of this lol. But yeah, squeezing in some more effect cards does seem like a good thing if you can get away with it (compared to my previous prediction) One more thing: card draw obviously helps a lot. Not sure about all the card draw cards available yet. The composter card seems bad because it trades 3 cards for 2, although it does get through your deck faster if you need to find an extra strong card or combo. But ideally, you don't want to use it. The flint and steel seems a bit overpowered but you don't want to use it early on so it doesn't help with letting you play fewer hermits...
A proper endboss for the TCG should have their own arena. You should definitely build your own custom area with some crazy Hivemind stuff in the perimeter!
Balancing ideas for Joe 1. Make it 4 items to activate time skip. I.e. they have to use a double item so make it harder to use... 2. Make it so it discards two items per use of time skip. 3. If successful cannot use time skip at all next turn. Prefer the idea of discarding the items to kinda shelf him for a turn at least.

Why am I not surprised that Doc has the most natural understanding of what's meta out of the Hermits? Also mad props to beef for the amount of effort that went into this whole thing. So much more than a card game, and so worth making!
Although you didn't show it, I loved the game you played against Etho. It had everything: Trash talking, live haiku reading, small fistfight, and a last minute comeback to keep everyone on their toes.
I think you have to remove a bow, if I'm not mistaken, you can only have up to 3 copies of a card, besides from common items. You might take crossbows, they deal less damage to the afk hermit, but more damage in total. Or some chorus fruits to be able to swap hermit's and make even more surprise attacks. About Joe's card, if you look at Pearl's, her special gives a chance of missing and says that the part about missing can't happen two consecutive times, but doesn't say that the attack can't be used consecutively. Joe's say that the ability can't be used consecutively after it works, so it might be interesting to ask Beef how it works, because my interpretation would be that after skipping he would need to use the primary attack, dealing less damage. The problem with Scar's special is that you can't really count on it, because you have to flip a coin. I would say that it is better to play him early, if possible, so you can adapt to the result. Bdubs would be good with diamond armour or above and lava buckets or splash potions of poison. It would allow you to kill the opponent without attacking, but it would be necessary to do some math to check if it is viable. Beef's special removes poison and burning, it does not remove effect cards. Another thing to ask Beef is if Stress' special would give a point to the opponent or not. I would say that your strategy is quite solid.
Hey Doc, this is just an idea but perhaps you can build "special" decks for playing against particular hermits. Meaning like, card types versus their "typical" card types after you've played them before & have a general idea what they have. Maybe then, you can also surprise them with a totally different deck as well as a side benefit. You know, something like the "Mimic" of Rendog versus his Time Skip; to like ... Time Skip Jevin back, for example. Also; one thing I noticed with that game versus Jevin, is that he seemed to have a lot more "ITEM" cards available than you had versus your Single Use Items. There definitely is a balancing act between counts of how many of each you place in your deck so you can actually have the "stamina" of a long match. Perhaps the Hive Mind could crunch some statistics numbers for you for an optimal balanced deck.
I'm so glad Beefs time wasn't wasted and the other hermits really care about his game. For your future content, I personally, am super down to watch you guys play each other and build your decks and what not. I don't think you'll lose views. I've never even played a card game like this but I'm loving it
hey doc, really love your videos. I would like to make a suggestion: i think it would be incredibly awesome if you had your own TCG battle room in the hall of goats where you could invite other players to for private matches because you are THE TCG Endboss. like a secret gamblin room.

he is giving movie production companies a run for their money
omg, the moment I saw the runtime of the video, I KNEW that it was going to be 95% TCG, hahaha
I love seeing how quickly and how passionate people became over Beef's game, the true Nerdcraft coming out right here 💚
Wonder if we could get a the cards in the real world. I would collect em all😋
I almost get brought to tears seeing the excitement from everyone with this TCG, and all the praise Beef has been getting!
I really love how Joe does voice lines for all of his cards. It's delightful.
xB was at one of Pearl's matches, so she had him say "ohhhh yeaaahhhh" when she attacked with his card's "Ohh Yeaah" move ^_^ The TCG is gonna make a lot of fun videos with all the Hermits!
I love how quiet the hermits are while playing the game, they are focusing so hard and you can feel how intense the card battling is going.

I mean, he has been doing that. Look at his Twitter lol
Content for the next episode's thumbnail fanart?
Minor backseat gaming: Beef's special puts out the burning status effect and cures the poison one! I think Cleo is keeping a few Beefs (Beeves?) in place of water and milk bucket effect cards, so he's a pretty useful card depending on your play style!
Your tweets about the new tcg obsession have been making me so excited to see the content!! I love this game so so much, Beef has done amazingly.
Hope you enjoy it!
memento mori
FOR DECK BUILDING: The rare Beef card would be a good choice for versing a rare Etho. The rare Etho does Blue Fire which burns the active hermit for +20hp and it keeps burning until you are knocked out, even if you go AFK the effect continues. Vintage Beef’s rare card move Beefy Tunes removes the status effects from active and AFK hermits. So if you know someone is building a strong Etho deck, having a few VintageBeefs in your deck will be a big advantage to save you from that passive damage each turn, if you win the coin toss that is ;D
I think joe has rare etho
Doc should put a useable TCG board on the other side of the elevator from his strategy room to make it symmetrical.
Beef derailed so many projects with the TCG. I love how stuck in you guys have gotten, with Hermits hunched over their “trade binders” wheeling and dealing. Takes me back to when I played Magic.
Beef has done such a phenomenal job with this game!
Nothing like a bit of rain in your card shop to set the mood 😆 Thanks for posting another motion picture, I'm SO HYPE for the TCG!

Yea, the first scene with the card shop I was like, why is it raining inside? That's just bad architecture. Especially for a shop that sells cards...

You might need to talk to Beef about the Joe card. He may (I don't know) have intended to make is to that after successfully using "Time Skip", the Joe card can only use the weaker "Grow Hills" attack next turn, not even using the "Time Skip" damage, but with no effect applied.
Definitely, I’m sure Jev has been misinterpreting it
That, or if not then the time skip ability should do less damage or no damage if the skip is successful and can do full damage when it is not successful/on cooldown.
Oof! 😅
Yeah, that's how I'm interpreting the card as well. "You can't use Time Skip if it worked last turn".
Yep, Jevin definitely shouldn't have been allowed to do 90 damage in the second of his consecutive turns.
It is always a good Doc video when he spends the first few minutes geeking out over fan creations.

What a wonderful episode, I haven't watched it yet but I know it's a banger
Same
I would need to see all the cards to give game-specific hints and tips, but some general-use concepts to throw at *any* competitive TCG are as follows:
1] Half the game is played between your mind and your opponent.
I'm totally confused how Doc won. i've never played card games before so i'm barely keeping up
@@RenatoJones The winning conditions are
1. Eliminate 3 opposing Hermits
2. Knock out an opponents Hermit when they don't have a Hermit in their hand to replace it, or
3. Opponent runs out of cards

I'm just your average mtg player who has competed in a few prereleases.
But here are my thoughts on some of the cards
Stress: Yolo costing 3 seems too high.
Seems really strong
Cubfan: Let's go seems strong, but 260hp and only 40 basic attack is a bit unfortunate
Iskall: OP if you know you'll play against builder types. Wouldn't play him if I know my opponents aren't playing builders
Scar: Looks like an unreliable stall hermit. But I'd always play XB over him if my deck is the right type
XB: If effect cards become popular I would definitely enjoy having him. Stats on the card look ok with a 70 attack that is really easy to get the items for
TFC (not rare): solid stats, nothing wrong here. But I would use a hermit with a 2 cost 80 instead if all other stats were equal
Splash potion of healing: Looks really bad when it heals less than the weakest attacks do as damage (I know it can heal multiple hermits, still a big no)
Composter: You loose 3 cards to get 2 (2 from ability + the card itself), that's bad value. The baseline in mtg is 1 card lost for 1 card drawn. I would avoid using anything that costs more cards than it gives. That's just negative tempo
Iron armor: staying there forever is good, looks really strong. It being there for 5 attacks is already like 100 extra max hp
Bows and diamond swords: They look good. My guess is that bows are slightly better, but I could see myself being wrong here
TNT: I like it a lot. It can often be used in the same situations as diamond swords without the downside being impactful + it has good synergy with iron armor
Crossbow: Just a better diamond sword
X: I like the 60 basic attack on a 300 HP hermit, but would still use a 2 cost 80 over a 3 cost 90
Beef: Good HP with a 2 cost 80 attack with an upside. Good card.
Golden armor: Like Splash potion of healing, but works only on 1 Hermit. BAD
Other XB: Normal stats. I like the 2 cost 80
Chorus fruit: Seems good, can save you in tricky situations, but requires you to already have a decent boardstate
Rendog: A 3 cost that is random. No thanks when the other stats are not good
Etho: I like my 2 cost 80 attacks with upsides
Hypno: Attacking anything is good, and the basic attack dealing 60 is really nice since you can still do good damage after using the strong attack on an afk hermit. One of the stronger hermits
Curse of vanishing: Needs opponent to use strong effect cards. Depends a lot on the opponents deck. So not a staple
Yeeees just what I needed right now. Thank you for doing what you do and letting us be a part of it :)
Bundles: Have built in counting feature.
Doc: Overcomplicated redstone contraption.
Time skip definitely needs a nerf lol. Even having the downside of not being able to use it as an attack at all the turn after using it would help.
You can clearly see his slow descent I to tcg addiction in this video. Good case study

Council of docs. Ranging from farmer to evil genius lol. Love it 😊
Since you probably don't have enough cards for a really coherent strategy just yet, I would probably just focus on whichever hermit types you have the most good cards for and maybe build a deck with two types that complement each other's weaknesses on the strength/weakness chart.
And items like armor and tnt can earn you victory points quickly while denying them to the opponent, which can snowball into an easy win. Especially if you knock out their hermits before they can get all their resources on their next one.
For item numbers (balance of hermits vs resources vs use items):
The worst opening hand you can get is probably one where you have only 1 hermit in your opening hand.
25/39 = ~64%
12 * 0.64 = ~7.7
So you should expect to draw 8 hermits in that case.
8 * 0.64 = ~5
So yeah, I guess the answer is somewhere between 8 and 12 hermits to avoid both worst case scenarios.
But I don't even know how to get started on calculating that)
So again, the answer is probably somewhere between those two answers.
But yeah, squeezing in some more effect cards does seem like a good thing if you can get away with it (compared to my previous prediction)
One more thing: card draw obviously helps a lot.
Ah, the tcg addiction is real, and so fun. Also love the showing off of the fanart and the cosplay.
A proper endboss for the TCG should have their own arena. You should definitely build your own custom area with some crazy Hivemind stuff in the perimeter!
Every match is just Heart Wrenching! Really really love the tension
Balancing ideas for Joe

Am I watching this in my Spanish class..?
Yes !
And the cosplay of yourself is Lovely !
Oh boy time for a feature-length film from the goat
I'm so glad Beefs time wasn't wasted and the other hermits really care about his game. For your future content, I personally, am super down to watch you guys play each other and build your decks and what not. I don't think you'll lose views. I've never even played a card game like this but I'm loving it
It would be nice to see footage of you opening the boosters. That's the best part.
hey doc, really love your videos.
I would like to make a suggestion: i think it would be incredibly awesome if you had your own TCG battle room in the hall of goats where you could invite other players to for private matches because you are THE TCG Endboss. like a secret gamblin room.
