Man, do I miss the original King Kong animatronic that used to be on the backlot tour. I feel fortunate to have experienced that tram segment before the tragic 2008 backot fire. Wish they'd bring it back.
The first time I rode that tram was 1984. They had Cylons from Battlestar Galactica fighting Colonial Warriors in the room that eventually had the earthquake and water flooding in. The spinning Six Million Dollar Man tunnel was the highlight of the tram tour for 15 year old me. You could also "lift up" the A-Team van and stand next to the Magnum PI Ferrari back then.
My roommate was a tour guide back in the early 70's. That's when you could tour Lucy Balls' dressing room and New York Street was still dressed from shooting Earthquake. A friend of ours also a guide, at Christmas was dressed up as Santa Claus just to wave at tourists on the trams. At the end of the day when he took his wig off he discovered it was the same wig Charlton Heston wore in the Ten Commandments.
I remember taking the tram tour in '86 when the tram would stop for a few minutes and let everyone off to go check out some movie props. They had the big, oversized chair and telephone, but my favorite by far was the A-team van with a counterweight on it so you could push it over. All the little boys like me were taking turns pushing it.
Rick (at 10:49) in the video is a guy I used to work with on the Universal lot. His name is Rick Alvarez...he and I used to drove the pumper trucks that pumped out the portable toilets/rest rooms that are on the sets. It's great to see that he still is working there...I got injured and had to switch jobs a few years ago. It's funny, a couple of the Production Assistants from one of the shows used to call us the "Doo Doo Dudes."
I miss the ice tunnel, and the shaky bridge. My first trip when I was 5 they had an elephant rides, props from Land of the Giants, and before leaving the special effects building you met H. R Pufnstuff.
I’ve been a fan of your channel for quite some time. I’m happy that you are friends with both The Philly Captain and @malfuncsean. I’ve never been to Universal Hollywood, but I have been to Universal Studios Orlando several times while visiting family. I really miss the Kongfrontation ride and Jaws. I remember being on the Jaws ride when I was 9 in 1997 and then getting stuck in a mini boat ride on the lagoon at the Grand Floridian the next day. It freaked me out. Thanks again for the great content.
I love your Universal Backlot tour videos. Great to see Kurt ! Shout out to the tram drivers : they are always so fun and positive. Great ambassadors for the park.
I’m so glad that I was able to ride the original King Kong portion of the tram tour! Hate that they went to screens but they didn’t plan for what happened! Hope to run into you someday Adam the WOO!
I went on one of the early tours as a kid, then took my step sons when they were young, but haven't been back to Universal since. I'm rarely in that vicinity anymore. Thanks for the video.
Oh, I must’ve missed you there! I had a 5:30 slot - we definitely stopped at the court house with Doc & the DeLorean AND saw the new dinosaur refresh. They must’ve skipped portions later in the day?? 🤔 This was such a great experience. Can’t wait to do it again when it opens up for the general public. Awesome Vlog as always! 👏👏🎉🎉
Have been going to Universal Tours since the 60's and am glad, unlike a lot of other amusement parks, they have kept a lot of the original parts of the trams tour although the other attractions have been replaced over the years but most everything is well worth the time and money in my opinion, being a movie fanatic that I am! Loved the Norman Bates photo, lol!
Good morning Adam, finally your video is up. I know ur in the West Coast not me im in the south, waiting all morning for Adam to see video lol. Thanks for sharing this. 😎📸✌️
My favourite vids u do r the universal 1s as it's my favourite place, I need to go to the LA 1 as I've done Orlando a few times so when u do LA it gives me an insight into the main head quarters of universal, keep up the good work Ad
A tram crashed a couple days ago. Looks like it happened on that left turn from the Jurassic park sets to the flash flood area. Apparently it had brake issues and the back end of the tram crashed and whipped against the rail. 15 people were injured.
When I went to Universal Studios in 1984, it was only the tram ride. There were certain spots you'd get off the Tram and could spend some time doing different things. I remember seeing the Psycho House which was really cool.
Maybe my memory back but I remember to trames being blue and white back in the 80s. And going to orlando disney world to epcot go in to see star wars stuff
Glad to see you back here in So Cal. Great vid as always. They probably Hill Valley / Dinosaur area because of the accident recently in that area. The incident is under investigation so no trams are permitted. This is also the reason that a non-themed tram was used, because the damaged tram is out of service, and part of the investigation.
@@TheDailyWoo Sometimes injured families including 11yr old children take precedence over 49 year old children not getting to see “hilly valley” for the umpteenth time. Insensitive putz.
It's weird to think that Universal would finally start caring for Woody Woodpecker in the park after leaving him absent for so long. Not counting the Netflix sequel.
I can't wait to experience this! Adam, I have noticed the lines in the videos when it comes to the photo opportunities during the tram. I want to plan this out to get pictures with everything. How long do they give us to get pictures and get back to the tram?
Used to sneak onto the backlot when I was a teen and pretend I worked there to see things being filmed. Took the tram tour for years before the fire but haven't been back since. Missing Prop Plaza. Loved the King Kong animatronic. So much better than gorilla-on-a-wire from way back.
I did the preview event last week. Your experience seemed like it was cut a little short. Hopefully they'll have everything worked out by tomorrow - official opening day 🎉
Did you know that the facade above the tanker truck in the Earthquake scene of the tour, was the old facade used in the original King Kong ride from back in the 90's?
@TheDailyWoo Adam, I did the pass preview on April 23rd. We did go through the clock tour area, got to see Doc and the car. They did a video on tram with 2 actors from movie talking about the filming . But we didn’t do the earthquake area. Or the jurassic Park cars area. I’ll be going again in a few weeks to see how they are doing the tour after the official start.
Hey Adam 🤗 I’d love to do this tour and visit Cali at some point in the future. It looks like so much fun but can appreciate for someone like you who knows so much already how it could have been a bit underwhelming (this specific one I mean) xx
🌴🌴😉 Yes Adam 2 answer 2 your question, yes the tramcar U were questioning because the seat's were facing the opposite way! Those trams were used on tour since the 70's I know I myself and family rode on them back in 1975 we did the tour lol. My how things changed 😯
I actually saw the Gold plated Johnny 5 robot when I took the tour at the Universal tour down in Florida back in the mid 90's. I wonder if its still their?😮
ADAM! Just read an update about the 60th anniversary backlot tour. Doc Brown and the DeLorean will be featured near the clock tower. Bummed you couldn’t see it but glad that it will be a part of the tour 😊
Leave a comment novel....Wow has time flown by. My 1st tour of Universal Studios was 1977. Adam, you were 3 years old. It was a Studio Tour then, no theme park yet. There’s so much I remember and have some pictures of our Classic Red Tour Mobile. We did go over the classic collapsing bridge. The parting of the Red Sea was the highlight. They also had the castle from “The Warlords” there, a movie about bad haircuts. Jaws was new and the Orca, where Spielberg used to go and think (Night Gallery), was there with the 3 yellow drums. Certainly, the Psycho House. But there was a lot of 70’s productions going on. They had just finished a little know Henry Winkler filmed called “Heroes”. They were in the middle of filming “Airport ‘77”. Shows like Marcus Welby and the last version of My Three Sons was winding down and “Columbo” and “Quincy” were in full swing. We cruised through those 2 sets and saw Columbo’s Mercedes and Quincy’s Ford ME wagon. We also ran through the new “rolling” tunnel that was created for an ABC Monday Night at The Movies production called “Avalanche.” Forgettable. Seeing Boo Radley's house just blew me away! When we got off the tour at the props area, they had chariots from “Ben Hur” and a stunt van from the “6 Million Dollar Man” where you could actually lift a van up on its side with one hand and a giant phone later used in Lily Tomlin's 1981 "Amazing Shrinking Woman? On the way out we got free tickets for filming of a show called “One Day at a Time” at KTLA Studios with Bonnie Franklin (RIP), Pat Harrington(RIP), Mackenzie Phillips (American Graffiti) and newcomer Valerie Bertinelli. You had to promise you would not blow it off. We didn’t. We could have gone to “Card Sharks” hosted by David Letterman but we had been watching ODAT and had no idea who Letterman would be. Love these studio tours. I sent copies of my pictures and 1977 Studio map to Justin since he’s into the theme park histories. Thanks
My AP preview i give aq B-. Did you notice in Earthquake, it is not as shaky? I did the 7p preview on Monday and no Doc Brown. He was at the entrance to toe line que to the tour.
They should have brought back the collapsing bridge, and parting sea. I went to the preview.. basically the same except for a few photo ops in front behind bates motel.
Man, do I miss the original King Kong animatronic that used to be on the backlot tour. I feel fortunate to have experienced that tram segment before the tragic 2008 backot fire. Wish they'd bring it back.
I wish they would too . I’m not into the screen version at all
I was going to say the same thing. Totally agree! It was amazing in person
@@StinkyGringo I was eleven the only time I saw the King Kong animatronic, so it would be great to see an animatronic again one day.
I found an old tape of the tour from 2008 featuring Kong just before the fire. Have uploaded it to my channel for everyone’s enjoyment 🦍

jeffhaddox2239 Yeah the older version of the tour back in the late 60' to the late 80's was the best IMO.
