20 years later, this game is still brilliant, it's almost like an accelerated simulation of a certain phase of our civilization. The nostalgia hits hard with this one
This game looked absolutely incredible for its time. The unit animations were smoother than any strategy game I had seen at that time, and I liked how there was some realism in the animations, such as units would emerge from the actual entrance of a building than just appearing outside it. And the building destruction also felt more realistic, with siege or gunpowder being a requirement for actually destroying something.
nah you can easily beat them. You need a big mass of army. They send there troops one by one. I can beat all 1v7 very hard. You rush down 3-4 in the beggining, and you stay with a 1v3 1v4 lategame. Its easy.
My first PC game was the demo of Cossacks. My father didn't allow me to use right click on the mouse because it was "too dangerous" so I would play until my peasants starved and still had so much fun. Then I finally got my own PC and bought the full game immediately. The soundtrack of this game and American Conquest are still stuck in my head. Absolute masterpieces!
I played this game years ago but its easy to know/guess where the opponents are by paying 500 gold in academy o reveal the location of mines on the map. The players are there where the most mines are concentrated.
Oh wow this was my favorite RTS back in the day. I feel like it was inspired by age of empires with some of similarities. I have so many good memories of this game back in 2002, having my friend come over and we'd play this for hours.
Hehe, brings back childhood memories. Back in the 00s my whole family (I mean uncles, cousins and all) were playing this on old chunky laptops, and they were all playing as Turkey. Weird thing is they usually played 1v6 against very hard bots and employed a boom tactic. Ofc they had to make heavy use of the diplomatic center. I recall they spammed horse archers against towers and dragoon mercenaries against everything else. At some point I found out how to swap the game's audio files with my recordings. Well, let's say swapping the original gun sounds with ones I made with my mouth didn't make it much better.
I think Cossacks was best strategy game. Most of guy was playing Age Of Empires when i addicted to play Cossacks. It was much more realistic and sophistic. But i could not understand that how does work trade market.
Market is simple. Every res has a value in the start. And every purchase changes this value. If you sell wood the value of wood goes up. You can scam the system. If you sell 10 stone to gold a lot of times, it brings the golds value up. Then buy stone with gold. You will get much more stone then if you skipp the first part. (the only risk is if some one see this, they can buy stone them self) You can't gain infinite value, you still lose some, but you get much more out of it. The market works on a global scale. So if a player buy stone the stone value go up for everyone. Thats why so important to rush market in the early game to be the first on the map, and exchange your resources before anybody else. In cossacks if you want to play well your most important building is the market. Most usuall trades: -early game (sell coal, iron, gold - to buy food wood stone to boom faster [there are exact strategies for this]) - buying gold to bring out a large number of Dragoons which are the most OP units in the game (in cossacks3 they got nerfed big time) - buy coal to rush the +300% stone upgrade which is the most OP tech in the game, after this you can buy anywhing with stone -buy coal and iron , when lot of units shooting, constantly. I really think it was the best strategy game at the time. It was revolutaniary. Its a shame it wasnt more popular. (i guess no american market) For me only BFME2 is close to this. I tried AoE2 DE few days ago but its too much for me.
