I can't believe it, I finally found my perfect switch. For the longest time, I was between thocky and silent switches and this one does both. Also, I love shorter travel distances and was just looking at ways to shorten the post-actuation travel. Again, this switch does it for me. This is insane. Thanks for the video!
I have them both in a sample pack setup in a 3d printed rig and clear keycaps. The U4tx has a more satisfying tactile feedback than the u4t weirdly. It's more pronounced. The U4 is even more pronounced than the other 2 versions. For me I appreciate noticeable and satisfying tactile feedback. I gravitate towards the highest tactilility of all switches available, with examples being Neapolitan, anubis, etc. I wasn't impressed by the tactile bump of the boba u4t surprisingly, it was ok though. The boba U4 on the other hand is my favorite of all of them, but the sound profile is lacking, which is perfect if I wanted a silent, but not for this specific build I'm doing. So I'm thinking of getting a full set of. I can confirm that the u4tx and u4 are very nice, some of the best I've tested out.
I find this “hybrid-silent” concept interesting. It seems like the purest(?) form of audible feedback from a keyboard - a sound around the time of actuation but otherwise silent. Are they loud on the downstroke?
I wanna add on with my experience, there is actually just enough pre travel after the bump where the stem doesn't bottom out completely creating no sound, I only noticed this when I typing very quickly but you wouldn't normally experience this in normal typing. So as a word of caution I wouldn't recommend this for anyone that has trouble bottoming out consistently and I also wanna emphasize as said in the video the stem wobble or lack of is really impressive especially since gazzew does not recommend filming these.
Got my U4Tx (with the non-PC top) last week. Find many of them to come over-lubbed on the springs to the point it was sticky, so I ended up un-lubing all of them, which makes it far more snappy and to my liking.
Interesting switch. I needed a quiet but not silent switch to tone down my super loud Monsgeek MG108W and these did the job admirably. I would even take this to work. I do wish the spring were a bit lighter as I do have to type with intent to bottom out the switch and achieve the "thock". If I hit a key softly like I do with non-alphabet keys, I usually don't bottom out the switch then it is completely silent. It would be interesting to see this half thock concept in a light linear switch.
Thanks for the review. I think the conclusion is clear for me: skip U4Tx because I want tactile switch with dampener for both the downstroke and upstroke.
@@IronCan88 I'd love to see U4 switches with two contact points instead of having to rely on one contact point + debounce algorithm. However, that would require one extra pin from switch to the keyboard and isn't going to happen anytime soon.
@@MikkoRantalainen I was ready to order some u4tx thinking it will have clean sound (sound of typing, minus upstroke) but read some inconsistency comments since the sound loudness will depend on angle and actual typing force, so hesistant (weak pinkies :)) I current have u4t and u4, both I love and each serves it's purpose.
This is the Switch of my dream .. I love a deep downstroke and I really hate the upstroke ... and this is the only switch that offers the dampened upstroke sound , this also solved the most annoying loud spacebar upstroke ..... I used this switch on my ROG Azoth and damn .. it is really REALLY satisfying .. love the sound profile too
Very nice sound concept, it appears to be best of both world scenario , the tactile and slight sound during keypress, and silent on the key leave I was thinking of durock shrimps but will check the U4Tx too, Gazzew Is not easily available in India it seems
I have these but the feeling is very inconsistent for some reason, especially when you hit the keys at an angle. My stabilised keys also feel very weird when paired with TX stabilisers.
My brain trips out with only half the expected sound

So if you have trouble bottoming out, might as well go with the U4T?

I like the idea of hybrid switches. Might have to pick up some of these! 👌🏼

The Boba U4s already exist
@@carlbo Indeed. I hope U4x is released one day as an improved version of U4, too.
@@MikkoRantalainenwhat do you hope to improve from u4?

Thanks, Excellent review.
a comparison with the jwick semi-silent would be great! though that one is linear...

I'd get them from taobao since they more options & cheaper. Takes awhile to be delivered though.
I feel sad that boba u4t has been phased out.
What is all that hype with box type switches ?
Better tolerances
And dust proof
what were those blue on white keycaps? Ik they are gmk but I don't remember the name
Eh, I like the original u4t. I don't like silent switches at all
Had to order some...
Semi-silent? Medium-loud? LOL
Semi as in only on down-stroke will it make a sound: not on the up-stroke.
