01/04/2018 This is the most incredibly moving song. I have been married to my first love for nearly thirty years. She is the most loving, compassionate, and strongest woman I've ever known and I admire her above all others. Together as one we have weathered the extreme difficulties that life has presented to us, as well as the joyous birth of our child, who is an adult woman now in her own right. This song reminds me just how much I love her, and how devastatingly difficult it will be when one of us leaves this realm. I feel so fortunate to have been freely and unconditionally favored with her love for so long and I look forward to our future together, as one.
27/4/90 - had my near-death motorcycle accident here in New Zealand aged 26. I ultimately lost my entire left leg at the hip and left side of my pelvis was amputated too. Term is trauma 'hemipelvectomy'. Suffered other serious internal injuries as well. Short story is I survived. An Intensive Care Unit nurse who did a case study on me at the time attended the hemipelvectomy operation in the hospital theater and commented afterwards; 'I never knew the human body could take so much trauma and live to talk about it'. My accident was covered by local newspaper media intensely as I was a well known athlete [road cyclist, triathlete, and marathon runner. I was in hospital for 101 days. Took me years of rehab. Ever since I have suffered chronic nerve pain around the 'stump' area even though there is no stump. It is managed by a cocktail of meds, acupuncture, and exercise. Married in 2005 to the most loyal person who just happens to be a woman, I have ever met in my life. Our love and respect for each other will never die. This song from Black Sabbath is one of very few that hits my heart in the core that leads to shivers up my spine, and ultimately tears in my eyes. So thank you Black Sabbath and Ozzy Ozbourne [love you so much] I so appreciate such a powerful song that best captures the split second I lost control of my motorcycle at high speed and fell from grace. Life is not about how we fall. It is however about how we get up from laying in the gutter and returning to standing upright once again...and getting back on what we fell off. And in my instance well it may not be a motorcycle again, it is my prosthesis that defines who and what I am. It is a miracle I am able to wear and use it.
TRES Heavy
