wow hornby you’ve done an outstanding job ounce again and will there be a cheaper railroad one?
they've done those too
I am an LMS lover to a certain extent. I don't have a Black 5 model in my collection. But I do have 0-6-0 3 and 4F Tender Engines, one of each to make two. They are LMS engines like the Black 5. You forgot to mention the Black 5 is Jack of all Trades. Its livery could be known as Ace of Spades Black. In the past, after weekend days on the SVR, I'd return home as black as the Ace of Spades with soot from head to foot. That's how much I love steam engines, no matter what kind they are. However, I still love GWR engines, like my beloved Foxcote Manor, best of all. For me, GWR engines come top of the heap.
The 3F and 4F 0-6-0's were, strictly speaking, Midland Railway designs of Johnson and Fowler lineage dating back to the late Nineteenth Century. The Black Five was a 1930s LMS design. In their BR service days I heard them referred to by many names including 'Mickeys' (no idea, don't ask!) but never Ace of Spades nor with reference to their livery either. I recall seeing 7022 Foxcote Manor in August 1963 on the Cambrian line between Portmadoc and Criccieth resplendent in lined out green . 7022, along with several other Manors had been given a make over for Royal Train duties for the visit of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh to the area.
I'm a huge lms fan and need to get one at some point.
mine derailed, rods fell off and bent , had to do alot of work straight out of the box
any idea when black five graham farish with sound is due ?
Hi Anthony, I'm afraid we're not currently able to stock Graham Farish items.
How much is it so I can decide if I can buy it or not
Hi Luke, R3616 (5089 in LMS black) is currently available on our site for £153. We do also offer a variety of pre-owned variations featured in the video. The full range can be found at: bit.ly/2U3LMCe
A strong contender for Britain's best ever steam locomotive....
Not a bad shout. But the A4 will definitely top that list
It’s Henry
Where’s henry
I have over twenty of hornbys Black five, its a good runner and when it first came out good value, but times have moved on as have prices plus much improved models, the only thing changed on this model is the price,it has no detail pack to speak of, all mine have been improved by using the royal scot detail pack which has proper brake rigging cylinder drain cocks, screw couplings, much better vac pipes,a point i have mentioned to Hornby but they never listen. No the model is well overdue for a makeover has the coro and princess, has it stands against other hornby models, its way over priced for what it offers, sorry but thats the truth!
