What is your real name?
Where was this video when I was in elementary school? Could’ve impressed everyone on the playground 😂
An easier plane would’ve done the job, I don’t think an elementary school kid would have enough precision
@@apacheattackhelicopter5823 Yeah, elementary kids usually don't have this level of precision.
@@adrienneislost1320 idk man, some of my schools mates were making some pretty impressive paper airplanes back in primary school :D and they worked!
This is boring and wiered
There were plenty of books on paper planes at the library you could have accessed... or you could have asked around at local hobby shops.. sounds to me like you are just lazy and making excuses for your childhood shortcomings
The amount of effort for such a simple thing, who would have thought
What's not mentioned until the end is that he won the world record flying distance with this plane he's making. So the 40 minutes might be worth it here.
Didn't you read the title?
@@documax123 sorry I realise what you wanted to say
@@Roknok no problem. And I will delete my comment/question back to you.
@@documax123 thank you 🙂
Well it's only 37:09 not 40 minutes so you are fired
He looks like the one teacher that everyone want's.
I just saw his face for the first time and thought, is he a teacher?
No he is the The paper airplane guy
true
True
He's like the Bob Ross of Paper Airplanes
I know right exactly
nope , no accident allowed here
finally found the perfect video for today's 2am videos i didn't know why im watching
2:21 Rn lol
Im watching it at 12:20 lol
I started making the first airplanes when I was 7 years old, we called them doves. And for 10 years I saw in a magazine how to make a biplane out of paper. It turned out great. I began to come up with my own options. After then the whole yard was launching airplanes. It was so much fun. Now, 40 years later, I was surprised that people in our computer age continue to build paper airplanes. Now I also use a computer to teach other people how to build model airplanes.
Good for you kiddo
@@jdouce6074 bruh check out the channel
@@jdouce6074 bro he is everything except a kiddo
Fifty year old kiddo xD
I have no intention of making this paper airplane... still watching the entire video
Same
me too
Ikr
I did and let me tell you, It flew around my house. Out of all my 2 years of Origami making, I have never seen such a good paper airplane.
This would be a really cool project in design/engineering classes
one word, grave
@@bmn let ppl live
haha, whats why im here!
I’m here because of engineering ha
@@bmn f u
I like how he was already improvising before he even started building it
Heartwarming how he laughs about the broken red clip. :)
*I'm smiling soo much sitting here drinking a cup of coffee,*
*folding a piece of paper, and making a paper airplane. 😍*
Me to but I'm drinking tea
*Cheers! ☕😊*

Y'all cringe
grandma approved
You must be really bored
@@ajcruzer92 Well obviously I'm bored :)
@@grandmaashley lmao 😂
i have asked once and i shall ask again
*where are grandpa frankey’s ashes*
Thanks for your approval grandma. I always thought you were disappointed but glad I was wrong.
Half hour for making a paper plane..!! That's how a retired life should be 😂
Well that half an hour he use to make this little plane resulted in him getting a world record, so it's definitely worthwhile.
Fun fact, the ratio of the sides of an A4 sheet of paper (in fact all A* sizes) is 1:√2. Fold a short edge down to a long edge, the hypotenuse (the length of the crease) is same length as a long edge (which can be checked by folding the crease down to the long edge.
I don't understand
I am living for the airplane tie. I definitely want to add one to my wardrobe
He seems like he can do really high quality tutorials.
But so large the video
I'd be surprised if he did a good tutorial on anything other than paper planes though...
He's BACK! This guy has an amazing ability to teach! 👋👋👋👋🛩✈🛫🛬 ....we need a PAPER airplane emoji! 😁 Thank you for producing these!
💸
I like how he takes off his glasses every 10 seconds 😂
I like how even on the world record paper plane he wrote 1/2/2011 and crossed out the one for a two. I feel better about doing that every year now.
The best grandpa ever.
Super interesting! I'm going to set this up to keep my nephews busy, out of trouble when I watch them.
Also your tie. It's really cool.
His Holiday present wrappings must also be spectacular. Of course, he has to start in September....
Love the tie, too!
2:04 quote: as long as you've got a chunk, you might as well use both sides of it ☺
This guy is amazing !
John is such a nice guy. :)
His TIE though!!!
He aint messing around 😂😂
So satisfying to watch!!
Love the neck tie.
This whole video is over kill lol. I love it!
i love this guy he is the best paper airplane expert ever in the world
absolutly not
Its 2am and im watching dis...but i dont care.,this is amazing 🥺
Thank you for finally releasing the Breaking Bad alternate series finale.
Way better than lumberjack Dexter.
I just watched this whole thing smh I don’t regret it
This is all SO wonderful. I have one question, please: Is the application of tape on the paper plane accepted by Guinness? It doesn't have to be 100% pure paper, with nothing added? I was under the impression that using tape is not allowed. Thank you very much for bringing us this video. Best wishes.
I found the answer to my own question on another of Mr. Collins' RUclips videos. The answer is YES. One, very small piece of tape, of specific dimensions, is allowed by Guinness. Mr. Collins cuts this piece into several thin strips which are used to help anchor some of the folds for the "Suzanne" plane. He is a brilliant paper folder and paper plane designer. He is also one fantastic teacher and a pleasure to see and listen to.
I wish you you would do a aero dynamics tutorial on high speed boats
I really need this video. I suck at making paper airplanes!
Love your tie!!
This guy is a LEGEND :D
I would just put a paperclip on the front of mine when I was in middle school. They flew so far!
lol, too bad they dont allow anything but paper and tape
I think you know me, but I’m a paper plane kid, your signature of my book for Christmas last year
Wow John Collins has kept the world record paper plane with himself👍🏼
All school should definitely teach this!
Going use it to poke an eye out
I made it it flies so well good job
the alternatives for ALL of the materials except 2 are-
1.2 15mm ice-cream sticks glued together for crease folder
2. use your normal scissors and sharpen it with aluminum foil
3. normal cello tape
4. measure 30mm on an mm scale
5. the clip like john said
6. an added bonus for beginners a pencil/marker
Excellent. Just made one with A4 paper in UK and wow it fly straight and long distances. Will upload a video in my channel soon.
Just use a thin paper & you don't have to be too precise with the tape. Just take small piece of tape and attach on the loose ends. That's all
this plane is sooo good it flies smoothly but it got stuck on the roof
It would seem that there is nothing difficult to make the airplane, but it is the same whole art.

The moment you are waiting for
You are so talented!
The other paper planes could also improve drag with a bit of tape and better lines.
hi john!! can you make a tutorial for the stinger paper airplane??? thanks!!!!!
This is the most efficient way to conserve tape
Thanks wired I want this
Thx it worked out SOO GOOD!
That is pretty cool
this video is so interesting and wholesome 😄😄
Ain't that one Swelling video. This is Excellent video

Who is disappointed to not see it fly?
He flew it at the end
Best grandpa every 👑
yall just doing *everything* during quarantine, literally😂
I cannot believe how very interesting I found that video to be. Thank you. 67 year old woman
I just randomly searched this up and it was posted yesterday
I would try to make really awesome paper planes when I was a kid using these same methods, I used fancy kinds of paper and different kinds of tape and all I ever ended up achieving was making a really bad paper plane
Legend
This is the best
Just wondering...is there a certain type of paper that works the best for paper planes?...TY!!!
Paper airplane? Tape-r airplane.
Chiding aside, this was fascinating.
Still shocks my inner child that there are a ton of different designs for a simple paper airplane
Finally know how to do it correctly
Why so small pieces of tape? Is it so heavy? Is there some regulation?
Guinness rules specify a 25x30mm piece of tape can be used. The tape can be cut into as many pieces as you like.
@@ThePaperAirplaneGuy : Thanks for the info! I was trying to find the GWR rules and never found them. I still think tape shouldn't be allowed.
13:57 rip
get this man a world record for the longest paper plane making tutorial 😂😂
I wish this was my teacher for science.
I feel like I have seen this video before
they did another vid where he shows it in less detail
Thought this was Brian Cranston for a few moments.
Will have to try this out.
I was looking for this comment. Definitely Brian Cranston vibes.
Awesome vide this deserve a like
Which sheet was best a4 sheet or color sheet and tell the size of color sheet
Will u please make a tutorial of THE PLANE!
Surely there must be some kind of kapton/kevlar/carbon super tape that is microns thin and super strong/sticky - put on with a microscope that would save a few nanograms of weight and be a better "world record" paper airplane....
What's the magic of this tape? I can't see even duct tape glue resisting the stress after a dozen flights.
Just spent 37 minutes watching a man make a paper airplane and I don’t regret it
Dam my dude exact with the lines
this was made on my BIRTHDAY YAYAYAYYAYA
If you have an objection to bone AND plastic, you could probably find a ceramic creasing tool.
I’ll see you guys in a few months when everyone is recommended this.
Yes.
Yes.
I have been summoned B)
the record could easily be beaten if the plane is made using technology instead of hands. it's just that throwing paper airplanes for world record in distance is literally so niche that nobody would waste their resources on it.
John Collins I am a fan of aeroplanes
Been flying dhis since I can remember, long dis and windy.
Nice
Cool
Lockdown Fun...
Thank you for sharing your talent great video. I wonder paper is better than product ! Degradable, friendly digestible, culturally, traditional nicely done, till then keep smiling with lol politely & safely paper please
Yes
My best throw shatters the world record with a plane that is somewhat similar to this design. no glue or anything. I will try this plane though.
him putting his finger on the blade terrifies me
the beauty of working on a printing press.... all kinds of paper weight lol
